No consideration at all to acquiring a franchise player? You have no idea what Fantilli will be and Terry and company aren’t all that bad to give up. Zegras and the young guns need a proven star to build.
I get your concern though. All fun.

Freeing up this cap space is gonna be important, or else it’s goodbye to Nylander or Marner or Matthews.

That’s the point of the trade. 1 year of Murray isn’t so bad to get cheap players that can play.

Leafs aren’t in cap trouble. If Sabres or any team wants to add cheap depth with reliable experienced players, this isn’t so bad.

Brodie deal is awful. Same with the Jarnkrok deal.
Could get more value for Samsonov.
Vlader deal is interesting. Not sure how CGY values him though.</div></div>
Because it beats a buyout or trading the 28th pick like everyone on here seems to think is what Treliving needs to do lol

Its not timmins thats the "trigger", its the constant leaf posts having a roster clear out of marginal value commodities for actual value.
I dont think timmins has good value, but some. I dont think Abrueze has good value, but some. I don;t think Samsonov's rights have muych value, but some (especially if the leafs cant dump or buy out Murray, because everyone knows they cant re-sign Samsonov), Ovichnikov since he didnt like NA and went back to Russia has really no value,
but some Leaf posters put some of these guys in QUANTITY in almost every ACGM, like they're just having a clean out. And in every trade they acquire the more valuable piece because they are offering that quantity.
(And then go out of their weay to sign/re-signa bunch of marginal players that will never make an NHL impact: Hollowell, Zohorna, etc...I mean why? Theyre not prospects anymore and chances are they'll never even get a callup, since you signed a dozen better options)</div></div>

Kallgren is a free agent, and I forgot to trade Samsonov’s rights in this scenario

He gets traded at the draft? With a verbal agreement to an extension July 1? Who knows what will happen. Not like the Yotes are a well run organization, they very well could try to get the hometown kid to try and salvage the franchise.

New look
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Right now, only Quinton Byfield counts against the Kings' main roster cap total, so this trade would add $10 million in cap to a team that has no cap space after finishing out the roster now (i.e., BEFORE any Marner trade). As a result, any Marner trade is mathematically impossible, never mind any considerations of whether Los Angeles would be willing to trade three core members of its future for two years of Marner or that this kind of exchange constitutes a reversal of the philosophies on which the teams have been built.
It always amuses me that having conducted this experiment since 2016 and seen the unequivocal results, Toronto fans now want to exchange a big-ticket star on an expiring contract for three or four future stars with an equivalent aggregate cap hit (which this numerically foolish trade doesn't even accomplish) and expect the other team to accept the transfer of future to now. Do you really think that Los Angeles would be interested in a trade which leaves the Kings nothing in two seasons, just when Byfield, Vilardi and Clarke are maturing into high-quality players?!?!?</div></div>
They’re good, but Marner is a star. The guys in return aren’t, and likely won’t be on his level. You’re right about the cap considerations though. Leafs would have to take on Doughty or Danault or something.

Why do Toronto fans think they can just drop their overpriced players on teams that don't need them or have the cap space. Let alone get the teams 3 top prospects. This is just laughable. I'd rather have all 3 of those guys at way less of a contract than Marner has. Toronto fans are going to be very mad when they don't get close to a package like they keep putting on here lol
P.s. sorry for the sane Leaf fans that have to deal with the crazy ones on a daily basis</div></div>
Lol. This is a fantasy website pal. You wish you had a playmaker like Marner. Hope you’re feeling better after your rant!
