Realistic Offseason June 21st
As far as trade value wise, it seems the common theme is Marino, Kapanen and a 1st round pick just for Miller. So to get VAN to retain money on top of that you would have to offer even more.
As far as contracts go I think they look good. Malkin might be a slight underpayment but you've got the cap space plus you can dump Domingue

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>I like this team I just dont know how it all fits together...
So you bring in Bear? Love it. But you keep Marino? You only bring in Bear if you dish Marino...
Also. Look at how expensive that blue line is...
The pens had massive issues with SCORING in their second half of the season especially from their bottom 6. So your soliution is to bring in a guy who had 4 points and ZERO goals with the Flames and then inject him into the top 6? I like Jarnkrok too but like... I dont really know if thats the solution. Take the money you gave Bear and Jarnkrok and use it to bring in a better 2nd Line LW who can actually score...
Then there is issues with your AAVs on some people. I dont think Rodrigues comes back that cheap (although I do agree thats what hes worth). Then you overpay for Desmith too...
I dont mind the AAVs on Geno or letang those are fine
I dont even hate this team it just fits weirdly. Look at the Pens last year. Expensive but capable blue line. No depth scoring. So your plan is to further dig the blueline into a hole (financially), and then weaken the scoring? Idk...</div></div>
We already have 3 capable wingers that can score, Guentzel, Rust and the newest and welcome addition, Rakell.
E-Rod, Heinen, Jarnkrok can slot in on any line. Jarnkrok, IMO, is somewhat of an upgrade over Zucker. He’s a combination of both Tanev and ZAR. I feel like he’d fit perfectly with the Pens.
I was also thinking of not signing Letang in favour of Lyubushkin, who’d be much cheaper. Marino, Bear, and Lyubushkin as the righty’s. But the D looks solid as is, last minute choice things lol

Mystery teams
What you've ignored in evaluating your own trade proposals are the needs and limitations of the acquiring teams.
Neither TOR nor EDM are in a position to a.) take on cap and b.) trade prospects like Niemela or Holloway in order to add another 7+ mil scoring winger- or to acquire another scoring winger at all, for that matter.
WAS also would be cap-****ed by such a move but might be able to be convinced of a deal like that if they want to double-down on their current core. However, I don't think they'd want to lose Lapierre to do that. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
As for CAR, while a case MIGHT be able to be made for Necas and a 2nd for Fiala, I don't think you'd be able to get the 1st. However, that team seems to value two-way players enough that their valuation of Necas may be higher and their valuation of Fiala may be lower.
Lastly, I'm 100% confident there's no chance that PHI trades their 1st going into the Bedard draft year after the season they just had. Maybe Brink and a 1st in the 15-25 range could be reasonable.
This lack of consideration for the other team is why your trades aren't received well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>I know Pitlick had a good year but idk if he's worth a 2nd just yet. If he repeats this year and does it again absolutely he is, but I just dont know how teams value his one good year so far. If he was signed to term he'd be a steal but the fact his contract is up raises questions too, especially for the pens who are super tight on cap</div></div>
I could see him having a similar path to Hagel. In their first full NHL season, Pitlick had .56 PPG while Hagel had .44PPG, although Pitlick was 2 years older.
In his second season, Hagel had 21 goals before trade deadline and was traded for 2 first round picks. The fact that he had 2 more years left at 1.5M helped alot.
If MTL signs Pitlick for cheap, and play him with Suzuki and Caufield, i could see him have 21 goals by 2023 trade deadline and traded for 2 first rounders just like Hagel.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>That makes sense I suppose. You see Domi as basically a swiss army knife guy. I guess then the question becomes does Domi take a 4x4 to stay in a place where he cant be a solidified top 6 guy. I dont know the answer to that question...
I'm glad to hear Bear has been solid with then Canes. I like him a ton. I would love to see my Pens trade for him but like you guys, assuming we keep Letang and Marino, where does he go?</div></div>
Domi's loving it. You can see how different he's been since the trade. He's estatic and he's just so grateful and I'd assume if the Canes offered him that kind of deal, he'd take it. He's get powerplay time and would be on a championship contender.
Bear could end up anywhere, but if it's for picks, it'll be a higher price than something like this where he's taking a genuine top six forward back to Carolina.

He's still a decent dman and brings an element the Pens could use. He's fine as a 2nd RHD. $3 to $4M for one year would be fair IMO.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>I agree on Kessel and Klingberg. You and I agree on what Klingberg is worth, and what the market for him is, the difference is, I wouldn't be willing to pay market price for him, you would. I just feel like you could get someone similar for less, and then you could use the extra cap to spend elsewhere. Hell. I'd even be willing to trade for Ethan bear and then use the cap to go after ANOTHER scoring winger. Cause you can never have too many of those with how the Pens depth scoring was last year...</div></div>
If the Pens are able to keep Letang then none of this is necessary. If they move Marino then I'd look to replace him with someone like Subban for a year or two who will probably cost about the same. Another player I've used in a few trades is Murphy from CHI. Big physical forward who's excellent defensively.

Yes I understand why his value is low because of his major injury concerns, but he's still a quality middle 6 winger who can kill, hits, and can score. WHEN HEALTHY. I realize that's a big what if for Zucker and that tanks his value. Plus. His deal has 1 year left. That is huge. If he had 2 or 3 left I'd say no shot you can get anything for him, but a team that has the money to spend could easily take on 5.5 for just one year. I think he's worth a 5th at least...</div></div>
I agree, but if this is the best they got for him I still think it makes sense for the pens to take it. May be the different between us resigning rakell or not

Idk why some guy said in the comments that Geno would decline. No he wouldn't? He's reportedly only asking for 6.5-7.0 right now. 3x6.5 is what I think it will settle on IRL.
Overall I like the team, I just think some of the contracts are close but not quite, and then your value for Marino is way off.</div></div>
I think he would take 7+, reason why I said he declines was because I thought they had offered him or he asked for 7.5 after the 5m lowball. He's also paying Letang 8. I suspect Malkin comes to within 500k under Letang. Maybe he does take the Crosby deal at 7.1 though.

JT Miller retained is disgustingly good dont get me wrong, Marino Kap and a 1st is a steep price to pay espeically when you consider you are adding in Tyler Meyers. I think you missed the idea on Meyers. It will cost you MORE to give up Meyers. You'd have to pay us assets to take him, even with retained money.
This trade would be more even if you took Meyers out entirely, and even then, it would still be overpriced for Miller, as good as he is.</div></div>
I see so many Canuck fans talking up that Myers has bounced back and I'd valuable, but then they also are trying to turn around and trade him because they know he will turn into a pumpkin again, otherwise why trade the defenseman you talk up?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>Totally agree. Letang does want a raise, I just have a gut feeling we could snag him for above his 7.25 AAV but below 8.25, especially if we re-sign Geno first, Rust is back, he sees all the guys coming back on good deals and then re-signs. I mean, I wouldnt even hate paying 8.5 for him. Without him that D core is horrible, and the RHD market is extremely thin this year after him so.
The more I look into Valeri I def agree the price is more affordable. I think 5.5 is fine It was just the 7 years that scared me a tiny bit, but I mean, when you have Sid and Geno and Letang on the back end of their careers, you can extend offers with terms past them, in order to get slightly better cap hits. Its not like it'll matter by that point anyway, right?</div></div>
Absolutely. Rusty took below market value for more term, but in 3-4 years the big 3 are gone. We'll have plenty of cap space, not be contenders and who cares then if a couple of guys aren't quite worth their cap hits for a year or two. It's all about the next 3 years with Sid and building the best team we can.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jukesy</b></div><div>Pretty reasonable on all fronts. Good terms and AAVs, good trade values. I do question Letang though, now that Rust has confirmed been signed and its clear he took a paycut, and with what we already know about Geno wanting to take a pay cut, I wonder if Letang wont take less now too. Kinda a trickle down effect when you see all your teammates taking less. Im not saying he'll take less than his previous 7.25 AAV, I think its clear he wants to make more, but I have a feeling if the Pens offered im 7.75 to 8.0 flat for the term he wants, he'd take it.
I also saw a report that he's asking for 8+ on the open market but 7.5-8.0 from the Pens.
Overall though, even for the AAVs you picked, I think this is a very realistic team. I peg Geno at between 6.5 and 6.75 so your AAV is almost perfect IMO. I honestly dont know if Nichuskin is worth that money for that term. I'd like to think if we're locking him up for 7 years we'd be able to get him for a bit less, but honestly after last season he had its definitely realistic.
If we walked into next season with this roster I'd be very happy. Between DOC, Zohorna, Nylander, and Poulin, you'd need to find 1/4 of those guys to play at a 3rd line caliber, which is doable. We already know 2/4 of them can play that other spot on the 4th line.
Good roster.</div></div>

Rumor from a reliable source said Geno asked for 3 years/20 million. Letang wants a raise, has said in the past that he'd love to play in Montreal and is honestly irreplaceable so we have to give him what he wants to stay, even if it's a bit of an overpay. Nichushkin is a late bloomer, but he just turned 27, was nearly a PPG player his first year of getting top 6 minutes and he's a possession monster, power forward who has size, speed, hands, shot and showed he can play with elite players. Not many of those exist. Plus that would give Geno the best wingers he's ever had. I went 7 years because I think someone offers him even more at less term.
