I know it's a long shot but VAN needs another Top 6 winger and a Kuzmenko for Laine swap makes sense. That being said VAN would probably get Laine and then package him with something and flip for Nylander.

Kuzmenko ain't working with Tochett and unlike Galrand, Kuzmenko actually has value, this trade is basically 2 trades in one, Kuzmenko, Myers and a 2nd for Laine and then Podkolzin, Raty & a 1st for Johnson. All players involved in this trade need a change of scenery so it works out well.

VAN would NEVER do this trade, 1. The value is hilariously in Montreal's favor, Matheson isn't worth Lekkerimaki alone let alone a 1st and Garland on top of that, and 2. Matheson has a history with Pettersson, good luck getting EP40 to sign an extension if you sign the guy who literally threw him onto the ice and gave him a concussion.

I don't think TOR keeps him if the cap hit is over $10M, having half your cap in 4 players is not a good idea if you want to win a championship

While yes the Leafs are better than VAN was last season, contending teams sometimes still deal pending UFAs so they don't leave for nothing, if TOR can turn Nylander into a few depth rentals and some futures thats a win since even Bo said he wanted to stay but sometimes its just not possible

This scenario leaves VAN with $34M in Cap Space, trade Garland and there's another 5M. If you give EP40 $11.5M, Nylander $10M and Hronek $8M you still have $10M left to re-sign everyone else, Myers, Cole and Fabbro should be a combined $7M since Myers and Cole likely sign for cheaper in hopes of going on a cup run. that leaves us with around $3M to sign a backup goalie (assuming Silovs isn't ready) and sign some depth pieces. KKuzmenko is also expendable if VAN is that desperate for Cap Space too.
