The reason I have 2 1st is that the Leafs know if the Canes offer sheet, they get 4 1sts.

It would obviously need to include Pesce, so good on you for having him in there. I think it would need to include a 1st, and I would think the Leafs would want back their 2020 1st rounder. Then, I think the canes would need to include Nicholas Roy and Jake Bean.</div></div>
No what I was saying was either or. For the Canes if seriously interested, Pesce and a couple 1sts is way better than 4 1sts and Marner on a bigger than needed deal.

depends on term. 5 years, no way the Leafs match. 1-4 or 6-7 then yes. They cannot have 16 29 and 34 all expire the same year.

That's a lot to give up for Miller considering the healthy scratch and that Vegas is in cap trouble and has to move parts. Im confused on the Marner contract, is that something that is out there? Most trades look good to me. I would hope this isn't all the Leafs do.

Oilers and Sens logistics swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Considering that Ottawa is retaining on Ryan and taking on the horrendous Lucic buyout, a 3rd Round Pick, which is looking to be a late one at that, isn't much compensation when they could either a) keep playing Ryan, or b) just buy Ryan out.
If that was the 2019 2nd Round Pick, and/or there was a prospect involved, there's clearly much more incentive to make the move, but in either case, I don't know if Ottawa would want to be retaining. A pick and a prospect to free up a roster spot and still make the salary floor makes more sense to me.</div></div>
Ottawa wants out of the Ryan deal as much as Edmonton wants out of the Lucic deal. Ottawa would be doing a buyout either way so why not get a pick, even a 3rd, for it. The retaining part isnt an issue as they need to hit the floor. Buying out Lucic would amount to less money than a Ryan buyout, it's just a longer contract by 1 year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CzechingOut</b></div><div>So why dont the Sens just buyout Ryan?</div></div>
It is an option, but in this scenario they can both do that and get comp for helping Edmonton out of their Lucic situation.

forget the Laine thing. Larsson isnt good.He has a career high 24 points, has played one full season. Zaitsev is on the same trajectory and I can say hes not good either. Nylander is. Thats the point. and when Nylander gets back to form, his contract will look like a steal.

back to back 60pt seasons to start his career, misses a bunch of games from a holdout, slow to come back and all of a sudden hes worth Adam Larsson? I'm assuming you think Patrik Laine is worth Adam Larsson now too?

There's other ways to save money on this roster. Ahem Mr. Nylander, by trading him you're adding future, rather than giving any way like what will happen by moving Z. Rosen and Oz as the 3rd pair (about 2 million combine). No need in re-signing Lindholm either, let all the UFA's walk, just like last summer with JVR, Bozak and Komarov.</div></div>
People need to stop trading Nylander. Hes not a problem. If the Leafs were going to trade him, they wouldn't have waited until after he was signed. His contract will be pennies in a few years anyways when the cap is 90+ anyways. Zaitsev's contract is terrible, and his play is even worse. Lindholm is a quality 4th liner that will require little money and keep the forward group pretty much fully intact.

TSN and Sportsnet have both reported 85 as a projection. Rise in the revenue and the addition of Seattle with the $650 million buy in could lead to this number. They projected 82 before the expansion announcement and upped it to 85 after

Thats not correct. He said he could see why guys shy away from signing in Toronto because of pressure, but also said he would explore it if the Kings didn't work out for him. Saying that no way LA trades Doughty for Nylander straight up. Wingers are nowhere near as valuable as a top flight offensive right handed defenseman. Nylander plus a 1st and a prospect would likely get it done.

Kane Idea
Very few times in hockey where no matter what you receive in a trade, it still doesn't make sense. To me, Patrick Kane is an example. I know his cap hit and term are monstrous, but in terms of production, hes up there with 87. No way 87 ever gets traded, and I get the sense that's the case with Kane too. Hes so good at what he does, he is not replaceable and I feel trading him is a death wish for the franchise. As far as cap issues, they could easily trade a D man, and Kruger is all but guaranteed to be a Golden Knight. Having said that, what you provided here, in a fair value sense, would work but I think you need two 1st rounders to pull it off.

Drouin gone was it worth it?
Definitely worth it. Drouin and his agent are locker room cancers. Johnson wouldn't have been enough to get Sergachev and now Tampa gets the best D prospect available, all while avoiding a 5.5-6 mill/year deal with Drouin. Tampa wins this trade in the end I believe.

Leafs
The Gardiner trade doesnt make sense. We need another dman, not a new dman. I also dont think Trouba is a better option, more of a linear trade. Like the Niemi idea, not sure they will give away a 1st for it but wed gladly take it for a year of his salary and an upgrade in backup G.
