Leafs Next Year - Not So Realistic Fantasy

Still fantasying over a Muzzin trade.
That is horrible trade for the Leafs to obtain Gibson. Paying him 5m and giving up all those futures? Just sign a 5m goalie and keep the assets</div></div>
Thing is there isn't really that good of an option in net. The max I'd go for Campbell is $4M, and besides him the FA market is too thin. We could try to find a resurgence project/breakout candidate, but I think that would be too much of a risk.

Honestly that's what I thought. I was thinking of flipping the 2022 1st into like a 2nd and 3rd, which would I add? If not both?

Deal from the Leafs, MAYBE from the Devils, but they might feel that Holtz+ the 2 firsts have a better chance at being stars than ADB alone

Under the radar goalie options next year
Ideally it's Thompson, and we either get Campbell back or another guy as a 1A. Either way, having cheap goaltending with control would be key for this team, especially with the contracts that they have. I just think that either Vegas is not going to give away Thompson, or we have to overpay. I wouldn't mind giving away Sandin+ for Thompson and another good piece though.

Along with the cap going up, they are getting an extra $3.4M because of the Girardi, DeAngelo, and Shattenkirk buyouts ending

I just compared this with what I have been seeing with the Blues' fans. 4 years is obviously risky, but I think this is what we would have to pay.

Is Toronto interested in Niemalainen? I think the only way they trade him is to give more opportunity to play in the NHL, and honestly I think he'd get stuck in the AHL in Toronto. I could see them moving him to Arizona, or someone who kinda needs roster players.</div></div>
He's a big guy who is cheap and defensively minded. I think he gets into 20-30 games with this team, but if he isn't doing well, we make a trade and he becomes the 8th guy. As we have seen lately, injuries happen, so we need to be ready for that.

That's what I'm worried of. In the amount of games that Husso has played this year, I feel like this role would be perfect for both. Also, he plays calm enough to potentially work with this D-core. I'm still not comfortable making Campbell the #1 guy, especially because if he gets hurt, we will be in deep trouble. If one goalie is on a serious heater, then you can play them a bit more, but I think that this is best case-scenario.

Playoffs
Imo it's Spezza over Robertson, with Nylander making his way back to the second line. Both him and JT are heating up, so I think Keefe gives them a chance in the next 3-5 games. It can be either Kerfoot or Mikheyev on the second line, whoever is hot/has good chemistry I guess. 3rd line shutdown, 4th line Blackwell, Spezza, Engvall/Kerfoot (Kerfoot is only on the 4th if he is not on the second, if he is then it is Engvall.

Don't sign Subban, don't trade for Wilson, and use those assets in the Wilson deal and Kerfoot for Miller. Try to keep Nylander + Liljegrin if you can.

Leafs Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rgwhite17</b></div><div>I’m confused, muzzin comes back and is healthy. Plays decently but not up to last year. And then we have to attach a 50 point versatile player and 3rd round pick to him to move him?
Do you really think the front office views muzzin that way? They would just keep him for one more season instead of getting nothing for him. You’re even assuming he comes back and proves he can still play and this is the deal?</div></div>
The Leafs have no cap space. As much as I love Muzzin, he is injury prone, expensive, and has not done that well this season. Kerfoot is probably worth at least a 2nd, and Duszak has been a point/game player in the AHL. This is just to clear cap space, and since the Kraken don't seem to be competing next year, it is a low-risk high-reward deal for them.

It was announced that Sandin has a knee injury that may take weeks to heal. Probably just sending him down to provide cap relief

Honestly, it was really hard to find a suitor. With what they're doing with their goaltending at the moment, I think that they are just trying to stay somewhat competitive until Cossa comes up. Mrazek would be an upgrade over Greiss and he plays his best in a 1A/1B role.
