Finishing Touches
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goldeneye</b></div><div>Yup
I think GM's likely see him as a similar player as Namestnikov, and he only returned the Sens a 4th round pick last season. Add covid and how teams are likely to shy away from term and it gets pretty rough.
I could see a team like Buffalo make a call but i think you have to have more than one team interested if the Caps want to get something back, instead of giving him away for free, retaining or even adding a slight sweetener.
I see the Caps just signed TvR so maybe Jensen is gone instead?</div></div>
Yeah, I could see both Jensen and Panik being moved if they're not done signing guys.
There have been nibbles on Jensen from Toronto and Vancouver fans. There's mumbled interest in Panik from Buffalo and Ottawa. I think teams still want to see what they can get in terms of UFA superstars before making realistic depth moves.

Younger
I don't know about the specific returns on a few trades, but I like everything about this approach. I don't think Khudobin is leaving Dallas, I do think Kempny is leaving Washington, but keeping Carlson & Jensen and adding a strong two-way RD (Matt Dumba?) makes total sense to me. Love the idea of getting younger and faster. Contracts all seem reasonable. Domi does feel like a big gamble, I'm curious who else could fill the 2C role in a trade.
This is one of the best Caps blueprints I've seen on the site, even if the Deangelo slot is actually Deangelo or one of Dumba, Adam Larsson, Sami Vatanen, or maybe Demelo or Trevor van Riemsdyk.

FA Options
Tanev is a hard guy to nail down, AVV wise. I've seen anywhere from 1.75 to 3.5 million. I think your ballpark is about realistic.
I personally would love Tanev. He is one of the most tenacious forwards in the league and he has elite speed. A Hagelin-Eller-Tanev line may not score a lot, but it's going to terrorize people with that speed on the wings. Pretty nasty if you ask me.
You don't have to read between the lines much with GMBM. If he says he wants a two-way forward for the 3RW spot, he's going to aggressively pursue that. As a long as it doesn't turn nuts with bidding, Tanev is probably the guy.

Holtby to Ottawa Fair value
Holtby has a NTC. No chance he waives that for Ottawa. The Caps will keep Holtby for this season and go bargain bin shopping in FA or make a trade for a 2/3RW.

Is this Too Obvious
Alright, this trade in practice makes sense, but in value it doesn't in the slightest. You need to send Edmonton back either a top 50 pick or some decent prospect for them to even consider this. Keep in mind RNH has an extra year, and overall is the more valuable player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CharlieFoxtrot</b></div><div>So you give up the last year of Holtby so you can sign Sam Bennett and bunch of 4th liners?</div></div>
Rittich is a decent goalie whose save percentage and goals against were slightly better than Holtby. Bennett is a decent 3rd liner who is more consistent in both ends than Bura. I don't mind this trade myself. Use Rittich and see if Samsanov can see some time in Washington this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>Good job. These trades are perfect value wise.
Vancouver might not want to move picks yet... Goldobin for Bura flys well with most people.</div></div>
Apparently the ownership group has gotten impatient and wants to make the playoffs, and is okay with moving draft picks. I think Goldobin is a risk because he's been rumored to want to go back to Russia. At this point, I think it's picks or nothing for Bura, and the Caps take their chances in trying to sign him as a UFA after non-tendering him.

I think Hörnqvist at 5.3 million is a luxury penguins can't afford</div></div>
I got you. But if Pens is going to trade him, then let's get better assets than TvR as a rental. That'd be a terrible return for a useful player like Hornqvist.

Moving some bad deals
Pysyk for Russell is a near fair swap as is. No need to include a second. Add a low prospect or Hawkey - whom Edmonton is unlikely to sign at this point - and call it a day.
I doubt the Sens are giving up anything north of a 4th Round Pick for Gagner, and I think Tampa will see better offers, or offers that allow them to keep TJ.
Eberle is likely not making less than $5M this summer.

I Like it. I've liked Glendenning for bottom 6, PK for a while.
Connolly might cost more / look for more elsewhere but wont make or break team. I want Hags back.
Hathaway for 800,000 or Honka for 1 Mill to make the numbers work.

$50 dude had no clue who hintz was before the playoffs. Dsp has a great playoff last season and ended up in the ahl. ...I like the trade I think it helps out both teams.

Glad we both agree :). Carolina looks quite a bit scarier after this trade, and it make sense for the Leafs also. Leafs love Kap and Willie and you guys are high on all your pieces also, but it's a great hockey trade.

I really like what you have done. Keeping the guys we need, adding assets, etc. the only things I don't agree with are Vrana's contract, not keeping connolly and Burakovsky trade.
when it comes to v's contract, i think it is way too much. yes, he is good, and will get better. But as of now o think a 2-3 year bridge deal would be smarter. Plus you can use that 2 million to see if Connolly will stay for less.
as for the burakovsky trade, i am not totally against it, but i think it will come down to how he preforms the rest of the year and in the playoffs. So I am not totally against trading him, but if it is between trading Burkie, but keeping dowd and haglien, or keeping bura but losing haglien and dowd. I would go with the latter.

Realistic Offseason
I think Johnsson and Kapanen are somewhat underpaid for multi year deals.
I personally like Pesce but would not trade away Kadri for him. Kadri is just too good and such an amazing value. I think trading johnsson or (more likely) Kapanen for him is better. Have plenty of good rw, but lack LW so keep johnsson over Kapanen. Even though I like Kap as the much better player.
But I like the idea of using Ottawa’s injured guys to trade Zaitzev. Iff they’re not insured though. If Melnyk isn’t actually paying for the contracts, they have zero motivation to move them when could use them to hit the cap floor.

yea, not the best salary on the Dzingel price range... more in the 3.5M - 4M, Caps have Ilya Samsonov one of the top goalie prospects in the entire NHL, so i believe holts will be dealt before the expansion draft ( same issue PIT had with Fleury / Murray. I believe Nisky will get dealt this off season maybe not to Dallas but i have a feeling the price range will be a 2nd & 3rd round draft pick, buti understand what you are saying with the future assets in later years.

For C: thinking it could be Dallas, Vancouver, Edmonton, or Toronto. Niskanen is better than Hainsey still, and they need help on the right side.

100% disagree. He's playing the best hockey of his career and he WILL be compensated for it somewhere. Virtually all his goals are 5-on-5 and his pl lay in all 3 zones has gotten better. I hope he takes a discount and sticks with us, otherwise I could see a team give him $4+ million in the open market.
