Team is worse. D sucks. G will not replace K's goals. Team is soft, slow and one injury to Malkin or Cindy from missing the playoffs. Boston, Caps, Isles all tougher to play against in playoffs. This looks like Chicago two years ago. Top heavy and bad D.

Overpay for Djoos by $100,000 and Stephenson by $200,000. Rest looks good and resonable. Room left to sign Arberg, Pirri, Acarri, Hathaway or some other 4th line UFA

Faulk plays PP and PK big minute RD. Better D then Hamilton (who is a wussy) and has a gritty side. Pesce and Slavin not going anywhere. If not K man and Brown, maybe just Nylander for the same return?

Neither Clark or Leason are ready. Hershey is a wasteland for ready forwards. If not Acciari, we need some grit, with PK talent on the 4th line in the short term.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CharlieFoxtrot</b></div><div>So you give up the last year of Holtby so you can sign Sam Bennett and bunch of 4th liners?</div></div>
You miss the most important point. Holtby is going to be gone for nothing at the end of the year. Get Cap space, get younger, get tougher, get better team D, prepare for the future, rebuild the bottom 6, get something. Calgary is a team in need of a Cup winning goalie. IE, one of the few teams that will ante up anything for Holtby where he would resign.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Nylander is going nowhere.</div></div>
Where and how are you getting a couple ofRD's to make the Leafs a REAL Cup contender. Something has to go. Who, if not the grossly overpaid soft Nylander? Kadri, the only grit at center? Brown, more grit gone? Z, your only RD, other than the ancient pylon Hainsey? You can't spend that much on forwards and not pay the price on the backend. Pitt did but they had the best center of this generation and a hall of famer as the 2nd line center. In all due respect, Taveras and Matthews are not Crosby and Malkin. Morgan is not as good as Letang at his healthiest. Boston, Washington, St.L even TB would push the Leafs around like they have in the playoffs. Trade the dangler, get at least one quality RD and get tougher.

Blow Up
Defense still sucks. Rinerhart is no center. Johanson is fragile. Anders good pickup but I bet he resigns on the Island. And for all of this you lose one of the best centers in hockey, a hall of famer without getting any D back. This is a slow, not physical team that could miss the playoffs if Cindy goes down for any real time.

It seemed fair. NJ now loaded at Center, needs wings with potential and you got 3 third round picks. Caps get potential 2nd or 3rd line center and something for an enigma. What say the Calgary fans on the Holtby trade?

Nylander going for RD, Zaitsev and Brown for the same and to dump salary. Look for Vancouver, Carolina or AZ as destinations.

Bura is not a project. He just needs a chance. He lit it up with McDavid in juniors as his LW, he will do the same in the bigs. His problem has been injuries and Troz doesn't play young players. He has been passed by Vrana and sits behind OV and they added Hagelin for D purposes. Never got PP time and most often on 4th line. He just needs minutes and a good center. He has great speed, good hands and has become more responsible. PP is the project. The Oil has fvcked him up and he may never reach his potential. Both need new teams.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jjkhairaELTE99</b></div><div>They're going to hold out with poolparty. Holland will Let him play in europe so he can grow in value and then trade him for a better return. Its the tactic that Yzerman did with Drouin. Holding out will get a better return then what's being offered and Holland knows it.
Plus that gives the oilers time to show poolparty and his agent that this new regime can handle young players and pull a chia, mclellan. If he's sees there being a chance in the way the team is run he might even stay</div></div>
Not a bad idea but they also need to make McDavid happy. Getting a LW he is comfortable with and can skate is more important than maybe increasing PP's value at some future date.

Caps can do better. Burakovsky for Poolparty. Bura a better fit to play with McDavid because they meshed together as juniors. Johnson contract is hellhole. Nobody wants it. Bjustad is slow going on a team built for speed. Oilers trying to dump D's for forwards. None of this trade makes sense for EDM.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jspenc40</b></div><div>I think Djoos gets the same deal Bowey got (2x$1mil). And I doubt DSP comes back too. But I think the Caps should be the one getting an extra draft pick in that trade. Bura has actually put up some numbers in his NHL time. Even his "bad" years are still double digit goals and 25 points. Plus, he's got playoff experience and put up points in clutch moments.</div></div>
While I agree with most of what you say. Poolparty is cheaper, bigger, more physical, has a higher upside and more desirable given Bura's 3.2 price tag. Both GM's need to move the players in question for different reasons. As a Cap fan I'd be happy with a straight one for one but I bet the Oilers want more a former top 4 pick.

Also what is the verdict on signing Pirri? He has skills. Why can't he stick anywhere? Is he worth a gamble? Could he play on a third line with great two way forwards like Eller and Hagelin?

Agree too much. I was looking for others opinions. After watching BMGM for a few years, Poolparty is the kind of player and trade he likes (ie. Unfulfilled 1st round talent in need of a new team.). Oilers were interested in Burakovsky at the trade deadline probably because he and McDavid tore it up in juniors together. Trade with these two as the center piece makes a lot of sense. McDavid gets a speedy winger he has meshed with for a potential bust with immense talent who is cheaper. Who else or what else is included is the question for me. A young goalie who is maybe 4th in line with the Caps is fine. A second round pick seems an overpay unless something else is coming back.

Agree it is a lot but Vanacek is expendable with Samsonov needing to not share the crease in Hershey. Bura still has upside but not at 3mil plus. Poolparty has upside and is cheaper. Plus Swede's Backstrom and Hagelin are role models that could bring out Puljujarvi's talent.

Bura loves DC. Loves the team. His best friend is Wilson. He has stated over and over he wants to stay. Good chance he signs below market to stay if he gets the chance at playing top 9 and 2nd PP.

Good list except Gost and Brodin. They are LD's. Need to move Marleau and Nylander plus Brown and young assets to get at least one top 4 RD and clear cap space. Options abound, answers probably in the next 72 hours.

Why? seriously. Caps were the worst face-off team in the league. Glenndening one of the leagues best right handed face off men and excellent on PK. Tanev cheaper and faster than Connolly. Hathaway gritty 10 goal 4th liner. Love to keep Connolly but can't afford.
