Fiala idea
My issue is Craig Button ranked Wallstedt as the 6th best NHL-Affiliated prospect. For perspective, Button also has Holtz at 15th. I just don’t think there is any reason for the Wild to give up Wallstedt for the 2nd overall in this draft when they could potentially get #7 or #13 overall, (which is obviously a drop off but not as big of a drop as other drafts), without giving up their best or second best prospect. I also am apart of the crowd that would rather get 2 or 3 things for Fiala than trade Fiala and then some for #2 overall, so I could also be in the minority of Wild fans on this trade.

I would take Foote if that were the case (I am a Minnesota fan)
I wonder how much of Gibsons recent struggles are the inconsistency in front of him, his best years came with mid 20s Fowler, Lindholm, Manson, Vatanen. There was also guys like older Bieksa, young Shea Theodore, etc who none of were necessarily stars but were much more consistent players than what ANA has now. I think NJ is kind of at the beginning of that with their defense where they are about to hit a consistent stretch and I could see Gibson back up into the .915 range.

I don’t think he will get that much. I imagine Fiala gets 7.5m to 8m depending. As a wild fan, I would love for someone to give him an 8.5m offer sheet but if thats where the market values him I bet Minnesota gets way way way better trade offers

Depending on the protections on the 2023 1st, I would probably be most interested in Gritsyuk and Zetterlund, I would probably go with
2023 1st and Zetterlund if its top 3 protected
2023 1st, 2023 3rd and Zetterlund if its top 7 protected
2023 1st, 2023 2nd and Zetterlund if its top 12 or top 14 protected
Not sure how you feel about these but just an idea

He isn’t saying that the trade would be finalized before negotiating an extension for Fiala, he is saying the trade would be agreed on before those negotiations begin, and then if a contract is agreed upon the deal could be made official. If they can’t agree on a contract, then the deal isn’t made.

Absolutely, especially in a draft class where the top 100 picks are considered pretty valuable at this point. If he doesn’t get an offer in the 1,2,3 range, then the wild could resign him for 6.3m or less (which I highly doubt he wouldn’t get offer sheeted for more than that). I think if a team wants to make sure they get Fiala, they will definitely
Dish up to make sure they lock him up. If I was NJ, OTT, ANA, I would be hesitant to go the offer sheet route because of that unprotected factor and if things went horribly wrong during the season those picks could end up being way more valuable than what a trade offer would be

Yeah definitely right on Connor Brown, I meant it more so as that 3.6m cap space would probably need to be freed up to resign other guys given that taking on Fiala and Dumba would be 13-14m of their cap.

You ignored everything I just said above. If you trade Dumba and Kulikov or Dumba and Jost you have enough to sign Fiala and dress a complete team. And just because they may be willing to match an offersheet doesn’t mean they should have no interest in trading him to begin with, they would match it if they don’t view the offer as fair and they would prefer to keep Fiala and trade two or three of the previous names for draft capital or prospects

Fiala doesn’t have to be moved, they can resign him by moving Dumba or Jost and Kulikov, none of which are negative value players in their own right.

Agreed but an offer sheet isn’t a sure thing to get the player, other teams could outbid and the Wild could still match. They aren’t in a position where they can’t physically sign him because they can move Jost and Kulikov, they can move Dumba, etc so if a team really wants Fiala they aren’t going to take the risk that they don’t get him via offer sheet.

Rough Idea of Fiala Bids
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>I don’t really know. I don’t know much about the Wild’s prospects, but I don’t think Honka is available right now.</div></div>
Who would be available in terms of prospects? The Wild would likely want a RHD, RH forward, RW, or Goalie. Obviously they would still consider good prospects that don’t fit that mold. It seems like the Canes have a fairly deep prospect pool that isn’t necessarily stacked at the top but has a lot of guys with decent NHL potential down the list that could be expendable but also could bolster some of those spots that the Wild don’t have a ton of guys in the prospect pool.

Fair enough. That trade was definitely one that I think could be made even without Honka if there isn’t a major bidding war. What would it take to also get Honka?

I think its the idea that 6-10 teams may be willing to trade for him so odds are there will be at least 1 team that offers a top prospect, which would probably be the most enticing offer. I don’t think they are literally set on one of those 2 but its probably what would have to be included to compete with whatever the top offers will be.
