Negative. This is a terrible mistake and he's bound to make it every game from now on. MASS PANIC! Trade him for Jack Johnson quickly before he loses anymore trade value.

Benson, a 2nd and a 3rd? Trading our best defensive centre and our best defensive defenceman (who also plays fantastically with Chabot) is gonna hurt when we need defence, gotta give us someone worthwhile and not just picks

How to Drive McDavid Out of EDM Jurco and Kassian are top 6 wingers
It blows my mind as well, a lot of teams actually surprised me by not picking up some of the waived players (my Senators included). I can imagine a world where McDavid is flanked by Ho-Sang and Baertschi/Sprong. Unfortunately, it didn't happen - and Holland is this close to pulling a Chiarelli.
Their centre depth is outstanding (though I see one of Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins on the wing with McDavid), their defence is adequate and the goaltenders leave something to be desired but these two put up pretty okay numbers last season. The one issue they have is on the wings, specifically ones to keep up with McDavid or put the puck in the net for or pass to Draisaitl. Holland had a choice of a free young winger and decided "Nah". I doubt I'll ever understand why he didn't nab one of them.
(Edit: Also, the 'worst Top6 in the league'? Ottawa says 'Hello')

You forgot to add Duclair. Maybe that would be enough of a gross overpayment for Drouin.

Lol. I think Winnipeg keeps Connor if he'll take an 8x8 now that Laine's contract done. I see them picking up someone like Travis Hamonic in FA rather than trading for someone like Juulsen to fill their gap at RD if Byfuglien retires

Senators fans- What do u think
Personally, I'd prefer to keep DeMelo as Chabot's partner over Zaitsev as their numbers were quite good together on a really bad team. We already have a bit of a log jam with forwards like Batherson, L. Brown, Norris, Chlapik etc fighting for some middle and bottom 6 spots and Virtanen would just take away from them.
As a hockey trade though, I'd say it's fair value, though I'm still not sure Ottawa would take on another forward or that Vancouver should take on another defencemen as like Ottawa at forward, you already seem to have your defence sorted. Good trade though!

Not entirely sold that Connor Brown is worth that much, but I like the direction we're going. Oodles of high-end talent that can fill out the roster when some contracts are up

Rookie Tournament thoughts
Not a whole lot to say that you guys didn't cover, except maybe my surprise of Aspirot. Brannstrom was absolutely the star of the defence but I really liked Aspirot's game. He threw his body around quite a bit with Kelly and Kastelic, especially with the hit on Evans, and was pretty defensively sound from what I saw. It'll be hard for him to fit in with Ottawa, even in the future, having Chabot, Wolanin and Brannstrom (plus Lajoie if you want) on the left side but I can see him being a decent 7th D to fill out the bottom pairing when injuries rise up. Excited to see the boys play in the next game!

An outside look of OTT line-up - am I far off
I see Boedker and Ennis being scratched more over the season than L. Brown and Veronneau. I of course have my own 'favourite' lines that I think would mesh well together but with the state of the roster this is as good a guess as any except for, like the comment above, White is almost 100% the 1C and Wolanin is most definitely in the NHL.
Brannstrom likely gets the Chabot and Karlsson treatment of spending a dozen or so games in Belleville before (if he's playing well) being called up to likely play in the Top4 or take Hainsey's spot on the bottom pairing

Makes sense. Term is more expensive than AAV nowadays with the cap going up pretty considerably each season

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>The cap should go up a little, but yeah it won't work with all of them. I feel like Schenn will move on. He probably saw how much Kevin Hayes signed for and will look to hit FA. Unless the Blues can convince him that the 2C spot is his (Robert Thomas is the writing on the wall), I bet another team will give him a better fit.
Contracts look good, but I'd hope for 5-6 yrs for Petro at that number. Don't wanna be stuck with a late-30s cap disaster.</div></div>
If Hayes is worth 7.1m in FA, Schenn is at least 9.5 :tearsofjoy I can definitely see a team paying at least Hayes money for Schenn's services. You think Petro will fall off a cliff like most around 35?

worst cap team
I'm not entirely sure Zacha, Crouse and Rasmussen belong as they're all so young and either on their ELC (Rasmussen), just coming off their ELC (Zacha) or on a short term, low AAV contract (Crouse). There are certainly worse players around their cap hit, but I enjoyed this in a strange way, good job! I wonder if it's a sign that there are so many Red Wings on this team... Hmm.

I see what you mean, it'd be a trade of potential versus (semi) established. I hadn't heard that he would be open to signing an offer sheet though... Very interesting

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>You don’t give up a prospect like Dobson for a one dimensional player like Laine. I know he’s a legit goal scorer, but that’s all he is. Dobson is a blue chip, can’t miss possible #1 defenseman who plays an excellent game on both sides of the puck. You especially don’t trade Dobson for a player like Laine when you can just OS him for just under the 4 1sts level and force WPG to make a tough decision.</div></div>
Wahlstrom perhaps? As one dimensional as Laine might be, he is still a highly skilled goalscorer. If all it took is an offer sheet below the 4 1st's level then why haven't other teams done that for Marner or Tkachuk or Point?

That's just it. It <strong>does</strong> make your team worse, in other aspects. You have a lot of talent upfront, no one denies that, but that alone doesn't make your team better when you've got very little to pay your defencemen or backup goalie, or the depth to get you deep in the playoffs
