He probably won't even get Brent Seabrook, even if we add a first.

with the way the rest of the defense played Jack Johnson might be an improvement.

Even as a leafs fan I want the Oilers to do well. Not because I like the Oilers but because the alternative is to waste the prime of a generational superstar and deprive us all of fantastic playoff hockey.

Itd be nice for Ottawa to get a few smaller guys like abramov (if he develops well).
A couple small wingers paired with brown and white and Tkachuk, who can really help create space. Plus it’s obvious for everyone involved with the sens; Formenton and Batherson are so ****ing exciting to have in your pipeline. Although I believe batherson will be the elite stud Ottawa wants him to be, I really like Formenton, if Tkachuk or white plays Center you could have Formenton- Tkachuk (Or white which is just as exciting)- Batherson; which is a dream line</div></div>

Bobby Brink would have been a <strong>PERFECT</strong> fit as a RW compliment for the Tkachuk-White line. Crafty as hell, and can get pucks on net for Brady to gobble up. Hope Ottawa knew what they were doing with Shane Pinto. Time will tell.

Rookie Tournament thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kaifin</b></div><div>Not a whole lot to say that you guys didn't cover, except maybe my surprise of Aspirot. Brannstrom was absolutely the star of the defence but I really liked Aspirot's game. He threw his body around quite a bit with Kelly and Kastelic, especially with the hit on Evans, and was pretty defensively sound from what I saw. It'll be hard for him to fit in with Ottawa, even in the future, having Chabot, Wolanin and Brannstrom (plus Lajoie if you want) on the left side but I can see him being a decent 7th D to fill out the bottom pairing when injuries rise up. Excited to see the boys play in the next game!</div></div>
Even if Aspirot is just a depth AHL guy, you still need those to bolster a winning AHL roster. Obviously you want your young prospects to be the key pieces, but you still need your Jack Rodewalds or Erik Burgdoefers. If Aspirot can be that it's a win for Ottawa. After impressing two years in a row, I bet he's earned an AHL deal.
Nick Welsh caught my eye a few times, most notably when he got sprung on the breakaway out of the sin bin. Definitely someone I'd keep an eye on. Could be good depth on Belleville's really weak RD side. That's what you should be looking for out of Invites. It's incredibly rare to get a guy of Parker Kelly's level on an invite.
The Dman who has me intrigued is Max Guennette. Makes a lot of shrewd defensive plays, and had a few smart breakout passes. Hard to expect too much out of a 7th round pick, but he's been noticeable in a good way, which at this stage is all you can hope for.

Not sure about how drastic his decline will be - he doesn't get lined up very often with big hits and doesn't lay them either - but every player declines. Would be nice for everyone involved to raise the AAV in an effort to reduce the term. For me, 9.75 x 5 is a better deal than 8.25x8 or something like that.

The cap should go up a little, but yeah it won't work with all of them. I feel like Schenn will move on. He probably saw how much Kevin Hayes signed for and will look to hit FA. Unless the Blues can convince him that the 2C spot is his (Robert Thomas is the writing on the wall), I bet another team will give him a better fit.
Contracts look good, but I'd hope for 5-6 yrs for Petro at that number. Don't wanna be stuck with a late-30s cap disaster.

Nothing has specifically stated he would be, at least not that I’ve seen anyway. I’m just saying, based on the reports that have come out over the past few days... of the RFAs left unsigned, he’s the one I see as most likely open to signing one.

I’d have to seriously consider Wahlstrom in a trade for Laine, since Laine is what you hope Wahlstrom turns into. As for the OS, none of those other guys have shown a desire to sign an OS yet... all reports indicate Laine would be willing to, as it appears he wants out of WPG.

What to do at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kaifin</b></div><div>I disagree harshly on the line combinations, but personal opinion aside - Is it worth selling off Pageau and DeMelo? I keep seeing people trade them off and never really entertaining the idea of keeping them around. In my eyes, I see DeMelo as Methot and Chabot as Karlsson in this rebuild, a solid duo that has no real reason to be split unless things start going south for them. In Pageau's case, I see us re-signing him because he's the familiar face along with Anderson, Borowiecki and Ryan, the only ones to have spent more than 3 seasons and a 'selling point' or face of the team for the fans (though that's mainly Chabot now). I've always liked the idea of him playing 1st RW with Tkachuk and White, being the veteran presence on that line and a solid two-way contributor (not the mention playoff warrior when we actually make it)
If it turns out there is a log jam at centre and we start selling off some pieces to make room for more young guys, then I see Tierney being a better (higher value) trading asset, as he's coming off a pretty strong season on a very bad team. I might also look to flip Anisimov instead (and maybe eat a bit of salary) due to the extra year on his contract. On defence, I agree Hainsey is most definitely being moved - as while I don't see Lajoie being a permanent blueliner, I can very easily see Brannstrom getting the call fairly early and potentially multiple times across the season if he somehow doesn't stick around for the whole year</div></div>
The line combinations are whatever, you can stick them in a blender and they'll be just as accurate as what I came up with, I'm thinking anyone who is a pending UFA trade, the reason being that odds are they aren't going to want to resign with the team that is probably gonna be bottom by a large margin. JGP could get you a decent return, as could Boedkker at the deadline, and as a rebuilding team to me it just seemed smarter to sell of any pending UFA's so the team regathers maximum value, leaving as few UFA's as possible to walk away from the team

I agree that UFA's are selling points but you still need a few veterans to help keep the kids stabilized. Pageau and Demelo still have roles to play and can fit up and down the lineup if need be. While they might garner a bigger interest around the league, there is incentive for them to stick around and if the price isn't right, I'd re-sign them to a 3-4 year contract. I think Demelo also has way more value then a 4th round pick.

I don't see OTT getting a 5th for Ennis, Borowiecki or Anderson (unless a playoff bound team has lost their starter or backup to injury and Andy is having a good year).
I'd obviously like to extend Pageau and Demelo but since their UFA it will be there choice, not ours. That being said DeMelo should get a MUCH better return, and I think Pageau is being undervalued a little too. A playoff team that gains a pivot capable of playing the middle 6, who is an elite PK guy, who can shadow/shutdown one of the oppositions best players night after night... I'd be looking for at least two 2nds. Even more if you can get an agreement in place for Pageau to sign with them.

Dylan DeMelo is not getting traded and certainly not for a 4th round pick. He's a first pairing RD for this team and their best defensive defensemen who can also move the puck. Wouldn't be out of this world to ask for a late first for him. But he isn't getting traded. At this point he is way more valuable to this team than yet another pick.
Also Morgan Klimchuk is going to have a hard time making Belleville's roster at all, let alone Ottawa's roster and certainly the top 6 of Ottawa's roster.
And Colin White is the first line centre not the second line right wing.
