True. It was definitely better with Myers and Trouba, but you've still got a deadly offence with one of the better goalies in the league and the Byfuglien - Morrissey pairing

Seems like fair value, just gotta hope that Laine doesn't turn into Trouba 2.0. Brassard is also all but an Oiler from what I've heard. Still, Here's hoping they can get deals done with these two and don't end up trading one of them because this team is scary good (on paper)

An incredibly deep pipeline, and in every position too. I'm obviously a tad bit biased but I believe it's the best prospect pool in the NHL. It's not a guarantee, especially if we aren't going to pay these players what they're worth in a few years, but if this is the team in 5+ years it could be very dangerous. Excited to see more of Brannstrom, Brown, Batherson and Hogberg this season!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Melnyk_0ut</b></div><div>Dylan DeMelo is not getting traded and certainly not for a 4th round pick. He's a first pairing RD for this team and their best defensive defensemen who can also move the puck. Wouldn't be out of this world to ask for a late first for him. But he isn't getting traded. At this point he is way more valuable to this team than yet another pick.
Also Morgan Klimchuk is going to have a hard time making Belleville's roster at all, let alone Ottawa's roster and certainly the top 6 of Ottawa's roster.
And Colin White is the first line centre not the second line right wing.</div></div>
I've really liked DeMelo since he came over. It also seems to be a trend in Ottawa that these late draft picks find a home/blossom here (before we trade them away). I agree that he has much more to give to this team than a 4th rounder (or even a second), you might be able to pry him away from me for a first though... and OP did say that the lines weren't accurate and could be thrown in a blender, so... *shrug* I'd go for something like this, assuming that C. Brown, Hainsey, Anderson (unlikely), Boedker, Ennis are traded:
Tkachuk - White - Pageau
Duclair - Tierney - Batherson
Anisimov - L. Brown - Verroneau
Balcers - Chlapik - Ryan
Chabot - DeMelo
Wolanin - Zaitsev
Boro/Brannstrom - Jaros
Nilsson

I disagree harshly on the line combinations, but personal opinion aside - Is it worth selling off Pageau and DeMelo? I keep seeing people trade them off and never really entertaining the idea of keeping them around. In my eyes, I see DeMelo as Methot and Chabot as Karlsson in this rebuild, a solid duo that has no real reason to be split unless things start going south for them. In Pageau's case, I see us re-signing him because he's the familiar face along with Anderson, Borowiecki and Ryan, the only ones to have spent more than 3 seasons and a 'selling point' or face of the team for the fans (though that's mainly Chabot now). I've always liked the idea of him playing 1st RW with Tkachuk and White, being the veteran presence on that line and a solid two-way contributor (not the mention playoff warrior when we actually make it)
If it turns out there is a log jam at centre and we start selling off some pieces to make room for more young guys, then I see Tierney being a better (higher value) trading asset, as he's coming off a pretty strong season on a very bad team. I might also look to flip Anisimov instead (and maybe eat a bit of salary) due to the extra year on his contract. On defence, I agree Hainsey is most definitely being moved - as while I don't see Lajoie being a permanent blueliner, I can very easily see Brannstrom getting the call fairly early and potentially multiple times across the season if he somehow doesn't stick around for the whole year

As the great Emperor Palpatine would say "Do it". I dream of what those first rounders could turn in to if Ottawa is garbage for all of those years, but I also dream of having our own Sedin twins. It kills the dream a bit that they aren't the Sedins and they aren't twins but damn do I ever want to see Brady and Matthew play together. Toss White or Brown in the middle of those two... :hearteyes

I'd love to see Brady and Matthew play together, as I always got goosebumps watching the Sedin's play and that would be amazing to watch in Ottawa. If I'm honest though, if we're giving Tampa three 1st's and White for Point just to trade him for Tkachuk, I'd rather a trade like Brannstrom+ (+?) for Tkachuk <strong>and</strong> keep Point!

Prospects to Watch at Every Position
I'd love to see Bath on Anisimov's wing with Duclair. He was electrifying to watch!
Something I thought about after the Nilsson signing and reminded of when you brought up Hogberg is: How long do you see Nilsson staying (past his new 2-year deal) and who do you see taking the reigns if we don't acquire another goalie through trades or FA? I'd say it's Hogberg's 'job to lose' at this point, but I liked what I saw out of Daccord and I think he'll be ready in another season or two. I'm worried about Gus and hoping he can recover from last season and get through the growing pains of the transition to NA and return to his WJ and SHL form.
There's lots of talent in the pipeline right now and it's going to be exciting watching them develop!

I dont really know I guess get younger
Yikes! I think you might be over-valuing your players just a bit. Kane and Dillon are both good players, but their value isn't nearly high enough to grab two young forwards that are just getting their feet wet by adding a couple of mid-round picks (or receiving a young prospect goaltender in Dillion's case).
I'm also not 100% sure you <strong>need</strong> to send off Kane after he's found a spot on Hertl's wing (Correct me if I'm wrong) and you signed him to a massive contract (which likely was a bit of an overpayment and could be hard to move). He's entering his 'prime' at 27 and you definitely aren't going to get a player like Konecny back for him in a trade without adding in something big yourself. In Dillion's case, you could likely get a 2nd rounder or maybe a 3rd and a mid-tier prospect back from a team looking for depth on defence as he'll be a rental. I'd be worried if SJ tried to sign him long term and he wanted more than his current 3-3.5m as there's already 27m wrapped up in Burns, Karlsson and Vlasic.

Not finished
It sounds like you guys might be finished, judging by what was said after the Gusev trade to NJ. Something along the lines of "We thought the trade was fair and we weren't going to tear apart our team chemistry for one player. We're a good team now and we expect to be better next season."
Ignoring real news though, I think these are pretty lateral moves. I dunno if the team is any better than it was before. If I look at it from the perspective of Schultz for Schmidt, Simon for Nosek, and Weal for Zykov. Little cap space was saved (if any) and no production was really gained or lost for the most part going off of last year's numbers. Though I will say Schultz would be a good addition as a RHD on a team full of LHD and I think would be good <strong>with</strong> Schmidt and not instead of Schmidt, might try sending McNabb or Merill and sending a second instead of a third rounder.

I'm not sure I understand trading White and a 1st for Hertl, and not trading for a goaltender to carry this team to the Finals. Andy's been good so far, but he isn't going to be able to play 60+ regular season games and 20+ playoff games.

They confirmed that the rules for Seattle will be the same as the Vegas draft, and that Vegas is exempt.
Also you could probably protect Ozhiganov or Zaitsev over Liljegren, as he'll likely be exempt from selection

Rumours are deals with Duchene and Stone are proceeding well, taken from TSN guys. And I'd give up Ceci for a conditional 7th, the condition that he win the Norris or we get nothing.

I'm sure there's someone worse than Johnson, but that pairing does sound absolutely dreadful.
Pretty good first impression by Batherson as well though. Even without our 1st this year and the 2 big UFAs, things are looking good for the future. White is slowly growing into the elite 2way centre he was projected as, Tkachuk is everything that was 'hyped' about him and more, and Chabot's taken over Karlsson's role very nicely. Our young defence just needs to grow and to find a goalie for the future or hope that Andy's legs don't give out before Gustavsson is ready.

I just don't like Gallagher ;)
I also wouldn't go after Quick if we're going after a goalie but maybe Bobrovsky or even a lesser name like Markstrom. Bob is a UFA at the end of the year, so he'd be a rental unless we re-sign him, but Columbus has Korpisalo who they seem confident in to be their starter should Bob not re-sign. Vancouver also has Demko and DiPietro for the future, which might be much closer as Markstrom has 2 years left. I'd just be worried about giving up anything for Quick, as good as he is, because of how injury prone he is. Just some examples off the top of my head but I think they'd be cheaper options than Quick

I like the idea of the Calgary trade(s), uniting the Stone and Tkachuk brothers. Not a huge fan of the Montreal trade and I can't see LA parting with Quick for so little - as fragile as he is currently - but parting ways with Ceci makes me instantly like this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>Does Vegas even have to expose a player? I think it was in the rules that they won’t lose a player to expansion</div></div>
Who knows. They changed up the rules for the Vegas expansion quite drastically from the last one with Columbus and Minnesota(?) if I remember right. Vegas will be 4-5 years in but it wouldn't surprise me if they kept that rule for them.
Good defence and scoring on the wings, but the lack of a true Top6 C is worrying unless Sheahan turns into your Karlsson. Goaltending is- iffy. Let's say Vegas is exempt from exposing any players, that leaves you with Korpisalo and Kinkaid, but I highly doubt Columbus exposes Korpisalo especially if Bobrovsky isn't re-signed. (which people think is highly unlikely)
