GAME 4 - NEW POWERPLAY
Liljegren should be a healthy scratch. Put Gio in his place. Shelter his minutes 5 on 5. Gio can run a PP. He also has a decent shot.

Looks like Nylander isn't playing. Plus it's better to ease him in when he gets healthy. He should feast on the 3rd line.

Well at least his team is.
Outplayed Boston tonight.
If it weren't for Ullmark it's 6-2 Leafs.</div></div>
Ullmark is something else. But I'd start Swayman next game if I were Boston, he has the Leafs' number.
I think both teams will split in Toronto. This is going 7.

It's likely going to be a the expense of Liljegren which is a horrible mistake since he's the only defenceman capable of moving the puck up ice other than Rielly.
Gregor sucks, everyone should play over him. The whole "hit everyone in sight" is half the reason TO wasn't good last night. Too many of their players did that.</div></div>
That's why that message should only be given to the 4th line. And only for 5-7 minutes. Leafs weren't good last night because of bad goaltending, mental errors, and lack of discipline. If they clean that up, and get some early saves, they'll be fine.

If the current line up loses in game 2 again, Keefe will make worst moves than these ones, like putting Marner with Matthews again and reuniting Rielly with Brodie. Sometimes you have to throw stuff at the wall and hope some of it works out. Because the current lines didn't provide anything last game.

Marner trade
Leafs aren't trading Marner for bits and pieces. A top prospect and a really good roster player have to be coming back. Or three quality pieces, like the Jets trade with the Kings last summer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>carter_mackenzie24</b></div><div>Jones cup run was like 8 years ago. Lily was probably the Leafs best d-man in game 1 and no Gio is not physically capable of taking on the load against Boston. With Clifford, at that point bring in Gregor because he plays a similar game but he can actually skate.</div></div>
Jones saved the Leafs season. He still is capable of providing better goaltending than what Sammy and Woll are giving right now.
Liljegren will get exposed as the series goes on and the intensity ramps up. Gio can play good if given 12-14 minutes. Last year he was exhausted. This might be his final year so he'll be extra motivated to put in a good performance every game.
And Gregor is a better option than Holmberg and Robertson but I just like the meanness and physicality that Clifford plays with. Ideally him and Reaves see the ice for 5 minutes and hit everything in sight. For this series the Leafs should roll with 3 lines and then revert back to rolling 4 lines when McMann is ready to play.

Yea, they won't be back next year. They were band aid solutions. They can't move the puck, make a pass, skate back effectively. They're just not good defencemen. Washington dumped Edmundson and still made the playoffs.

Edmundson is better than Lyubushkin. Rielly needs a bruiser and a veteran on his pair. Liljegren is not that and Brodie has been awful this year so Edmundson is there by process of elimination.
And JT doesn't have the speed to be a top six player. At least Domi is fast and can make a play. He's a more impactful player than JT at this point in their respective careers.

If the Leafs lose round 1 they keep Matthews, Rielly, Nylander, Knies, McCabe, Benoit, McMann, Woll, and get rid of the rest.

The rest ehhhhhh idk</div></div>
Jones is better than both Sammy and Woll right imo. That last game against Tampa was a joke, he wasn't at fault for those goals. Jones has proven in the past that he could go on a cup run.
Liljegren is too soft and weak to play against Boston. He gets crushed alongside the boards, at least Gio who is a passion merchant at this point in his career can bring experience and shot blocking to the team. Liljegren offers nothing.
Clifford is a guy who can match the physicality of Boston's bottom six better than Robertson, Gregor, and Holmberg can. If McMann was healthy he would obviously go in.
And I like JT better as a 3C, which means bumping Domi down to 2C. JT has to be given sheltered minutes, not a top six role. He was at his best this year on the 3rd line.

Final Game 1 Card

What's the point of knowing Bert-Matthews-Domi works, to then not use them together...
Bert-Matthews-Domi
McMann-JT-Willy
Knies-Holmberg-Marner
Dewar-Kampf-Reaves
And why have your best defensemen on the 2nd pair?
Rielly-Libby
Eddy-Lilly
Benoit-McCabe
Are you trying to sabotage them?</div></div>
Putting either Marner or Nylander on the 3rd line won't get the best out of them. They have to be in the top six. I don't like Matthews with Marner, so Nylander goes to the 1st line. Ideally Domi plays center on the second or third line but he isn't capable of that, so he goes to the wing. Also, Keefe can always go back to the Bert-Matthews-Domi line if the team needs a goal desperately. That's their best line, but the point is to create the best line up, not just one elite line.
As for the defense, it's about playing the best pair, not best defenceman. Lyubushkin is a 7th D, do you really want him playing 20 minutes against the toughest competition? The guy can't make a pass. Benoit and McCabe has been their best pair so they should get most of the tough matchups. Rielly and Lyubushkin should be given sheltered minutes.

For me it comes down to defense, goaltending, and coaching. The Bruins have the advantage in all three categories. Depth scoring and special teams can go either way. Unless Matthews goes beserk and scores 10 goals in the series, the Leafs don't stand a chance.

That's correct. I think it's 15th out of 16. Washington has a worse group, although John Carlson is the best defenceman amongst both teams.

FLA is a tough forecheck team and you need defensive guys in the bottom 6 who can help prevent dangerous opportunities
Dewar and Jarnkrok are gonna be in. It sucks but thats what happens when a team has a bunch of good depth and some of those guys do things others dont
Like after watching them vs. DET do not want to see Knies-Kampf-Reaves as the 4th line. They just were not good</div></div>
I forgot about Jarnkrok. I remember him being really ineffective and not impactful last year. I don't think he's a good playoff performer. But he should still be in the line up.
