Reaves and Dewar have to be in. Florida plays a physical style of hockey that they're more suited for. Take out Holmberg and Robertson, they can come in if the Leafs are down in the series and need a lift in game 3.

Not happening.
Rielly plays best with a physical right handed defenceman. Hronek is also asking for a lot. The Leafs don't have the cap to sign him.

Tkachuk forced Calgary's hand. At the time that trade was received very well and Treliving was praised for getting such a big return in a tough situation. Huberdeau just hasn't lived up to his contract. Treliving is not to blame for that.

As said before and will end it here when healthy Marner is a 30 goal 100 point player. He is one of the best 2-way playmakers in the NHL and u dont trade that for nothing or let it walk
You extend em and be done with this silliness</div></div>
You're right about him in the regular season. He is all that. But in the playoffs he's not. And that's the problem. That's why the Leafs can't afford to invest in him imo. We've seen the data. We've seen playoffs after playoffs that he shrinks in the big games.
But agree to disagree.

Paying two wingers over 11 million each gets a team nowhere in the playoffs.
Let him get his money elsewhere. Leafs need to invest that money in defense and goaltending.

I don't want him walking for nothing in 2025, and keeping him at 12+ million a year would be a huge mistake. This is the best course of action imo.

He can control his destination because of his NMC and other teams know that. So don't expect a blockbuster return if he gets traded.

The organization has quintupled down on this core; so no reason to think they’ll change now. And it’s - to a large extent - out of their control because every core member has NMC. And cap starts to open up next year and really does in 25-26</div></div>
I've already seen enough. I have a long memory. This core can't get it done in the big games. They need a better defense and better depth. Moving on from Marner, Rielly and JT is how that's going to happen.

You think it's poor assets management for the Leafs to let a UFA walk. Leafs are loaded with UFAs, who they didn't pay other teams to acquire them. It would be poor asset management for the Sens to give up so much for Marner, when they could sign him a UFA.
If the Leaf lose in the first round.....why would Reilly be traded? Why not Matthews, Nylander, Knies....the list goes on.</div></div>
Matthews is about to score 70, Nylander is putting up a 100 point season and Knies is contributing on an ELC. They are not being traded. Rielly doesn't play PK and he isn't a true PP QB. I love him as a player but he's a luxury piece, not a number 1 defenceman who can play in all situations. I don't think the team will get worse if he gets traded. And Marner is great, but it's foolish to pay two wingers over 11 million each. That's a recipe for disaster. So ideally he gets traded as well to his chosen destination this offseason.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It's rather a meaningless post, in you when you have the Leafs roster instead of the Sens roster who are cap strapped now, never mind taking on about 6.4m more this season. As I suggested, Sens don't have the cap for the trade. "Respecting approached"? C'mon, Reilly has no desire to satisfy Trevling's ambitions. Reilly answer would be, "You had a choice and you decided to play Nylander 11.5m..
Marner may leave as a UFA, but trying to find a team to trade for him, who he would be agreeable to trade and has the cap for him.....well try to find a a team.</div></div>
Sens will offload some players this offseason, it could be Norris, or Batherson. For a player like Marner they'll make cap available.
Letting Marner walk to UFA is poor asset management. I'm sure the Islanders regretted letting JT walk to free agency. Smart teams try to find a trade and get something back for the superstar player they developed.
As for Rielly, it's a conversation worth having. If this team loses in the 1st round again then trading him should definitely be an option.

Why would you trade Marner to a division rival so he can light you up for 8yrs? Rielly took less than market value to stay, Why would he waive? At least make it realistic.</div></div>
This team needs dramatic change. The core shouldn't be brought back next year. Matthews is untouchable. Nylander just got a contract. And no one is trading for JT. So the two obvious candidates who have trade value are Marner and Rielly. And this team has proven this year they can win without them.

I'm doubting Reilly waives either.</div></div>
Marner waives for the money, for the fit, and to try to win on a divisional rival. Him, Stutzle and Tkachuk will form the best line in hockey. I like Marner, I just think it'll be foolish to pay him more than Nylander which is what he'll demand.
Rielly would probably waive if Treliving approached him respectfully and told him to give a list of 5 teams. I think if Treliving is ambitious he would want to construct a whole new defense and that means shipping out Rielly.

DeMelo will be 31 when his contract starts , 36 years of age when his contract ends. Brodie's value ended last season. If similar DeMeio takes the same route, he would have three years of non value</div></div>
Brodie has been overused. With Tavares coming off the books next year the Leafs will be able to add a true top pair defenceman, allowing DeMelo to get easier assignments and aging more gracefully. Unfortunately for Brodie he was asked to do a lot and now his foot speed has gone. DeMelo won't be in the same situation in this scenario. Also, he's more physical and guys like that find ways to have an impact in the game even if their pace is gone. They can just stand in front of the net and make life hell for forwards. Brodie never does that.
Regardless, Leafs will have to spend money on the defense this year, and top 4 guys who are 27 or 28 will ask for more than 5 million. I think that should be the limit the Leafs should spend on one player this summer. So they'll have to sign a 29-30 year old to save money.

Five years of 31 year old DeMelo at 5m is a disaster waiting to happen.</div></div>
Leafs got Brodie at 5 million when he was a similar age and for the first three years that contract aged well. Giving DeMelo 5x5 is a reasonable deal imo, especially considering the Leafs are in win now window and need to upgrade their backend.
As for the McCabe deal, stranger deals have happened. A late 1st for a top 4 defenceman who is making 2 million is fair value. The Sens have young guys to pay, they're looking to trade Chychrun, so they'll a hole. Going out and spending big on a top 4 defenceman may not work out, but they also want to make the playoffs so they still have to get better somehow. Getting McCabe isn't a risk. He fills an immediate need and if it doesn't work out they move on next year. They will get picks back in a Chychrun trade, so they can afford to spend a late 1st.

Think about all the franchises who have made the playoffs only a few times in a short span before flaming out. We have the longest active playoff streak in the NHL.
Not to mention that we have one of the best cores in the league and are very well set up to win it all soon. Only 1 team gets to win the Cup each year. Be patient</div></div>
Stat padders don't get you Cups. They get you regular season wins. That's what all the Leafs will ever get with this core.
