Hronek had a great start for production but has fallen off a bit and everyone knows the reason his numbers are so good is from playing beside one of the most gifted puck moving defenseman in the NHL. 6x6 is a nice pay bump and I think he enjoys playing with Hughes enough to take it and run. If Tanev is more find another value D man for short term, he is an aging defensive D man and isnt physically big enough to punish opposing players, at 34 years it's what he is worth. Joshua might be worth more but he's not 2nd line material or 3C and teams are getting smarter about how much they spend on 3rd/4th line wingers there are enough value players he might get less on the market.

That line has just been so good, giving a short contract to both Joshua and Blueger to keep it together for 2 more years I think is worth it. I see him more like what JTM was on Tampa coming to Van, a good player on a strong team not getting the minutes because of the strength of the players in front of him. 3.5M could be a steal on a 3 year term with the cap going up and we get his best years allowing our Center Depth to develop to strong players in the AHL before pushing into the NHL.

There has been a bit of a debate of being able to trade Myers full cap without taking something back. This I think is a feesable option that Can is willing to do that gives us enough cap flexibility for the season

Looked it up, the only major forward I see missing significant time for you was Jakub Voracek, between him JakeB and ZackW there is about half your games lost to injury. Voracek is no longer on the team and no one was brought in to fill the gap, maybe Fantilli plays 3c and you move Roslovic to wing and it works out. But I was replying to the previous statement that Columbus was deep on wingers and that to me does not look to be the case.

Columbus was 28th in scoring last year thier middle 6 could use a boost in the scoring department. Too many young players and not enough established producers from what I can see. I think Garland would be the better fit for Columbus he's proven he can produce no matter what line he is on. Beauvillier has only proven to produce when on a top pairing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Mantha has 51 goals in 203 GP going back to 2019-20 (4 seasons not 5); in the same time frame Garland has 70 in 275 GP. Mantha scores 0.25 G/GP; Garland has scored .004 more goals per game over the same period. You can 100% get on Mantha for his injury history and lack of availability, but comparing goal scoring rates is just splitting hairs.</div></div>
Looking up Mantha's injury history he missed 10 games in 21/22 season due to Injury and 1 game in 22/23 meaning he was a healthy scratch for 50 games over the past 2 seasons. You forgot to factor in the other half of the point production where Garland in that same period had 106 assists vs Mantha's 66. so 59 more points over the course of those seasons. Garlands cap hit is almost a million less and he has been playing in a bottom 6 role(due to excess wingers for Van not lack of skill) for the majority of the past 2 seasons making those numbers even more impressive. Van is in no rush to trade garland for a bag of pucks and his value will jump come trade deadline due to the expected cap increase next year.

Barely over 30 points per 82 games for his 1st two season and a slight bump in his contract year to 39 points, all 3 seasons where not great and thats on a fairly strong team(made playoffs 2 out of 3 years). So with the possibility that this year was a bit of an outlier and he plays wing (a position of strength across the league) he's not going to get a great return even as a former 1OA. Sure with his cost control I would bump it up to a 2nd but thats it. It would be crazy to give up more than that for a player who "could" be a top 6 but currently is more of a 3rd line winger.

Massive overpay for Laf, Columbus only paid a 3rd for a sign and trade with a full 8 years on Severson who was going to be a top UFA this year. Giving Beau @50% and 2 picks is gross asset mismanagement. Beau strait across for Laf should be all it takes or at most a 3rd based on the Severson trade.
I wouldnt touch Byram as our LHD option 3 concussions already and has not completed a season yet, has Ferland written all over it.

Boeser was a .7ppg player and still considered a down year for him last year I would rather keep him vs that trade Tanev is too injury prone and now in his declining years and Ruzicka doesnt offer anything we don't already have.
I would rather get prospects/picks for Garland Vancouver cant afford Johansens contract in the 2 years following.

Overspending before Van is a true playoff contender, sure it fits next year but then you have to resign Pettersson Beauvillier, Podz, Silvos, Joshua, Aman with the OEL Buyout having a bigger cap hit. I dont think I would commit over 3Mill to bear and not for 4 years I think 2.5ish for 2 years is all I would want he has not moved the needle enough for me to do more than that. Gavrikov hopefully is a bit cheaper but would like to see a player like him fill in our LHD. Compher is too expensive as a 3C right now for us, need someone in the 3M range if we are going after a UFA at most.

Not so much for his play but his cost vs cap hit for a team not wanting to spend real $$ to hit the cap floor, he will have a bit of value to those kinds of teams, worse case we retain 2 mil to get value elsewhere.

All in after OEL buyout
Now is not the time to commit 5m on a 3C or another D for 6 years. Trade Myers leave OEL on the books for another year even if he sits in the box so his buyout is cheaper develop your own players we have enough wingers and C to fill out our Bottom 6. No one wants Trymakin at this point he's not even showing that well in the KHL, Wolanin is better and comes cheaper than that. Mayfield is a big commitment for an over 30 yr old when Van is trying to get younger. You may as well pick up Schenn again he would come in cheaper and on a shorter term and is proven to do fine with Hughes, but even then you have Bear's RFA rights and will also come in cheaper and shorter term and is younger with better mobility. Also Boeser is a much better top 6 than garland if you are going to trade one that's who should go.

These Trades Destroy Vancouvers depth at all positions aside From D and even then the Defenseman you are getting back is way past his prime
Trade 1
Conner Garland maybe but only if we cannot trade another winger where we get value back vs losing it
Trade 2
Brock can get a 2nd round pick without taking back 8 mil in bad cap space for Vancouver. He's at .775 PPG right now and its still considered a down year due to his lack of goals. He has great Hockey IQ for being in position and while his shooting is down his passing has really improved. IMO he is worth a 1st if we trade him or maybe we keep him and deploy him as playmaker who can still score goals.
Trade 3
That Florida trade is just awful, we get 1 year of Sam and then he hits UFA and lose low cost controlled players to gain what we already have an abundance of in talented wingers. We have more than enough tweener D man that can step up so Carlsson is not needed
Trade 4
Myers will not cost that much to trade once his bonus is paid that's an overpayment and a half to trade him
Trade 5
We have what is arguably a top 5 goalie in the NHL for a great contract, you do not trade that unless you are getting the world and you want to trade him for a former 2nd round pick and a 3rd? That would be up there for worst trade in Vancouver history.

I would argue they are better than 50% of the D cores out there. If Livingstone isn't as good as we hope maybe Iorio is and if not still have Bear who has been serviceable with Hughes and one of the other 2 fills in at 3RHD. Wolanin has a great stride and good hockey IQ he can fill the defensive 2LHD and let the Canucks be patient in finding who they want either during our after the 23/24 season

OEL is not going anywhere
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeautifulIdiot</b></div><div>I think OEL is going to be on LTIR for the remainder of his contract after this season, his back is giving out, look at the way he strides, and the way he uprights himself after being in a scrum, there is something going on with his back. I also think that we would get more out of trading garland now and Beauviller later as Beauviller as a TDL rental piece could fetch a huge amount, probably a 1st and a prospect if he continues at this just under point per game pace. I am wondering about Karlsson as being a piece that gets moved up into the NHL at some point here in the near future, he has shown really well in the AHL and I think that if they can start developing his centre game again he could be a real big asset as 3C, great 2 way game, great shot, great hockey IQ, I think he should be a guy we look at that role. Or we could look at JT Compher if he decides to test the market, RH3C who can kill penalties, I could see patty overpaying for him</div></div>
Yea I like Compher and if that was the piece that pushed this team to a contender I would be for it, as a 3C on a team that is still finding pieces probably more than I would like to spend. I knew Karlsson had decent offensive numbers but wasnt sure how developed his 2 way game or faceoff prowess was. Also that puts your with Aman and Karlsson as 3/4C not much experience there centering your bottom 6. I was also looking at Barbashev again not sure what his price tag is, 60 points last season but this season he dropped a bit(although so did the entire team) if he shows will with Vegas through the playoffs probably puts him out of our price range. If OEL goes on LTIRetirement thats a best case scenario for us, haven't really heard any news regarding OEL on the seriousness of his injury or overall health going forward so currently planning on him returning next year.

All these Trades for an undersized winger in Hirvonen to Vancouver are not going to happen, we have our share of those as it is the need is at center and RHD. Schenn most likely pots a 2nd pick on his own and garland probably a B+ prospect(RHD/Center) or high 2nd low 1st round pick.

Canucks pass hard, we give up one of our few good RHD, and trading Mantha for Garland who are comparable in points production and garland is the better contract. Lars is a dump that would have to pay on top of, Canucks have no need for a 33 yr old declining Center.

I would hope Myers gets dealt, I really like the idea of a heavy hitting D pairing in Stilman and Burroughs if Stilman comes as advertised and they both don't over commit to the physical play and get lost. Myers was supposed to be an offensive D but he never has really been that for Van and he's a liability on D IMO.

0 Cap and no spare players the moment 1 player gets a short term injury or illness they are playing short . Your top forwards/D are good but kinda falls off for cherry picking a team.
Swap McDavid for Drais, is McDavid the better player? Sure but how much more can you improve your team with another 4 mil in cap space.
Replace Vasilevskiy/Nedeljkovic for two of Demko, Shersterkin, Markstrom that gets a really strong pair of goalies and still saves you 1.5 - 2 Mil in Cap
Just in those 2 changes you have added 6 Mill in cap space to have 2 healthy scratches and upgrade your middle 6 wingers.
