Toughen up

You couldn't be more wrong. We're trading our good youth to bring in great youth. PLD is only 24 and is one of the top young centers in the league. And half the roster is still younger players. You don't win anything with a roster that's too young. Only Lucic is old but he adds desperately needed toughness. Acciari and Marchessault play with high end speed and tenacity. Other qualities we need. Don't be so narrow minded. The only point I agree is with Oth. But I'd give him a shot because he's a tenacious player. We need more players who bust their ass every shift, not aloof players like Kreider and Chytil who completely disappear for games at a time

Toughen up

Quoting: Campabee

What exactly has Lafreniere done in 3 years to warrent getting the 5th ova pick? He is still young and does have the potential to be a good player but that is a bigger risk than just drafting Michkov or another prospect. If Laf had put up 50 points or something in any single year then maybe you could argue that he still has tip line ceiling but as of right now in a "what have you done for me lately" league he is not worth a top 15 pick.

Actually I meant to add a Ranger 3rd going to Montreal also. Gorton guy. He could want him. Of the Rangers youth he's got the most upside. Hasn't exploded onto the scene as quickly as others but he's got a nose for the puck and has a knack of being in the right place. Good instincts. Unfortunately he's blocked by Kreider and Bread on his natural left side.

Chiarot is a rental. Wouldn't be brought in to be resigned. Next years 3rd pairing is Jones & Schneider. Kessel is also a rental. If he were to be resigned it would be a low cost 1yr/1M type contact. If Strohme wants to stay he'll need to take a lower aav with an extra yr or two given to him. Next years cap will certainly be tight, even with a possible 1M bump up. But it's workable.
And if you seriously don't think these additions make us a better team, then....

Obviously with Kakko it's all about potential. And he's getting there (but not fast enough for NYC). Only 21. He'll be a player but NYR are entering a solid 4/5 yr window to win. I'll trade futures for present.

Yes. I'm a huge Chiarot fan. If someone offers a 1st for a 3rd pair dman, Gorton should obviously jump at it. But i think a 2 & a 4 can get it done.

certainly possible. Drury's stated he won't trade a 1st for a rental. Obviously Gorton knows the Ranger's system. A 2nd and a prospect he likes is doable.

Panarin's NMC prevents him from moving so it's Zibby. Fox is just too important for their whole D core. Lundkvist is a solid prospect and could form a solid pair with Broberg. Could see them going after a C if dealing McJesus.
So in total we'd have
:rangers
Connor McDavid
:oilers
Alexis Lafreniere
Mika Zibanejad
Filip Chytil
Nils Lundkvist
2022 1st round pick
2023 1st round pick
In other words, it's the OPs original trade but with Kravtsov, Blais and a 1st changed to Lafreniere, Strome changed to Chytil and Schneider swapped to Lundkvist.

Kreider is a top 6 winger but Rangers talent there pushes him to a 3rd liner for 6.5/yr. They can't do that. They need to move his full salary. Vegas needs to move MAF and needs help in the top 6. Rangers need of building a stronger bottom 6 outweighs there top/middle 6 excess. Chytil is also excess. Basically swapping for Devils 2nd rounder, which will be a high pick.

1. Those are good estimates. Salaries will depressed over the next couple years
2. Ott LOVES Laff. On draft day they tried to trade for the 1st pick to get him. Hometown boy will sell tickets, big time.
3. When a player publicly wants out, his team loses leverage. That's a strong return regardless.
4. Players with NMC get moved all the time. It's often a meaningless contract addendum. He'll agree to go out west to a contender, where no state tax allows him to collect about another $200k/yr
5. You're clueless. Rangers are one of the most cap flexible teams with a ton of cap space available.

Playing TDA at LD is def an option for Rangers. But we have a surplus offensive Dmen. We need a couple of strong stay at home LD. I'll trade one of the top young right Dmen to fill other needs

Yes, cap is tight for sure, as it is for everyone. But Staal can be bought out to free up 2 million more this year if needed. And we have a lot of cap space going forward. I think it's manageable.

When I look at trades, they're not always hockey trades. I guess it's my bad if I assume people understand the economics, and other factors, that can trigger trades. In Edm, like it or not, McD has openly expressed his unhappiness at how things have gone for years. And it didn't get any better this year. I'm clearly not making this up. That doesn't mean he's getting traded. Actually the chances are slim to none. But that extenuating circumstance makes a trade at least a possibility. And trading to a team out of conference who holds the 1OA pick might not be a bad place to start a discussion. In Boston, the window is closing. Not saying it's shut by any means. But there are aging stars for sure. This trade brings in 2 players in TDA & Miller with elite potential and Krav has very high upside too. Again, the trade chance is slim at best. But it's just a discussion. Amazing how some fanboys get their asses chapped when someone even brings up the possibility of trading for a star on their team. lol

Yes he is. But teams like TB and TOR are pressed against the cap. They'll need to move some quality, expensive players for other needs. Like D and 1st round picks. Don't be so narrow minded. A good GM will seek out strapped teams and try to work something out. All trades can be tweaked.
