Post play in round thoughts
Honest questions here. Forget about cap hit and term for a minute, rank these players in terms of value to the team in a playoff series: Nylander, Marner, Hyman.
For me its: Hyman, Marner, Nylander. Not even sure if its that close TBH.

Eichel for 1st Rounder (#3-7 OA), Jack Hughes, and Pavel Zacha.

I do wonder if some UFAs will look at 1 year deals with the given economy crash/flat cap, with the hope that it will begin to bounce back after next season for them to sign a long term deal.

Emulating Leafs? Don't see elite forwards on LAK.
Compare these top 6's
TOR: Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Hyman, Kapanen
LAK: Kopitar, Dubois, Granlund, Kempe, ?
Not even close.

The Trade
You, my friend, are going to get roasted.
Think from CBJ's side: They get two middle six FWDs in Johnsson and Kapanen, which every team has. Liljegren is a nice piece, but will never end up anywhere near the quality of Jones, I think most Leafs fans would be happy if you said he would turn out to be a solid middle pairing D-man. And then you have a 1st which likely is 20-30 OA. Quantity never makes up for quality when we are talking about a player of that calibre. Only way a trade for Jones gets done is if Marner or Matthews is part of it. I don't even think Nylander as a centre piece gets it done.

Look at the Mcavoy and Werenski contracts, both 3 years and roughly 5m AAV. I don't think Sergachev is as good as either of those guys, so fair value for Sergachev could be a 3 year deal at 4.5m AAV.
Johnsson (3.4m) and Sandin (900k) gives you 4.3m already.

There is no option. I just traded to Anaheim for nothing and added my own caption so people knew it was compliant buyout.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I don't think that theory holds as much sway with a buy-out-on-the-horizon scenario. I understand why guys don't want to be exiled to Buffalo and would veto a trade there, but when the understanding is that the move is for purposes of making you a free agent, why wouldn't you waive? You're going to be bought out and freed by your current team, anyway . . . this way, you get your full contract benefit plus you get to re-sign with the team of your choice, and every additional penny from your new contract is a bonus.</div></div>
I didn't realize that there was no financial penalty to the player being bought out. I have seen this out there, and I doubt it happens, but if MTL buys out Carey Price, then the Alzner contract could be an option for teams looking to capitalize on having no buyout candidates internally like the Leafs. Are there other teams in a similar spot as the Leafs?

Burns to Seattle for picks, you almost need to ask which way the picks are going.... Burns is very good, but paying a guy $8mil a year until he is 40 isn't a good idea for an expansion team.

Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic, Jones, and Kane all have No Trade Clauses (some modified), which could make it very difficult to move any of them if they suspect they are about to be bought out.

Ranking the Top 10 Goalies of the Last Decade
This idea started when I saw a story of Rask considering retirement after next year, and after looking at his stats I realized how elite he has been over the last decade. Since 2010, who has been the best 10 goalies in the league. There were some great goalies that haven't played enough games, as I used 300 games as a sort of ballpark. Here's my picks.
1. Rask
2. Rinne
3. Bobrovsky
4. Luongo
5. Fleury
6. Bishop
7. Lundqvist
8. Holtby
9. Price
10. Crawford

Healthy line-up if we make the playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>This season is one of the best cases for a 1-8 playoff system. It's ridiculous that one of Philly, Carolina, Columbus or New York has to miss the playoffs. There are only two teams in the Atlantic who deserve a playoff spot.</div></div>
Or an even better case for the league wide 1-16 ranking, as half the western conference playoff teams won’t deserve to be there. A real fun twist would be 1-16 rankings, then allowing teams to select their opponent, beginning with #1. Imagine the story lines when a team chooses to play you because they think thy can beat you. We all know Boston is choosing Toronto.
