Guhle is going to be pushing for a starting job on the Buffalo’s Blue line this year or next year. Buffalo needs another solid Defensemen not another wing prospect or salary dump of a goaltender who can’t win a playoff series.

In the Salary CAP era I think you will be seeing goaltenders salaries drop as teams put more money into the top end forwards and defensemen. This is how I see the Sabres building this team anyway. Lehner will start and I think he will be in 0.920 -0.930 range would be middle to upper end of the goalies last year. Shot last year Chad Johnson had a .920 save % while Fleury had 0.921 save %, if the Sabres didn’t resign Chad for what the 1.7 mil he got to be a backup I don’t see them spending $5.75 mil for the next 3 years on Fleury.</i></div></div>

Fleury also had a lower GAA, and played significantly more games than Johnson. Lehner had a .924 last year but only played in 21 games, and his GAA was significantly higher than Fleury's. Don't kid yourself thinking Lehner or Johnson are better than Fleury. That doesn't mean I think Buffalo would make the trade, but the better goalie is obvious.</i></div></div>

Lower GAA is because he was seeing less shots a game then Johnson or Lehner which speaks to me point of Sabres need Defensemen not Goaltending. Yes, Lehner got hurt in the first game and was out for about half the season or more so he only played 21 games but showed he could be a number 1 goalie in the NHL if he stays healthy. Yes it was a bit of low shot at Fleury and a bit unfair but my point still remains Buffalo needs Defensemen so why would we trade our young stud defencemen for a goalie who makes 3 times as much as the goalie we have who we consider comperable.

The big deal about Vesey is that he looks like he can play this year in the NHL and probably step into a second or third line roll on most teams. Since he will only be making $925k compared to $3-5 mil for the same roll player type he's a hell of bargain, not to mention you don't have to give up other assets to get him, which just adds more value to him. Ohh he also isn’t eligible for the expansion draft, meaning you don’t have use one of your protection spots on him. This is why all the teams are falling all over themselves trying to make pitches to him.

If you want to talk “brats” I would say Eric Lindros would fit the bill a lot better then this kid. Lindros was picked first overall and refused to sign with the team that drafted him and sat out until he forced a trade to the team he wanted to go to. If you want something more current there is Jonathan Drouin who refused go back to the AHL when sent down for underperforming and ended up sitting out for half the season almost while trying to force a trade. What Vesey is doing perfectly legal within the CBA and if he wasn’t as good of a player as he is no one would have even heard of about any of this because this isn’t the first time a player has done something like this. The only mistake or thing you could call him a “brat” for is if he had mislead Nashville by telling them he would sign when his season was up. I wasn’t in the room and don’t know what was said. As a Buffalo fan I’m hoping he signs with Sabres but understand if he doesn’t. As for GMTM to trade Nashville for his rights, to be the first to talk to him, I like the call and either way I see it as a good gamble.
