Interesting. I was thinking of a similar trade but with a max $3m retained but Girard has to be included. Just my opinion.

$25+m is plenty to extend Mack, and bridge Newhook and Byram. Olausson should be ready for the NHL by then; Maltsev will have more seasoning and could take 3rd/4th line minutes, not to mention salary cap increases, and so on. I see no issues with Cap in the future here.

-I think Soucy gets a bigger return but he's a decent target to replace Girard.
-I think Nichushkin & MAF sign for bigger deals but you've got the room to play with on this team so not a worry for me.
-Agree with upthread - Eric Gustafsson is a decent 7th D but he's an all offense/no defense kind of D. You can probably get a decent LD3 for a mid/late round pick or $2-3M in UFA instead of going cheap on him.</div></div>
This is great! Thank you for the detailed feedback, I think you're right about Nuck and MAF, it's tough to guess salary especially after winning the cup and how much interest there likey is out there for a player like Nuck. We don't need more offensive defensemen, whoo would be the replacement for Gust?

I disagree. Fleury is still extremely capable, especially with Franky being more of a 1B goalie. Kuemper is looking for term, which I don't think we should offer with Annunen only a year or two from making the jump. Also, Fleury will be cheaper.

I can’t see Seattle doing that.
Nuke gets more money and hopefully more term (6-7 years I’m hoping).
I doubt that’s enough for Fleury.
Don’t sign Gus, he’s <strong>horrible</strong>.
I actually really like the Trocheck deal, he’d be a good replacement to Kadri.</div></div>
Respect. I dig most of what you have to say. I appreciate the thought-out feedback.

Wishful Thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>All right smart ass why would a Stanley cup contending team trade a top 4 dman for picks that MIGHT be something in 3 years? How does that make them better? Everything for the Avs is done in the context of how do they win now. There was a real solid proposal on another ACGM trading him Sharangovich, Mukhamadulin and a pick. They end up with a young top 6 wing on an with upside who already is a 20 goal scorer and a d prospect maybe a year away.</div></div>
Wow, not trying to be a "smart ass" but anything I say to you will come off as intellectually sound because of your lack of awareness. Salary move (Mackinnons/Byrams upcoming contacts), prospects like Behrens in the pipeline, trade bait additions - missing 1st round picks makes it difficult to compete in a trade, etc. Girard is the most expendable d-man and his value to us is not replacing with another salaried player unless that player fits our long-term goal. This trade allows for a myriad of options.....that's why!

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>Okay, your first post wasn't real clear what was happening. I think the Flyers are on board with a deal frame work that revolves around Bowers, Jost, and Colorado's choice of Helleson, Barron, or Behrens. You are one of the few Colorado fans that seems to want Barron or Helleson included over Behrens. The logic is that Behrens is more easily replaceable as a LHD opposed to the other two who are RHD. The Flyers would absolutely prefer one of the RHD.</div></div>
You're not quite aware of the difference between Helleson/Barron and Behrens other than their handedness. He's a freshman point-per-game player for the #2/3 team in the nation - if he continues this performance into his sophomore year and beyond, he's a perennial Hobey Baker candidate meaning his value is a lot higher than getting an aging rental player. Personally, I would offer Helm, Murrey and a sixth-round pick for a player that wouldn't even be top-5 in points on the current avs roster. We don't need him so why would we overpay for him?

Well, I didn't "add 3 pieces." I made suggestions as a replacement for Behrens. Maybe Bowers, Jost, Barron and a third. Or, Kaut, Jost, Helleson. Many options are better than including Behrens.

Behrens is a freshman point per game d-man for DU, his value is on the rise and will only increase. I don't think Sakic will trade him based on his potential alone, maybe throw in Barrons or Helleson, maybe a pick and another forward prospect.

Colorado Giroux
I like Jost on the list, I think he needs a fresh start. I would keep Helleson over Barron, though Barron is more NHL ready. I think they'll want a pick and not McKeown, maybe our 2023 late-round (hopefully) first. I would like to keep JTC because I like his versatility while Jost has been replaced by the more talented and cheaper Newhook. Giroux is a decent player but has fallen off over the last few years, do we slot him on the 2nd line? If so, whoo moves - Nuke? I'm not excited about that for Giroux. Hertl or Pavelski (though I think Dallas makes the playoffs) would be who I target if available over Giroux.

I'd be willing to discuss a top-d prospect but Bowers rather than Kaut. Also, we don't have a first-round pick this year, but a conditional 1st next year might be something Sakic would consider, but he hates mortgaging the future.

Behrens is a stud freshman and will eventually replace Girard several years from now. The Avs nailed it on drafting him in the 2nd round. Barron is the logical replacement when EJ calls it quits and is NHL ready, Helleson is not far behind and is a near-identical d-man as Barron. All I'm saying is the Avs have far more options than most are aware.

We here in Colorado would love to see Stastny back here for a cup run. He's responsible defensively, can score goals, isn't expecting to be a top-6, great 3rd liner but can move up, and can play PP2 and penalty kill. We accept.

If it's not $100M it'll be close to that. This guy suggesting $8 - 8.5M per is out of his mind, MacKinnon will not take less than Rantanen.
Bookmark this post.</div></div>
I agree with you there, no way he'll take less than Rants. But identifying what a player is "worth" also has to include the league salary cap. When McDavid signed in 18' his cap hit was between 15%-16% against the team's total salary - how much should he had been paid? The cap will only be $3-4mm more (figures crossed it's higher) when MacK's contract comes to an end, and if in -line with McDavid, he'd be paid relatively the same. Have the salaries of Toronto's top-3 and McDavid helped them or hurt them when it comes to winning the cup? We know winning matters a ton to MacK, it comes down to how that factors in (2-5% points +- cap, etc.)?
