Keep the Core, Let the Kids Play
Decent overall, but big Z isn't a $4mm player yet. The Avs will likely bridge at around $2.5mm over the next 2 years. Also, in order to get Drouin the Avs will need to part with Barrie or several prospects/picks - I like Drouin and believe he, MacK and Rantanen would make an unbelievable line for several years to come.

Remove Desharnais and replace with Emelin - then maybe, maybe you have a deal.

I agree, but Comeau has playoff experience and is a more desirable target. I'm hoping Colborne is selected in the expansion draft, but no potential playoff teams wants him.

Avs Return
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GoAvs</b></div><div><i>Not sure if Jost will leave ND yet and I hope we keep Duchene since he is our best goal scorer. Why is everyone trading Beauchemin? (He has one of the best +- on the team even though we are -71 in GF vs GA) Overall, not too bad.</i></div></div>
I would prefer not to see Jost leave College just yet, but the Avs have been in discussion with him and I know his plan all along was to leave college early (after the second year). The Avs need him and will do what they can to get him on the team next year. As for Beauchemin, it's more of a courtesy / get what we can for him while we are able, and he doesn't fit in with our new motto is "younger and faster". I like Beauch, but I feel he deserves better and belongs on a winning team in what will likely be his last season - Florida needs a vet dman, and they're a strong team (when healthy).

Offseason Shake-up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div><i>Tampa won't be able to afford Palat and Johnson with this trade. They take on more salary than what Drouin was going to cost. NYI shouldn't give up Leddy because then they have another hole that opens up, and that hole is a lot harder to fill</i></div></div>
Drouin will get close to $6mm a season, while Palat and Johnson together will be in the $9-$10mm range together, taking Namestnikov's $2mm and technically freeing up an additional $500k (difference between Drouin and Barries contracts) still leaves Tampa with $5mm plus in available money with the probability of Dowden and Erne making the leap to the NHL next year. This deal does make sense.
As for the Islanders, they have Toews (an AHL All-Star) likely making the jump to the NHL next season, which will fill the hole left over from Leddy's departure. Also, Tavares wants and needs someone to play with in order for him to resign in NY. If they don't get him help, he WILL leave the following season. This allows NY to keep Tavares and bolster their weak offense without really giving up much on the back end.

Well since I'll be giving up Duchene, I think Leddy (1 year younger and a fellow 1st rounder) and a second rounder is fair. This is an offseason transaction, not a deadline deal. Avs will not get what ALL they want for Duchene, but they will get a top pairing dman.

Dreamy trade deadline retool
While I agree with the trades, I don't agree with the money retained in both the Duchene and the Beauchemin deals. Maybe instead of a 1st rounder, change it to a second, and Beauch is solid dman and I think a 3rd rounder is more than fair.

Colorado Blow Up
I'm an Avs fan so my opinion is a bit bias - but I really like this yet I believe that a draft pick might be a little much, and I think that Carolina might be giving up too much of their future. But I would love to see this, and the available money will allow us to overpay for a proven #1 Dman.

Blow It Up Except Mackinnon
Well since Nugent is being paid 500k more a year at nearly the same production as Barrie, who is a right-handed D-man (highly-coveted) I think that is a lateral move on the avs part - even though Nug is 2 years younger, he is a centerman coming to a team where the top 2 centers are Mack and Duchene... Avs are looking to build the D, not dismantle and add pieces we have plenty of.
Duchene for Hanifin just isn't enough of a return for the avs - Duchene is a "proven" centerman, where Hanifin is an unproven, although highly regarded and young, D-man. Throw in a draft pick, or possibly a decent 3rd liner and you might have a deal.
The Landy trade is just ****! Nothing further here.

17 Avs W/Core
Why do you say that? Avs have spent money in FA in the past, but have had to sign a number of RFA's causing them to be less aggressive in free agency. While I'll agree that all FAs included is this "fantasy" team aren't likely to sign in Colorado, I could absolutely see them signing a few due to the amount of money available and that they need to make a splash. Unless you manage their money, you don't know ****, Foppa.

Trades & Signings - 2017/18
Dylan1995: Avs got 2 first rounders and a second rounder for a O'Reilly (less proven and way more expensive than Duchene) and McGinn (who was a UFA to be). That's not as ridiculous as you make it out to be (Avs don't NEED to trade him like they did O'Reilly). Duchene's a stud and WILL be the canes highest point producer.
IselFan9: I meant to retain $1mm of his contract and I threw in a 3rd rounder, which I believe isn't too crazy, but not likely.
Larkinisking: Landeskog for Fowler is absolutely feasible based on contract lengths and overall payroll. As for Karl, I did undervalue him, but the Avs have the money to pay him (I'll adjust).

Trading. Thoughts?
I agree with Coga16 on Landy to the Wild, likely won't happen. I really like your creative 3 team trade with the avs landing Fleury, a draft pick and Kluemin. Also, The Duchene trade is interesting, reminds me of the O'Reilly trade (which could still work out the way big Z's playing and Compher looks like he'll be something decent). Would rather see a draft pick or 2 for Beauch, though.

Would the Hurricanes do it?
I think Duchene for Hanifin and a 2nd or 3rd rounder would be more appropriate - but Duchene's a proven 30 goal scorer, so maybe 2nd AND 3rd rounder...

Edmonton would need to be the one offering the conditional pick, doesn't matter RNH was a #1 overall pick. Shattenkirk trade is bad all around - Avs wouldn't trade Duchene within the division, and you undervalued Shattenkirk by about $2mm.

I like the lines except for Iginla. The fourth line is very slow, switch out Rene or Blake for Jarome and each line will have some decent speed.

I like this but you will need to send one d-man down (Wiercioch) to help get you under the cap. Likely too high of a price for Hudler - I would like to see closer to 1.5mil to help with the cap.

He's got a 23 man roster, which is the max, and is under the cap. I feel this is a very accurate lineup - Barrie making more than Johnson; a number one overall draft pick with twice as many games under his belt and a much more physical game, shouldn't happen. I believe the arbitrator will come in around 5.5 - 5.85 per season. Erik Karlsson signed for 6.5 after a 78 point season, and Brent Burns signed for 5.76 after a 48 point season - both players are large, more defensive minded.

Very interesting play with the signings of Pirri and Smith Pelly - I like both of these players but believe $2.2m for Pirri is far too high, $1.35m for Pirri and closer to $1m for Grigo. Plus, Mack will not make more than Duchene until he proves himself, and Barrie will be closer to Jones' salary of $5.4m - All in all this will free up about an additional $2m in cap space - but I like this gritty young lineup.

Anything Could Happen - Avs 2016
I understand that several Rampage players took off for Europe. I think you're harping on the small stuff there, Alex - I simply filled in the minors the way it was, no big deal.
As for Mack, it's ignorant to assume that he will receive a larger deal than Duchene since he has not played a full season since his rookie year, and he also hasn’t broken the 60 point mark since that season either. Mack believes he is worth big money and will jump at the opportunity to be paid big money, that will only happen if he signs a bridge for 7-8mil over the next 2 season. If he signs a long term deal (4-6yrs) he will NOT be paid more than Duchene, or even the same.
