<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Why would you want the term? The term is what makes them a bigger cap dump.</div></div>
The term makes me more inclined to think they would play team oriented I guess. One of the things Jones was saying at the end of the season… too many guys playing for themselves. Lee is always a high quality guy… Skinner… idk. Smith has all of the reason to play the wrong way to try and get to a contender… but I guess I don’t know enough about him to think he would play like that 100%

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Honestly, I've liked Smith for a long time and I think he's still got it, or at least ENOUGH of "it". I think it was just a case of Dubas being an idiot, ignoring things like culture and chemistry, thinking he can just throw bodies at the thing and they will do stuff cuz "I am super smart Kyle Dubas." It's a chance I'd be willing to take if we are being paid to take him. And it's not like he is injury prone or something.
But when I brought up "all cap dumps", I was also referring to others that have been proposed lately involving CHI, like Lee, Skinner, etc.</div></div>
It comes down to personal preference… at the very least Lee and Skinner would come with term.

I don't think Smith is that far gone. He can still hang. He was fine the year before, PIT was just not good all around this year. I blame Dubas for generally being an awful GM.</div></div>
The context is different for those two, at this point in Chicagos rebuild a focus and emphasis should be placed on improvement and culture building. I dunno much about Smith as a leader, but getting traded 2 times in ~ a year doesn’t inspire confidence.

Smith really doesn’t move the needle for me, the guy is close to aging out of the league and his production has dropped… remember what Foligno, Jones ,and Dickinson were saying at the end of the season? I don’t think he’s going to come here with the proper mindset in this type of trade… no need for Tyler Johnson 2.0 for cheaper than what we were paid for Johnson!

I think there are better options, and I said the hawks would buy him out because I don’t think he would want to play for us…

I wanted to get Bear as a free agent last season, but there’s little incentive to pick him over a prospective free agent at this time. For this reason Chicago rejects.

Maybe another team will take Mikheyev for just the 2nd, but since we're not starving for 2nd round picks or bottom 6ers, I think the 2nd+ should be our ask. Nice job on the value.</div></div>
More than enough IMO. I’m not gonna complain though.

I believe the CBA states that this is one of those mail in rebates where you must mention the trade at your next purchase of over $50, and mail in special rebate form to their cooperate office with the receipt. If all goes according to plan you get a $10 Visa gift card that expires during its return time in the mail system.

Hey I got a neat deal for you. You get a 2024 4th round pick, and Chicago gets a 2026 2nd round pick for taking on Sheary. That way, Chicago is actually motivated to help you guys out of your bind.

For me it’s an obvious yes… but I would try like hell to get the retention dropped and keep the number 20 pick. I think the consensus is that moving skinner would cost buffalos first round pick and I’m not attempting to muddle that value with retention.

Necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Maybe if the 1st was this year, but a day two pick isn't a matter urgent enough to make that decision by the draft with SO much work needing to be done with the pending free agents, Nikishin, the draft itself, figuring out if they're going to extend the draft by another 6 hours by themselves again like they did in 2020... a lot to think about.</div></div>
I’m open to it be 20 this year, with the stipulation in the trade description. Also, this doesn’t necessarily need to be AT the draft, but after the canes have a good idea of his market. Think like a week or two before… heck we even got a trade today.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tugspiedman</b></div><div>It's my preference that the hawks make this kind of deal in a year or two when we're playing more competitively, and that we focus on a 2C or 1RD (assuming we take Demidov this year). But if KD believes Necas is our guy I could get on board with this – value is reasonable</div></div>
A situation like Necas might not happen again, so I’m willing to open the cupboard to get it done early.

I agree that a hypothetical like that is ideal for the canes, but I am more so suggesting that if the offer presented in the post is the best they get around draft time, they should consider it.

While I typically don’t like putting the onus on the receiving teams in these types of deals… the can could use the capital to do exactly what you are saying. At the very least if this was the best pure value deal the canes received in exchange for Necas I would hope they strongly consider it.
