Ofc they have value. But you were talking about 9th overall pick. Big difference between 9th overall pick in super good Draft vs a 2024 (BOS) 1st which is Top 10 Protected.

Trading away a $4 million player and getting something back for him is infinitely better than trading away two second-round draft picks in order to save $3.875 million against the cap.

Monahan has nothing to do with this due to the gulf of difference between his buyout and Petersen's. In this instance, Petersen's term is an asset rather than a liability.

Didn't two actual GMs just trade for Jonathan Quick? Didn't a guy as smart as Stevie Yzerman trade for Alex Nedeljkovic? Didn't somebody trade for Scott Darling?</div></div>

That could be true. Very tough situation ahead for the next gm😬

But trading Matthews would be a catastrophe in many ways IMO. What is the plan when Tavares starts to decline and his contract is up? Then there is nobody. Getting a top 6 Center from free agency is really unlikely.

Leafs starts a rebuild? So many questions if Matthews is traded.

”Play the kids and be bad” what does that even mean? And who are you reffering to? There is a much bigger chance that the kids will take a step forward than backward. It would be worrying if they didn’t do.

"Heads and shoulders above" That's just an outright lie. Reinbacher plays against former NHL players while these guys you mentioned are playing against Juniors. Barlow would not have 30-50 goals if he had played in the AHL this season.
