They got McCabe in a trade with Chicago, he did not sign with TO. You infer that Cole and Myers were overpaid, by who's standard, yours? I missed which team you were the GM for, please let us know.

The only American player on TO is Mathews and he was drafted. All the players they have signed are either from Canada or Europe. The Canucks have signed 3 Americans as free agents as well as signing Miller, who was an American UFA to an extension. Do a little research before you post.

Food for thought. Wash. is playing at a.425 clip. They are 5 pts. out of a wild card spot and have 8 injured players. Strome is not helping them to win, Bo will. Management wants into the playoffs and can't wait too long to make their move. A lot of a player's value is based on the circumstance of the person doing the viewing.

I know. I was also really torn to take Guenther. They need another scoring winger badly but I figured they needed a future 1 or 2 Defenseman on the right side and unfortunately, Luke Hughes is a lefty like Quinn. With Quinn on the left and if Brandt (right) develops like he is projected too, for the first time in our history we would have a legitimate 1 and 2 defensemen at the same time. Brandt is also a little bigger and plays a more physical game than Luke and I figured that we are physically weak on defense and we need a more robust player. When we lost Tanev, Stetcher and Biega we lost their energy game and we haven't been able to get it back, especially on Defense.

They didn't take him off waivers because they don't have cap room. Jake is at best a third line winger and he can't even kill penalties. At 2.55 mill he is grossly overpaid. We can replace him for less than half and by trading him we get rid of his cap exposure and we can get Deangelo to help shore up our pitiful defense. I don't care that he quit Twitter and went on Parler. The Canucks have been in the Swedish fog long enough. We need more guys with fire in their bellies. If he pisses off some people too bad, suck it up and get to work.

I think that Chicago will pull a Canuck and will get some of their good players back and have a great last 10 games. I figured the Canucks have lost in every draw so far (including the first with Buffalo) and was hoping they might finally get lucky this time and move up.

Covid salary cap implications when following NHL protocols
What happens to a teams salary cap when a player is taken out of the lineup because of the NHL's Covid protocol? Example: Miller and Benn with Vancouver.

opening day lineup
The lineup I posted is based on who Coach Green has been playing in practice ( I screwed up, Hoglander should be right wing with Horvat). I didn't know taxi squad players had to be waived, thanks. If claimed does the player have to go on the active roster or can the claiming team put them on their taxi squad? I don't think too many teams at this stage of the game: many with their own cap issues, will be claiming 4th liners and 8th Defenseman. Benn has been playing with Hughes in practice until Hamonic is cleared to play on Sunday. Reports say Benn will be the 7th Defenseman because Green doesn't want to have two rookie defensemen in the starting 7. I would rather put Benn on the Taxi squad but I'm not the coach. So far Rafferty has been slotted ahead of Chatfield in practice. The 3.1 mil in cap space is a good thing, it would allow us to either pickup someone off waivers, sign Podkolzin in April, give us room to get a player from a Cap strapped team like we did with Schmidt, or pickup someone to fill a hole at the trading deadline. So far Eriksson and Mac are the 13th and 14th forwards in practice. That is why I expected them to be put on the taxi squad.

The cap hit for Loui is 6m. He receives only 4m salary for 20-21 and he already received 3m in signing bonus in July and therefore only gets 1mil in salary. The amount the Canucks retain from the salary they have to claim on their cap space for the remainder of the contract. Ex. 20-21 they retain 1mil in salary they would have to include the 1mil on their cap, but they would save 5mil on cap: 21-22 retain 1mil in salary and include the 1mil on their cap and they would save 5 mil on their cap. The CBA : When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. It does not say if you can retain more of the players salary than they earn. So if Loui earns 1mil in salary I don't know if they can retain more than the 1mill.. It does say part of the players salary but it is hard to say how this would be interpreted by the legal beagles. The Canucks would be paying 500,000 more than is owed in salary for the first year.

Palhal: Loui would be giving up 3 mill he gets a 1m signing bonus in July. Loui would have made over 60 mil US by then and has many business interests in Sweden where he could easily make up the 3 mil and still play in the Swedish hockey league if he wanted to. Who are the better goalies?
