Who do you want traded most

I'll let you guess where Crosby falls into that category. If Crosby took less term, he would likely get paid similarly to other top players in the league.</div></div>
Yes, I agree, moreover it appears like both Matthews and Marner got paid... That's it! Hard to admit but I think it's time one of them has to go... I choose Matthews. But Marner comment of late are unacceptable.

OK, the insult isn't constructive, relax. I'm serious if you know where I can view the actual CBA document, help a brother out! I haven't been able to find it; albeit, your also right who in their right mind would waste their time analyzing it if they weren't getting paid to do it. BTW the common sense term is so often used incorrectly so could you clarify what you mean when using it? Are you suggesting a common understanding amongst an educated populous? If so neither you are I are included in that consensus and therefore I can't use common sense, perhaps you meant something else?

Marlies become Leafs ???
Is it possible to get our 1st rounder back this year? Are Kapanen, Kerfoot, Dermot, Barrie, core players? If we sold them all for futures couldn't we fill those spots easily in free agency; while restalking our development system with new hopes!
I don't care about playoffs this year because we clearly aren't ready... <strong>we will be</strong> but now we are not!

Two completely different signing era's, Matthews was willing to sign for 8 years but it pushed his AAV above 12 per year which would not have allowed the team to sign Marner and Nylander to the term and money both players are clearly worth</div></div>
I tasted that media-cookie too! It was bitter and left a bad after taste.
I love how today's'-fans regurgitate media narratives like we all didn't watch the same shows. In order to support the things, you are claiming you need evidence otherwise its just uneducated speculation; which is fine and part of fandom. This being said, other than repeating the talking-heads discussion points what is your evidence?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>The 5 year contract has nothing to do with heart or lack of heart, the 80s was so very long ago, things have changed, players get paid real money, it's a real league, Matthews went after a 5 year deal to cash in twice and from his pov it's be foolish not too cash in as much as he can. Everything has changed since the 80's. Your argument is a little outdated and completely mute. I've bled blue and white my whole life and if I had the opportunity to cash in twice I would no question</div></div>
Fair points, I won't argue them but all things considered, Sydney Crosby cashed in how many times? and how many cups does he have? To most of us regular people, your logic is great advice... get yours. But for multimillionaires is it the same? Are they playing for riches or for the love of the game? I mean when all the dust settles how much more is 60 million then 55 million? Does the value of that 5 million really translate? Would it be too much to ask them to spare it for the team's benefit? Lastly, shouldn't players get paid for accomplishments, rather then what we think they could be?

I just feel at his heart he is not a Maple Leaf if so why would he even ask for a 5-year term. One could say that is emotional abuse, in that he holds Leafs Nation hostage until that time. That's not a take one for the team sort of act.

Disagree all you want, however, this script was played out already and what I purpose is completely different than how they approached it last time. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

On the ice, he is a Superstar, and by that, I mean a selfish puck hog! He is more driven to break records then do what it takes to win!
Off the ice, there is that shady issue last summer!
Also if Dubas announced he was on the Market the bidding war would rake in everything we need and more!

Facts vs Emotional-Fragility
I have had it!
This popular narrative that the Sports-talking- heads are spinning and the social media parrots are regurgitating is nothing short of ridiculous. What is even more baffling is at least the press personnel are getting paid to do it, albeit, we should not forget that the same organization that owns the Leafs are the media networks we are watching. Conflict of interest… maybe? I digress; my point is that the narrative is the real issue.
Fans are calling in, typing on message boards, pleading for accountability to the PLAN, the plan that we agreed to (i.e., “Patience"). Moreover, this team is not ready, but that does not mean it can not become a contender if we seized the moment and slow down a little and addressed our issues with development. We can be patient; this line of thinking is proof!
Let me tell you what we do not have the patience for, pretending that just making the playoffs is a consolation prize that we should value!
Please, stop dismissing us as over-reacting based on our emotional fragility! Facts are facts, no matter how you feel about them! For god sakes, I am a grown man who is more than capable of regulating my emotions? Stop waving this BS flag as if it some sort of invisible forcefield to protect others from accepting the facts.
Give your head a shake, stop kidding yourselves, but most of all, please stop belittling the intelligence of Leafs Nation!
Go Leafs Go!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Were talking about Rielly in this instance. He was saying Rielly was fine defensively while I contend he very much is not.
These are rapm charts. Basically it measures how good a player is in a catagory relative to an average player (y axis is SD) and runs the numbers through a regression model.
Tldr, Rielly is good offensively, bad defensively.
And they aren't my charts, so the title isn't exactly something I can control</div></div>
Thank you for that. I agree with you about Reilly not being great defensively using an eye test since I don't have the data to analyze! However, I do think he is a great offensive defenseman!
As I stated, I have taken many courses in statistical analysis and the first rule of thumb is the statistical-results must be able to withstand scrutiny. It's impossible to quantify the reliability of any analysis without transparency of the process; for that matter, statistics can be falsely generated to support anything and frankly most don't understand enough to know the difference. Fact is Stats/Data Analysis is one of the most hated/fear courses in the university. The interpretation of said analysis should also be scrutinized and if this site you are copying these graphics from isn't providing that information, can any of it be trusted? I think not. Additionally, using a regression-equation isn't going to provide any sensible analysis, this sort of analysis would require Anova's and lots of them.

Next, it is customary that when you present a chart you must also present a title that explains what the chart represents.

How does one get ready to watch his team be ruined? No matter what the rm is broken! It won't be fixed as long as the players have this much control of that room. They got a 5+ million dollar Hall of Fame coach fired. Because of a past Ottawa Sen in his twilight didn't get his ego stroked... that BS media narrative is suspicious and frankly even when Spezza tied his laces on the wrong side of the battle of Ontario he sucked on the defensive side of the game; which, was what he was signed for. Thread:
Dubis PLEASE Retreat, Refill and Reposition,
It has been a long three weeks since I started my Approach to deadline thread, here is some of my reflection since.
Honestly, my feelings regarding how to approach this year's trade deadline have not changed. Here are a couple of questions I consider as I try to answer this question if I were hypothetically the GM of this team.
Are they playing well?
Will making the playoffs be an accomplishment? What does it mean not to make them like Tampa a few years back didn't?
If they make the playoffs, do they have a chance to win it all?
What is the cost to improve, and do we have the resources to spend?
What is the opportunity cost of each: buying or selling?
Each of us will have our answers to these questions. No doubt!
I have been a Leafs fan long enough to go from the naive-optimist "we'll-get'em-next-year" fan to a highly bitter skeptic waiting for the hockey gods to crush our hopes again just one more time. Funny, if you are the former and don't believe it will happen to you... go and check out Steve Dangle's old LFR's in comparison to the ones he is posting these days. Let me save you some time, what you will see is he who was once known for his Ra-Ra super optimistic love for this team, converted a too and sheer lack of desire to watch games of an organization he literally makes a living off. I understand what he feels twice over being a decade older and having seen this show before.
Fact is a locker room full of SuperStar egos, does not a great team make!
Sell all UFA's and furthermore if we don't want to continue like this we must consider trading one of the 11mil salaries in the offseason.
Final Question... What's more important, team hardware, or an individual of the team getting hardware?

Hey, I like Manson but is he really gonna fix the real problem. The defence is a big problem but in truth our depth which is something I have been saying ever since I join these chats at CapFriendly is sparse! I love Johnny T but signing him rocketed us into conversations the team wasn't ready to start. We should still be focusing on building assets but lately, we are tossing them all away.
