Hypothetical Playoff Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Having a guy that can create that much offense playing with McDavid would be worth so much more to them. Maybe get him to sign. Losing Larsson doesn't matter, they were better without him in the lineup. Johnsson as well would have a much bigger impact than Larsson. Larsson is Zaitsev but a little better. Not even much better just a little.</div></div>
If they can sign him we are having a different conversation but there is no guarantee they could, and even if they could I don’t know that they’re interested him at much above 6mil which he will probably ask for considering they have Bouchard coming who fills the same roll.
The Larsson to Zaitsev comparison is weird to me. Larsson is a fair bit better and when you take his contract into account the difference is night and day.
Though I do agree Larsson could be expendable to the Oilers as they have RHD capable of replacing him and he’s not the same player he was in 2016, but it doesn’t really make any sense to offload him for that return.

relax for a bit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs09</b></div><div>What bothers me on , is everyone on here thinks lets put Sandin and Lily together, that will solve it, and they are going to be great,
There is a reason why Lily has not stepped in. Both are too Small and not developed enough yet to be in that position. I think they will be good, but why rush these kids?
NHL is a pretty big jump in level of play from the AHL.</div></div>
First of all, definitely not "everyone" feels that Sandin and Liljegren should play together, let alone that Liljegren should even be in the lineup. At least call it like it is. My point is you have 2 big-game defenders out. You have Travis Dermott now being relied upon for more and bigger minutes, and although the Leafs won last night, Travis did not have a good game. All season, defensively, Barrie has been a bit of a question mark. Marincin is just pure awful. Holl is hit or miss without Muzzin on his left. And Ceci, unfortunately, is what he is. So, the Leafs are treading water on their back end trying to shore up some holes temporarily. What do you do? Well, Dubas could make a trade, but between the inflexible cap situation the Leafs are in, and Dubas being Dubas, I doubt that happens until after the all-star break. So, the only other alternative is a call up. Who has played well on D for the Marlies? If you've paid attention to the baby Leafs/watched any of their games, you would know that their 2 best defenders were Sandin and Liljegren. So, do you give them a shot as a reward for some great play, or do you keep them down there to further "develop". If you believe in the sport philosophy of rewarding good play, then I don't think the Leafs, or rather, Dubas, have much of a choice. Especially with how he played at the World Juniors, I fully expect 19-year old Sandin to stick with the Leafs for the rest of the season, unless he gives them a reason not to be recalled. If last night's game is any indication, Sandin was probably the Leaf's best defender. At 5'11, he skates incredibly well, smooth, can clearly give you offense and can lay hits as well. Saying they are too small is a complete excuse for rewarding your prospects when the time calls for it. As for Liljegren, he's really stepped up his defensive game since starting in the AHL. I am actually, honestly, unsure why, he hasn't slotted into a game yet ahead of Martin Marincin. I have full confidence that whether they play as a pairing, or are split up but are both in the lineup, they will at least show flashes as to why this team is so high on them. They are young, yes, so expect mistakes, but it's for everyone's benefit to see what the Leafs have to work with because guess what? Next year, I expect both to be full-time Leafers.

You've way overpaid Dermott, given Muzzin too much term and not solved the backup goaltending. This team is equal or worse then what is currently on the ice, no chance the Leafs do that.

Not even close. With the money Matthews has we wouldn’t be able to keep our players that we already have. PLD, Anderson, Korpisalo and others are all RFA at the end of the season. Not to mention losing our best player. Hard pass from Columbus. Toronto can keep Matthews.

Perron leading the Blues in scoring. He and parayko make less combined than Marner and this just ruins the cap for us moving forward. Mitch has to prove that contract in Toronto. Plenty of value included in the deal but it just ain’t gonna happen. No parayko deal will happen.

credible or not rumor for PIT and TOR

What will happen? My guess, either TO will start playing like they are capable of, Babs will get fired and replaced and then they'll start playing like they are capable of. All the other white noise like this drivel about Barrie wanting out, is just made up fan angst from trolls.</div></div>

One i'm not even a pittsburgh fan. Not even remotely close to be a fan of either team first of all. Second of all I can even show you the article that was written. 3 you aren't in front office so you can't really say they haven't been looking around because you wouldn't know if they have or not. 4 if barrie isn't doing well and he has half a season left mine as well get as much as you can for him before he hits the road.....logical enough isn't it.

I was always told assuming makes an ass out of u and me. don't assume I'm just hating on Toronto because I'm not. there is a huge gap between Barrie camp, and Toronto signing a deal. Leads a lot of people to believe he isn't going to sign. Toronto isn't a great fit for him especially when he is more of a PP defenseman than a regular defenseman. Makes his money on the PP and he isn't being used that way. I'd go ahead and say if that is the mentality of Toronto. He is walking out really quick with no value coming back your way.

Fix this team
I don’t watch a ton of Leafs games, so Im not a good judge of whether or not Babcock is the problem, but from what I know about his management of TOI and the back-to-backs, it’s clear something in his philosophy is off. It doesn’t help that they don’t have a capable backup and that the already shaky defense has been even more shaky this season, but Babs doesn’t seem to be getting the most out of his players; not from a motivation standpoint, but just a role type thing.

I wonder if non Leaf fans will ever understand that piling onto all Leaf threads and articles to troll their fan base is literally half the reason they get so much attention. If you aren't a fan of the team, why bother?</div></div>
I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here, and what you're so upset about. You asked for the "global opinion of Nylander" if he wasn't a Leaf, I responded in kind. I don't dislike Nylander but I think he's overrated. Leafs fans (at least the ones I interact with) tend to think he's a superstar, whereas I do not.
As for my comment about Toronto fans overrating all of their players, you need only to look at all the Leafs AGM's on this site to realize that's true.
Not trolling, just responding to your question. I'm sorry if that has offended you.

Quick Question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>You really love to point to 61 points as the highest he's scored like he has a decade of experience. He is 23 years old, the best is yet to come. If he had a coach that would embrace his talents instead of wanting him to be Zack Hyman, he'd get a lot more opportunities than he currently gets from Babs.</div></div>
You're right, I do like using that as a point. Results Matter. It's a results game/business. I also 100% agree with you that his best years are in the future. I'll defer to you on the coach. I do watch TOR games, but not nearly as much as you...I can admit that too.
With that said Winger is the easiest position to transition into the NHL. I'm not saying it's easy to be an NHL winger...I'm just saying compared to Center/Defense/Goal...those are all harder to break into the NHL. He's working on his 5th year in the NHL and at some point the vertical career trajectory needs to be adjusted. He's creating a water level and while I do think he can get better...It's getting harder and harder to prove because the results just aren't there.

How many giveaways by Marner resulted directly in goals for the other team?
How many bad plays by Marner resulted in goals for the other team?
Same questions for Nylander.
I can tell you Marner is way past Nylander in this already this year.
I can tell you dont need to look up stats if you watched the games to know the answers here.</div></div>
I like your post because it's a fair point...15 give aways is too much and leading to goals is certainly not a good thing, but that's just 1 year...and there are A LOT of other things Marner does. Nylander is very sheltered. Far higher OZone % starts. No PK time tiring him out. And then the elephant in the room...he's not producing results...and hasn't ever produced more than 61 points.

I’d bet at some point Nylander is dealt for a defenseman. Kapanen and AJ don’t hold the value required to get what Toronto needs......Right handed top 4 d man who ideally can play with Reilly and cover for his defensive ineptitude. They should have traded Nylander for Pesce when they had the chance in my opinion.
