Nash to Toronto
Not really a whole lot of interest from the Leafs. Nash is a downgrade from JVR, and although you threw in some picks, they won't be helping us for years

Lol.. you aren't getting someone that drives the play like Lindholm/Fowler for JVR. Gonna have to cough up one of the big 3 and I still think you'll struggle. Good D-men are worth their weight in gold.</div></div>
I completely agree, just that JVR is one of our best assets and I don't want to waste it on someone who isn't a top player. Basically on the Leafs I look and see what a defensive upgrade looks like I compare to how much better are they than Carrick or even Hainsey

I still think Sabres are a couple years away from contention but I do think they have a very capable GM. Really liked buffalos moves this off-season. Will be interesting to see an Eichel extension and what the AAV looks like

We need some moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Doug7004</b></div><div>Fan, I see no value to either team i the Boston trade, and if you have figured out and rightly so, that Trouba will never resign in Winnipeg, then you are offering way too much to bring him to Toronto, even if you can expect to sign him! Winnipeg has said that they want a young LD man back so in this case let them either eat his last year or offer them Nielsen and a 1st or 2nd! YOU"RE RIGHT they'll say no and get nothing back for him in the long run! If Not a LD, offer them any of the players you put in, and a 2nd!</div></div>
In the Boston trade I see the Leafs nabbing the perfect 3rd line centerman who when paired with JVR and Brown could become a huge offensive threat while maintaining their defensive responsibility. Leivo and Rychel are going to be great 3rd and 4th line wingers respectively but we need a 3C.
No too sure what you're trying to say with Trouba but ultimately I'm offering them this:
-2 middle six veteran forwards to help them make the playoffs this season (also could see them resigning Bozak)
-A cheaper and still young right handed defenseman in Carrick who probably tops out as a very cheap and reliable no.4 defenseman.
-A B/B+ Left Handed Defenseman in Nielsen, and knowing that Winnipeg loves their tough and mean defenders I think it could be reasonable they would value him
-A first round pick
Ultimately my logic is this: 1 we're upgrading Carrick, Nielsen is behind our depth charts with adding Rosen, Borgman and Liljegren, Bozak and Komarov are great veterans but our young guns need playing time

Florida Panthers 2017-18 (Actual might look this way)
In all honesty it might very well look like that, which I think might be a bottom feeder team. They have great core pieces and a good defense but they have 1 impact winger and a huge risk then spare parts.

No thanks from the Leafs, Petry is an expensive top 4 option that doesn't provide much offense, Mitchell is a depth player, Kapanen isn't being moved unless its for a top young right handed defenseman of sorts

In no world does Demers = Kadri and those picks don't really mean a whole lot to a team competing for right now.

Threepeat 4.0b (Bozak)
I'm biased BUT I do really think Bozak would be perfect in PIT. He can rekindle his magic with Kessel and move up if Sid/Geno get injured. Leafs could retain 50% potentially too. PIT is desperate for a centerman and he would be as cheap and effective at 2.1 as it comes

What does it hurt long term? I know you want to "draft and develop" but the Leafs window for success is now and this gives the leafs a dynamic and young top nine that can stay with the team long term and a sustainable defense core. If you look long term Marleau is traded with picks to free up space when his play deteriorates, Grundstrom steps in, Dermott, Rosen, Borgman, and Liljegren can all take steps to become NHL defenseman. Than on top you have Johnsson, Rychel, Brooks, Bracco, Timashov to all become the next wave of cheap entry-level players.

You better hope that you could pull that move off, although you would think they would have made that trade had it been available before trading away Johansen.
Wilson on the second line is not great.

Grading the Marleau Signing
Thanks to CapFriendly, you can see the contract is front-loaded so that by July 2 of the 2nd year he could be traded away to a team like ARI for a pick since the actual money owed is significantly less than his cap hit. If Marleau can go 25-25/50 this year than its worth it, also depends a lot on how well the Leafs do as a whole, if they become Atlantic Division Winners it will look a lot better.

Leafs Prospects that could Crack the Roster Next Year
Nielsen won't be with the Leafs next year, he's got some good offensive instincts but he's still a way's away from making the NHL.
Kapanen is a lock to make it (if that wasn't obvious)
Dermott will most likely make the team.
Rychel is waiver-eligible so I could see him being traded (he would be a good, cheap 4th line forward)
Johnnson could be called up in case of injuries.
Rosen is an unknown but he is 23 so it wouldn't be hard to see him playing some games.

Next Seasons Cap 2018-19
JVR Contract should be interesting to see, but I think that's way below market value, probably at least a 6x6 or maybe even 6.5x7. I'm not saying he wouldn't take a hometown discount but that's something to keep an eye out for.
Also have no desire to sign Gauthier to a 4 year deal

Uniting Yakupov and Kuznetsov!
I would imagine Kuznetsov fetches closer to 7m, Burakovsky gets closer to 3.5/4 and can't see COL taking on Orpik. I think Yak is such a good move to sign though, for 1million if he doesn't work bury him and you have almost nothing on the books, if he works and scores 50 points that's great value

Awful moves for the Leafs, Miller is a 3rd pairing guy. Gardiner isn't being moved for picks and we'd be lucky to get a 7th for Marchenko. Alzner apparently has horrible shot suppression stats and considering he doesn't put up points I can only pray Lou and co stay FAR away from him

Leafs Select Lijegren
People were worrying, would Toronto pick the Best Player Available or the Best Defenseman Available? Lucky for us we got the best player available and he happened to be a right handed defenseman. The only downside is that we're going to have to wait a while, he'll probably play in Sweden next year, then Marlies the year after than MAYBE he'll join the Leafs.

Don't know why Vegas would pull that move. They're trading away their 2 best players and the best two in the trade and getting spare parts in return. The 31st overall pick isn't exactly enticing either

Setting up for Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>Hard to see why NYI is making such a big splash in the trade market if they didn't think they could re-sign Tavares next year. There's no way NYI would just let JT hit free agency for nothing going back.
That's not to say DET can't attract a good free agent. I just can't see NYI letting JT get away, especially now that they're moving asset(s) to keep him.</div></div>
I'm going to say DET can't attract an elite FA like Tavares. There would be so many better options. Detroit fans are still living in the days where they were a destination for FA's and viewed as competitive. Maybe you could overpay significantly for a okay UFA and get him to come but not one of Taveres' ilk.

IF this was on the table for Price, should MB take it?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>I don't want to lose Price for nothing and if we do sign him it might be 10+ mil.
Strome has a lot of potential. Yeah yeah I know he couldn't make the Coyotes roster, doesn't mean he can't be stud center that MTL needs in a year or two with AHL seasoning.
Duclair is a talanted cheap winger that can score.
Deangelo is a puck moving dman in the mold of a PK that this team desperately needs now that Sergachev is gone.
Domingue is a backup goalie with a starter in spurts capability. You flip him and a draft pick to Vegas for one of the goalies available.
For those who think so, Price will not land us a #1 center in return. Stop thinking he will. Pric eis one of the best goalies in the world if not the best. It doesn't matter, goalies are worth less than other positions right now. Maybe not 15 years ago they were but now they aren't. We're about to lock up big dollars in a position that can be replaced with an inferior player and still compete for the cup.</div></div>
Marco I think this is so dead accurate, the problem with Price is that he's going to potentially eat up 10m in cap and for what? Your goalie can't be your highest paid player. I don't know if ARI is ready to deal Strome yet but he's definitely a solid piece to trade if they think Keller/Dvorak can get it done
