<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>Reinhart has took over 300 draws in the last 3 seasons.

Also florida has cap but not enough to bring back Reinhart/ montour and Lundell.

I doubt anyone takes knight until he shows flashes of his potential again. Bobrovsky is an unmoveable contract.
Moving Ekblad wouldn’t be smart.

If they sign all 3 ( Reinhart 9-9.5, Montour 6.5-7.5, Lundell 3-3.5) they have about 4 mill to fill 2 dman spots a whole 4th line and 1 3rd liner.

Even assuming sourdif and mackie make the roster on their ELC’s that would still leave them with having to fill 4 spots at less then nhl minimum</div></div>

300 faceoffs is nothing. They are also not what defines a center. He's a right handed shot and Barkov has constant injury issues. He's about as much of a center as Nylander is.

As for cap space. I'm more than willing to bet he would take a discount to stay in Florida. 9.25M x 7 years is 67.75M, Florida would only have to offer 8.1M to top that (which they will almost certainly offer at least 8.5x8). On top of that, Reinhart knows what it's like to play in an unsuccessful environment and is in one where he is having immense success, why would he risk losing that again?

You doubt anyone would take a chance on Knight? Maybe not a cup contender but it's only a 2 year commitment at 4.5M. For the potential of being a bonafide starter I'm more than willing to bet a team with lots of cap space would take a shot on him. Bob is more moveable than you make him out to be too, especially since his NTC drops down to a 16 team partial this summer.

I doubt Lundell makes more than 3M this summer, he has not had nearly strong enough sophomore and junior seasons to justify much more than a 2.5M bridge. I think they are way more likely to let Montour walk than Reinhart right now

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>I'm not looking at this summer when I talk about potential cap issues, I'm looking at the summer of 25. As it stands, the Flames should be a little under 20M in cap space that summer. Then you subtract those few new deals from this summer, whatever that amount is. Sharangovich, Mangiapane, Coronato, Zary and Poirier (plus maybe Vladar/Kuzmenko?) will need new contracts. The three young guys, we have no idea what they might be able to pull given another full NHL season to work with, so it's hard to know how much of a squeeze will happen. Might be nothing, maybe even probably nothing, but I kinda assume Zary will get a nice raise, and I think Coronato could be a big breakout candidate next year. There's also a lot of D ice time that will need to be filled and Poirier could bust out a bit.

Of course, Conroy could make a trade or two and have loads of cap space, and the whole concept could be shot. Or they could be in the playoff mix and Conroy eats into the cap space somehow. It's a long way off, I'm just exploring one hypothetical timeline.</div></div>

Calgary was a seller this year and they will be again next year. Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, and Sharangovich should all be sold as they don't really fit the teams new timeline. They might extend Sharangovich but almost certainly not the other 2. Zary is having a good rookie season but we will see if he can repeat it or continue to improve next year. I have no doubt Calgary will be able to extend both him and Coronato even if they each earn 7M deals.

As for Poirier, players generally don't get lucrative deals after 1 NHL season. I would be shocked if he got more than a 2M bridge even if he does put up 35 points in a 3rd pair role

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Heh. What??? On what basis? And are you counting Kuzy as a cap dump or as something with some value? I cannot imagine anyone coughing up as much as Vancouver paid for Lindholm.

I have all sorts of decent things to offer, but also am fully aware that the Flames may have some cap issues to contend with by the time the summer of 25 rolls around, so prime A assets are probably not going to be on the table. Do you prefer picks, prospects of a certain position, whatcha need?</div></div>

On what basis? He's on a dirt cheap contract, in his prime, has no team control, and is playing excellent. He plays in all situations, has a very high compete level, and plays all 3 forward positions. Unless your 2024 1st or similar quality prospect is on the table he won't be traded to St. Louis this summer. Calgary will almost certainly hold onto him until next year's deadline, then move him to a contender where he will make a big difference. Personally I have no idea why the Blues would be interested, his value is at it's highest right now and they are probably not contending next year either.

Kuzy is 31 years old, was making just under 8M, had requested a trade for 2 full years prior to this one, was coasting on the ice, and was literally placed on and passed through waivers before he was moved at 50% to Carolina. So yes he was most certainly a cap dump.

As for needs. Calgary needs center prospects the most, and high end talent anywhere else the 2nd most. They are also interested in defense prospects, specifically RD. The flames are overflowing with middle 6 caliber players and prospects, especially on the wing and LD. Again I really don't see a fit with STL but my ask would probably start with Stenberg.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Most of those guys (Rossi, Johnson, Eklund, Cooley, Savoie, Michkov, etc) aren't proven yet. Many of the rest are soft or have major flaws (Zegras who at 6' 185lbs isn't small either). Kucherov is proven but he's bigger than most of the others you named and wasn't a 1st round pick, he was a late 2nd. gaudreau was 4th round pick and is incredibly soft. Bedard is an exceptional player and while a bit short he isn't tiny or a lightweight. Raymond (same height as Catton but nearly 20 lbs heavier) is another who really isn't that small. Panarin is a little on the light side but he's not short.

I'd only take Catton if both Iginla and Yakemchuk are already gone. I'm not sure I'd take Yakemchuk over Iginla either but I might if he's still available when the Flames pick. Most draft rankings have Yakemchuk ranked higher.</div></div>

You are not getting my point at all. There are ample examples of smaller successful players drafted in the last 10 years from outside the top 10 in drafts (DeBrincat, Robertson, Kyrou, Kaprizov, Point, Ehlers, Konecny, Aho, Bratt, Farabee, Caufield, Maccelli, Perfetti). Teams are realizing that they are missing out on legitimate talent because they spend too much time prioritizing size. The game is faster than it's ever been so big and slow has fallen out of favor. Catton is arguably the 2nd most naturally gifted player in this draft class in terms of checking all boxes, it's just things like his size that make him fall. Outside of Celebrini he is probably the only center with a legitimate shot at being a true #1
