Leaf trolls here is the only way to get rid of Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>That is absolutely a fair POV but any extension would be made after a trade anyways, when it is signed is less relevant. Gauging what he is looking for in his next deal could either lead to a reality check for Marner or narrow down trade options</div></div>
if im a GM of a contedning team and i acuire marner, and he isnt a 90 point two way winger for me, i would let him walk in FA. imo he is very worth the risk to pay big assets for as a rental but i wouldnt commit long term until i can see that he can have success in whatever system my team employs.
worst case scenerio is you overpay for a 2nd line winger for a year and then get $11 million in cap space in the 2025 off season

Leaf trolls here is the only way to get rid of Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>And with fans/media/team mates/management are making it obvious that Marner is not in the Leafs long term plans, any team that desires him can and will wait until July 1st 2025, unless Marner gets a cash dump trade with zero value. Or requests a trade (unlikely).</div></div>
Marner getting to pick where he'd potentially go does likely limit what the Leafs could reasonably expect for a return, but I think you're wrong in suggesting there won't be a GM wanting to make a splash this summer that wouldn't give up some assets to make their team better immediately and then have the potential carrot of being able to offer an 8th year if Marner's camp is now open to that idea. GMs don't often wait for a player to hit UFA status if they can land the player they want now, especially if that GM is starting to feel their seat get warm.

Top four defenseman not top pairing defenseman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lindholm, Andersson, Power, Jones, and Seider are all absolutely top pairing defensemen</div></div>
People have a strange idea of what "top pairing" means. By definition there are 64 top pairing guys in the league, and most of these guys are definitely in the top-64 defensemen in the league.
Of course, not every team has 2 top pairing defenseman, some have 1, others have 3. But that doesn't change the definition.
"Top pairing" doesn't mean top-10 or top-20.

Another Leafs gm
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>You are expecting a better return?</div></div>
No, I'm expecting to work on an extension. He's not on the block, a typical on the block offer ain't gonna fly. Besides, Minten does not fill a need. Jarnkrok would be nice to have, but not like this. He's also not a need. If Buch goes as things stand, it will be for a package that addresses a real need.

Certainly not arguing that it's a good deal for OTT. Makes no sense for either team imo.

Stupid overreaction marner trade for fun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Marner is literally actively tanking his own value. He is also a rental with a full NTC and Columbus is a bottom 3 team in the league this season. Marner would never waive there and Columbus would never consider a deal like this</div></div>
I agree with your larger point, but they’re fourth overall going into the lottery. Literally not bottom three.

Personally, I really don't like quantity over quality trades like this one. I would prefer the Flames to get one quality piece back for Sharangovich instead.
I can see your logic and I break it down as follows:
IMO, Dvorak is $2M overpaid, Vladar $1M. Taking on $1M x 1 is worth between a 3rd and a 4th.
I don't see Harris adding much value, simply because the Flames have a lot of bodies for the 3rd pairing.
It comes down to Sharangovich + 4th for 1st + Beck + 3rd. I haven't watched Beck play, so I have a hard time gauging his value, but it seems like he's worth more than a 2nd, so the value is about right.
So yeah, I'd like more, but I won't be too upset if this was the return.

Can't see the hawks bringing in a guy just starting an 8 year deal at over 11 mil per. I think they avoid anyone over 10 mil and over 3 years left on the contract. Don't need bedard to see any 11.5 mil contracts coming in before he signs his next deal.

We also want to keep Coleman as he is a good mentor figure for the kids. Kupari is need, he is also not really a center, let alone a top 6 one lol.
Mangiapane is actually the exact type of player Ottawa should want and needs. Also he is not on a bad contract, he is very fairly paid. Gritty, high energy, high work ethic 2-way winger in his prime with nearly every single one of his points at even strength. Has played the 4th hardest minutes in the league amoung forwards and has a positive corsi vs elite competition. He also has an expected goals of over 21 this year so he's been quite unlucky with scoring considering he's only at 13.</div></div>

There isn't a real reason to trade him, so I would say a 1st and Center prospect at the deadline. The draft would be different: probably a top 10 -15 pick, which I don't see happening for a multitude of reasons.
