Offseason
Stamkos signing for 5x3 is not at all likely. At minimum he will sign for like 6x4. Duclair is looking to get paid I doubt he will come that cheap either chasing a cup or looking to regain their value on a 1 year deal. Someone like Beauvillier.
I think Tampa should try and keep Dumba, he won't cost too much to re-sign and he's fit in pretty well so far

Do we still draft Tij
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaun80</b></div><div>That's my dream scenario too, Jersey fans don't like it though</div></div>
It's really just 1. I don't think they would move their pick if it's top 11 but I think it's fair game anything past that.
As for a more realistic scenario. I think Calgary would take Iginla at pick 9+ and maybe still at 8 but only if Catton and Lindstrom are both gone by their pick. I doubt they would choose Yakemchuk or Helenius over Iggy for example

The dream scenario is Jersey is willing to trade their 1st at the draft in a Markstrom deal and it's in the 11-14, we use that pick to draft Tij. Then we use our pick to select Lindstrom or Catton.

Hall won't hurt the team either for the same reason.</div></div>
The cap is projected to be ~92M in 2 years. 5 years from now it will be over 100M. In 7 years his contract will have a similar cap% would be on par to Cole Caufield's. I view his deal as similar to Jeff Skinner. Skinner was brutal after signing that deal in Buffalo but since the team decided to rebuild/retool and the pressure came off him his game really turned around. Huberdeau isn't that different, he's played great since the start of the new year and there is clearly much more swagger in his game

Calgary is projected to barely be above the floor next season right now. If we want to trade Markstrom as well we would be under the floor. Keeping Huberdeau is no longer hurting the team so in this scenario I would rather have the first

Not at the cost of 2 2nds. I would rather just bring back Kylington who wants to re-sign, and/or take on someone's cap dump with an asset attached

Set Up Nicely
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I get that, it's hard to get a good roster player without giving up a good roster player or prospect. Roy and Pesce would be the obvious targets this year, I just don't see LA or Carolina not extending them; they'd be a priority for either team. Minnesota likely isn't moving Spurgeon. Even if Faber makes him expendable, he's already 34, I just don't know that the Leafs view that as a long-term 1RD option. </div></div>
LA really can't afford to keep Roy, I think there is a very good chance he gets traded before the draft for a mid round pick the same way Severson was last year. From what I can tell is that Carolina and Pesce are not close, we could definitely see a divorce there.
Toronto simply isn't going to trade Knies. And because of this Calgary isn't going to trade them Andersson. Toronto just doesn't have enough quality in prospects (if he still counts as one) past that to warrant a player like Andersson, and Calgary is probably more inclined to keep Andersson anyways.
Minnesota probably won't move Spurgeon but they are in cap hell still and his huge contract is not helping them at all. On top of that he becomes far more moveable on July 1st as his Full NMC changes to a 10 team no trade list. I think it is a very real possibility that Minnesota opts to change the direction of their team this summer, especially if they miss the playoffs. And as you mentioned the emergence of Faber has really made that possible. Spurgeon still has a lot of name power around the league. But due to his injury, age, and term I don't think his trade value is ridiculously high. I could see a situation where Minny values the gained cap space and ability to retool more than getting a haul in return for him.

Yes that's exactly what I mean. They played together for 5 years nearly a decade ago. Do they know each other? Yes, but that doesn't mean much. Generally when you are 18-22 years old and just graduating highschool you aren't exactly close with guys 10 and 15 years older than him. It's not like Yzerman ever convinced Datsyuk to leave Detroit

Players sometimes have their official place of residence in taxless states. Again though that doesnt really change my point about Stamkos having no connections to Montreal. He will take a discount to stay with Tampa

Pure pipe dream. Hanifin would never agree to something like that. He will probably sign an extension with Vegas soon at around 7 to 7.5 mill to play out the next half decade with his best friend
Dumba has fit in well and will probably agree to a deal around 4M with term. Easier to just keep him

Stamkos is probably staying in Tampa for like 500k less. the money different after taxes is obsolete and he has almost zero connection to Montreal at all

Flames would want any conversation around Andersson to start with Knies and a 1st, then add from there. Toronto won't make Knies available which means there won't be any trade and Calgary will probably just opt to re-sign him.
IMO the Leafs should be targeting guys like Roy and Pesce this summer if they hit the market. I would even kick tires on Spurgeon

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Augustus</b></div><div>I agree with the last point. I don't think he's redundant at this point. The Flames are given a mandate to try and make the playoffs each year. Mangiapane is a solid veteran who plays a good game. He could probably score a little more than he has this year if he were higher in the lineup, but it's just the way the lines have been set up. Kadri with the two youngsters Zary and Pospisil, and Kuzmenko and Huberdeau together.
If I were Conroy, I would accept Mangiapane for Tomasino, one for one. Honestly, not sure what the deal is with Tomasino, what his ceiling is going to be, etc. But Mangiapane can bring it for a team right now as an all-around forward, and Nashville would be very happy with him.</div></div>
Mangiapane played higher in the lineup for a large portion of the year, he's been far more successful since he was reunited with Backlund and Coleman. The issue is our powerplay has been hot garbage all season, but he's producing better at EV than he did 2 years ago. He is a good player with an excellent compete level but he realistically doesn't fit our next timeline, we would be smart to sell him despite how much I like him as a player. Also Pelletier is a very similar style player to him and Pelts is wasted on the 4th line. I think he would slide into that role on Backlund's line nicely.
I think if made available there would be quite a few teams interested in him

He's been quite good on the third line with Backlund and Coleman, becoming a more overall responsible player. I'd rather re-sign the guy than trade him for Lind and a 2nd.</div></div>
He's probably moved simply due to age and redundancy. But I imagine Calgary will hold out for a better return
