I know it is hard to trade a player who is having success, but you don't get a good package for players who aren't playing well. And, let's face it, Bedard's future success does not hinge on having Kurashev on his wing, they will have no problem finding guys for Bedsy to play with. Although, I would probably swap those players with some that CHI would ACTUALLY have interest in, because I don't see KD having any interest in Harris or Ylonen.</div></div>
I concur on all of your post, Garak - including that Harris or Ylonen aren't of much interest to the Hawks. As much as I like Kurashev, I think he can be traded for real good assets now, just as Dach and the Cat were. We can get short-term FAs in the short term, and have a lot of talent on the come (and yet to come) in the long term. Frankly, if MON substituted Mailoux for Harris and Ylonen, and kept the rest of the deal as stated, I think the Hawks take the deal.

Trade down from 3 OA
Hmmm... This is an interesting idea. My first reaction as a Hawks fan is that no way we pass on Lindstrom if he's there at #3 OA. Then I re-read a review of Catton's prospect profile and WOW... he'd be a terrific winger with Bedard.
At some point, I think the Hawks have to seek elite talent WITH SIZE. Which is why I surmise they'd still prefer Lindstrom at #3 (if he's there).
Gonna be interesting to see what happens on the draft board this year, once Celebrini is gone.

Unfortunately LD is the deepest position in the org so much that they've got LD in Rockford playing the right side right now. Plus Chicago absolutely loves Hayes and the versatility he will bring to the lineup. I think Chicago may be drooling at the prospect of what a Hayes/Bedard/Nazar line might look like.</div></div>
Hi, JK. Saw your good post after I assembled and posted mine... You're a faster typer and your post was better and more concise! Thx

Pens 24-25
Hawks decline. The fit simply isn't there. First, as DangleCat noted, the one area the Hawks are loaded with prospects is at LD. They have Vlasic and Korchinski playing their first years on the left side, now - and they are firmly ensconced there.
Second, a rebuilding team like the Hawks does not give away 1st round draft picks, getting lower round picks in return. They don't need more, lower round picks; they want HIGH draft pricks.
Last, their forward group is where the need is highest (maybe apart from RD), so they are highly unlikely to want to give Hayes up - who himself was a high 3rd round pick in 2022.
This trade doesn't enhance the Hawks future; in fact, IMO, it impairs it on many levels. If Pickering were a RD, maybe there'd be something to talk about, but even then coughing up Hayes and a 1st round pick are probably deal breakers, by themselves...

Yes, the Hawks aren't gonna take on his salary for NOTHING. TOR should either send him to the Marlies (as you suggest) or attach a pick of some kind for the Hawks to take on his comp. At which the Hawks should just simply buy him out. Much ado about nothing, IMO.

The Hawks don't need another LD. It's the one position where the Hawks have a more than healthy supply of good prospects coming into their own.
Now, replace Broberg with Holloway or Akey, and drop Raddysh, and I bet the Hawks would think about it.

Rinzel
I concur with exo... He's really the only high-end RHD in our system, so we'll want to see how he works out.
Gotta say, though, I recently saw him in a few college games in the latter part of the season, and he surprised me. I kept hearing that he was "raw;" "years away;" "needs to learn his position;" etc, etc, etc... Yet what I saw was a big, fast, composed, and confident D - IN HIS OWN END. He made mostly good decisions, even when stressed or pressed by multiple attackers in space or on the boards.
At the offensive end is when he seemed not to know what to do as much - especially when carrying in the puck. He seems to WANT to carry the pick in, but isn't sure how that works - yet.
So, my guess is that you'll have him in Gopherland - for at least another year. When he turns pro, too, he'll likely then also benefit from a year or two in the AHL before coming into the big league.
As a low 1st round pick, the Hawks gambled a bit on his raw potential. They knew he was going to take time to grow his game. Yet it increasingly seems as though the gamble may be VERY worth the risk in the long run.
Enjoy watching him with the Gophers! Cheers

Nylander is turning 28 in May, has a full NMC, and an $11.5M cap hit for 8 years beyond the current season. The only reason CHI should move Jones is to get out of his contract because he doesn't fit their window, not to jump into another one that is even larger and longer. CHI should want young roster players and futures for Jones, and they shouldn't be adding anything or retaining to get it done.</div></div>

Messing take 2
I don't know, Gents; if I'm CHI I'd likely do this. Yes, Dach has some grit lacking in the Hawks' system, but Sammy Savoie and the newly arrived Slaggart may be able to help with that. Plus, it's easier, IMO, to acquire a gritty 3rd line F in general, than...
...an interesting RHD propect who could become a Top 4 defenseman (like Barron). We have VERY few RD prospects in our system now (and Rinzel is likely 3 years away, at least). While I like Crevier, I don't think he's projected as a possible Top 4 RD.
Tuch and Ylonen may not be exciting, but I'd be willing to see if they get more interesting in a year or two while our recently drafted Fs progress through our system.
Staying healthy is always a concern, and Dach is somewhat of a concern in that regard, as well.
Reasonable minds can disagree... This is just the way I lean on this trade.

vgk next season
From a Hawks fan's perspective... I think Marchessault would be a terrific match with Bedard. Without having any concern about the cap ceiling AT ALL for a couple years (and maybe even needing a big contract to reach the cap floor) I'd try to sign Marchessault for 2 years at around ~$8mm AVV.
With Marchessault as Bedard's RW (and Taylor Hall as his LW) the Hawks might not only get a glimpse of how good Bedard really is, but could also really aid in his (Bedard's) getting even better (barring significant injuries, of course). Bedard's ALREADY been terrific by himself, on what effectively has been an AHL team this year.

I don't see what CHI is supposed to get from all this, but don't think it matters... They recently re-upped Foligno for another couple years and are HIGHLY unlikely to trade their "all but named" captain.

Lee with 2 seasons at $7m would cost the Hawks (or any other team) $6.9m to buyout. So the price to trade him could arguably cost the islanders 2 x 2nd round picks or a 1st round pick.</div></div>

Yeah, the Hawks are one of the very few teams who could swallow Lee's AVV. A trade MIGHT be similar to the Bailey deal last year, but the Hawks garnered a future 2nd round pick out of that. The actual cash payout to Lee exceeds $10mm in the next two years (including nothing for the balance of this year if that's when this might happen) - more than double Bailey's cost. I could see a future year 1st round pick being needed to take Lee's hit, as I'll bet a LOT of teams need cap space now to make TDL deals. All IMHO, of course!

THIS. Murph is valuable to the Hawks beyond his play; he also provides structure and guidance to the kids coming in during the early years of the rebuild... The Hawks can't simply throw newbies into the NHL without enough structure; could do much harm to the development of highly drafted, talented youngsters.
So... I agree that only an overpay - and perhaps a big one - will be what it takes to pry Murph away.

Actually, I think the Hagel trade worked out well for both teams. Hagel did turn out well, and TBL's cup run window is NOW. Obviously, the Hawks' window won't re-open for some years from now. I'm excited for our first pick from that trade (Oliver Moore in 2023). The second one will come in the 2024 draft, so we'll see. Plus, we may also get some additional future draft capital or decent 3rd/4th liners out of Raddysh and Katchouk.
It'll be interesting to see how TBL lands Hanifin (if they do) and what they'll have to cough up to get him.
