Savard is not a 5-6. He’s a 4.
3rd most in blocks per 60. Logs a ton of ice time.
Kills penalties. Has won before.
3.5M for that is not bad. It’s not a bargain but it certainly not bad. Who could you sign in the summer for 3.5M on a 1 year deal that’s better than that

Yea but it’s term on a good contract. That’s good lol
Term is only bad when it’s on a bad contract.

There are only 3 defensemen in whole league who are on a UFA contract who play more than Savard (TOI per game)
He’s 3rd in whole league in blocks per 60.
I’m not saying he will get a 1st round pick or that he’s this amazing player. But his contract is not bad for what he brings.
I could see a team sending a 2nd round pick for him. Would likely be a pick around 45-60. Acquiring team gets 2 playoff runs.

Savard is not a bad contract for 3.5M for 1 more year. He’s a #4. It’s a fair contract for what he brings.

He simply isn't a player that gets traded for a 1st. He gets a 2nd on a good day maybe a prospect that is low value. Got to remember 1 terrible analytics 2 injury concerns 3 not going to get the same ice time (almost half of his points are top pp which he may not even get 2nd pp time)</div></div>
Good on faceoffs an can be had for 1M if habs retain
I can see a conditional 2nd that moves to a 1st if the team acquiring him wins 2 rounds
Similar to Andrew Copp to NYR deal

Trading Allen Monahan and a Package for Zegras
Probably not enough for Zegras but if habs can somehow get him without giving up Reinbacher, Hutson, Guhle or our 1st this year I’d seriaouly consider it. Imagine with our first, we also get Catton,Eiserman, Lindstrom with Zegras….that will be a lot of skill which we desperately need
CGY 1st will have to be in.
Harris OR Struble will have to be in
I assume they would want Roy but is try to replace with Farrell or even Mesar.
Maybe an additional 2nd round pick too
I think including Anderson is whishful thinking unless Anaheim somehow wants him.
So CGY 1st
Mesar
Struble or Harris
That would be my best offer for Zegras

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Man Anderson's contract costs more and has an extra year on top. It would cost 2 1sts just to dump him. That cancels out the two firsts. Campbell doesn't cost 4+M against the cap buried.
All the analytics put McLeod over Evans. He may cost 500K more but he is younger and I would say better with more upside. McLeod > Evans.
Allen at 50% doesn't get you a 2nd. I don't have Lavoie at a 2nd either but they are probably still equal value.
Taking out Ceci from the equation, since it doesn't make sense for the Oilers to make any of the above moves, moving Ceci for cap space is not needed. They just keep their top 4 RHD, keep Kulak in the third pair with Desharnais and Broberg will get in every now and then.
This deal doesn't address anything the Oilers need except maybe a back up goaltender. They will be able to find a better, cheaper option that doesn't cost them 2M next season.</div></div>
Campbell can’t play anymore. Anderson at least can play and his analytics are strong. He was mostly snake bitten. Not a great contract but it’s wayyyy better than campbell

Next season
The Arizona trade is so stupid from Montreal POV.
Armia has this year and next year left on his deal at just 3M and you’re paying a pick and good young D to rid yourself of that contract, for 1.5 years where we won’t even really need that cap space.
Why do you need Armia’s 3M in cap space this year…what’s the point.
Just obsessed with cap space but it’s completely useless for us this year and arguable next year too. Just let his contract run out and be done with it

Not sure if that moves to Montreal or status with Edmonton even if he is traded but still value sucks

Then bench him or send him to Laval. You’re adding way too many premium assets just to open up a 4th line wing spot

There’s no point adding picks and prospects tk getting rid of Armia. He has 2 years left and we have tons of cap space or at least can make it all fit and don’t really need cap space. Just let it run off for at least another year and then you can reassess.
No point adding all this stuff for something you don’t really need

Better or worse than last year
This doesn’t really help Montreal even if value is decent. We still carry 2.25M on cap for 2 years minus Lafferty. So realistically it’s only clearing around 1M, and we are take on another roster player at forward which we don’t need. We need to clear roster spots up front.
Two of the main objectives in any habs trade is either A) clearing cap space B) open roster spots for younger players.
This doesn’t really accomplish A and definitely doesn’t accomplish B
