<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>The Oilers 2nd line is doing just fine, it's the bottom-6 that needs an major overhaul.

And I wasn't arguing Kassian's value exactly - he's not even included in the trade above - just taking issue with the fact that Toronto fans, who are typically ignorant of other teams players, saying things like he doesn't have NHL level skills.

As for your comparison to Kapanen, they are both complimentary forwards who need to play with someone who can drive the line, they bring very different elements to the game other then their shared gifts of speed and shooting ability. They are very different players and I highly doubt Kapanen would score more than Kassian if he played with McDavid and Draisaitl. Kassian is at Tavares and Marner levels of production.</div></div>

You should probably stop talking about hockey man. You have said Larsson is a better shutdown defenceman than Doughty and now Kassian is Tavares and Marner level effective. That is just insane man. As for Kap needing elite players, he's on a 50 point pace playing on the 3rd line so that is another blown tire by you. The fact is Kassian is doing fine with two superstars. That is good for the Oilers, enough said. It doesn't mean he's a top line winger, it doesn't mean he's an elite player and doesn't mean he'd be top line anywhere else. Which is why people on here say he wouldn't make the Leafs, I honestly don't know where he'd play on the Leafs, there are too many better options ahead of him. In Edmonton who else do you put on the top line? That is why Kassian is there. And I am sure the Oilers would prefer having him lower in the lineup but really don't have another choice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>No, they're playing him there because he has chemistry with Draisaitl and McDavid. He's been playing on the 1st line most nights since January 1st (about 75% of his 5v5 time was spent with McDavid, Draisaitl or both), and during that time he has scored 14 goals and 16 assists at 5v5.

Let's transpose that onto the Leafs roster:

Matthews: 21-18-39
Tavares: 16-14-30
Kassian: 14-16-30
Marner: 8-22-30

There's no way of knowing how he would perform next to Matthews or Tavares, but to suggest that he wouldn't make the Leafs roster or doesn't have NHL level skills is purely ignorance.</div></div>

Kassian is in a good spot for himself in Edmonton but I think it's also fair to say if the Oilers could find someone better for his spot they'd welcome it. The real issue for the Oilers is they still have zero depth. Their 2nd line isn't very good and their bottom 2 lines are filled with bubble guys that won't make a lot of teams. Which is why everyone on here is saying no to this.

Here is the thing, TO has a tonne of high quality forwards and there are many teams that see that as an opportunity. Kapanen is a 3rd liner in TO but he'd be 2nd line on most teams and 1st on some, possibly including Edmonton. Although I would think they'd put him with Nuge so he actually had a winger to play with. This is the hypocrisy of what you guys are saying though. Kapanen is worth less because he's a third liner but Kassian is worth more because he's on the top line. Both players are in the spots they are in in their respective lineups because of the situations on their teams. To think that is the main issue for evaluating talent is absolutely silly, Kapanen is loads better and more valuable than Kassian. Kapanen is more valuable than Larsson. Not because if where they play on their teams but because talent, age and contracts.
