Rebuilding the rebuild

Oh so it's got to do with the draft penalty or whatever it's called?

What's the incentive for the Senators to trade down in the 1st round of the 2024 draft?

I don't think anyone pays a 2nd for Robertson. And Tanev fully retained likely gets a somewhat better return than that.

That was an original take on a Tanev trade :) I don't think Calgary is interested but it is an original idea.

Marner To LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>PLD never really had a game to rediscover.</div></div>
That's not entirely accurate imo, PLD played great on the same line as Kyle Connor for a good amount of time the past two seasons.
PLD is actually a really solid power forward when he is on his game.

CJ says Nylander is going to get north of 11M
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>JT was not an overpay. It was the market at the time. Matthews and Marner were never overpaid either. They are and have always been valuable contracts because of what they can do. What hurt the Leafs was the pandemic keeping the cap down. To deny that is basically being a flat earther. Had the cap gone up the way it was supposed to the leafs would have been able to add more depth in FA. They could have kept Hyman and others. No one saw it coming and the fact that TO remained competitive was a testament to the management of the team not an indictment. Also calculator boy was Pridham who is still with the team. We all get it, you hate Dubas more than you like hockey but this constant attacking him while he's not even with the organization and blaming him for Treliving's bad decisions is silly.</div></div>
I'm not taking the other guys side here. But since when is it not an overpayment to pay 11mil per to a barely ppg center who is ofc going to be the teams 2nd line C, I mean come on.
And to sign both Marner and Matthews at close to 11 the year after, no those two contracts in a vacuum aren't as over the top as Tavares, but it doesn't take Nostradamus to figure that it's going to be hard to fill out the roster when you're giving out all these deals.
It would have been a tough job even if the cap had gone up as expected.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>1st, 2nd, 3rd is probably enough as is. Jones and Korczak is overkill adding both. 1 of them as a sweetener would do. Horvat and Meier were on pace for 50 goals last year. Horvat got a mid 1st, a mid 1st prospect who doesn’t look like he’s going to be anything special, and beau who’s now a cap dump. Personally I wouldn’t go after Lind myself, we need a 3C if Chytil is done. I’m looking at Kevin Hayes for a low pick.</div></div>
Well ok, but it isn't 1st, 2nd and 3rd though, the Rangers get a likely better 3rd back plus Gilbert who cancels out one of the prospects.
So it essentially is 50% retained Lindholm for a probably late 2025 1st, 2nd and two prospects who don't look like much now. That feels meager to me.
Going after Hayes is an interesting thought, would be alot cheaper and likely a good idea. I'd like Hayes on the Rangers again(?).

I mean you have gotten rid of Demelo and Dillon, but not Schmidt, and replaced them with Carrier and Miller?

Not exactly top of the line assets you're trying to trade Lindholm for there is it?
Highly unlikely Calgary doesn't get a better offer from someone else.

Hanifin would ofc be nice to have, but there are more pressing needs for the Jets imo than ä LHD, and I think Calgary gets a better offer aswell.

I don't get the Seattle trade, is it like:
Larsson for Niemelä + 1st
If so it leaves Tolvanen and a 3rd for Timmins and Robertson.
It doesn't compute for me why Seattle would do that.

Toronto is a win now team. You improved the team depth and didn't trade Nylander, Minten or Cowan. Nice work. 😁
I'd be a little worried in goal, however. But Woll has looked good when he's played for the most part.
Flames fans will want more for Hanifin. 😉</div></div>
I'm not a Flames fan but I too think that retained Hanifin and Dubé probably should fetch slightly more than what is offered here :)

Top 50 Defenseman IMO
I might be a tiny bit biased, but Morrissey should be higher yes?
I mean he is 4th in scoring amongst D-men counting from the beginning of last season up to now.
And he's very good defensively aswell so.

Fowler probably won't work as previous commenters mentioned, but he would be a good add.
Gudbranson though, there are so many others I would rather trade for instead of him.

Why are there so many Leafs acgms out there where they try to trade AHL players and low draft picks for roster NHLers of varying value?
I mean sure, prospects and picks in exchange for bonafide NHLers is not unheard of, but not any prospects and like 5th round picks fetch solid players in return just because you pile together a large amount of picks/prospects.
