So based on that Manson, De Haan, Ristolinen, Chairot, Klingberg, and Braun are most off the table (for now)
Mayfield and Schenn got term so they would be in the conversation along with guys like Roy, Walker, Whitecloud, Severson, Jokiharju, etc.</div></div>
I'd love me some Zach Whitecloud, but he's not yet a consistent 20 minute per night guy, though I think he will definitely get there. Severson is a no-go for me. Has way too many defensive lapses in his own zone. Leafs already do plenty of that thank you very much.

Gotcha, though I think if the package was worth it, both teams would eat salary beyond just this season, especially in Philly, where apparently the mandate is a quick-turnaround, as opposed to the Blackhawks, who seem to be all over the place. I would include those players in your list as well because Dubas is a guy known to target players that either have term left on their deal or are set to become RFAs and thus the Leafs can retain their rights beyond just this season. I'd have to imagine something like Holl, Amirov and a 1st would be more than sufficient with the Flyers retaining money.

TDL 2022
I really like what the Wild have put together as a team and I feel like they are going to swing hard this trade deadline. Claude Giroux is a good pick-up for sure, but I think the swing will be harder, like a Tomas Hertl from San Jose hard and then find a way to extend him immediately as part of that deal. Hertl with this forward group would be insane.

-Schenn is meh, but cheap!
-De Haan would be a decent, affordable buffer.
-Klingberg is going to cost a boatload...is a bigger Tyson Barrie who's underporming really what you want to overpay for?
-Mayfield won't be cheap, and there's talk that Lou wants to roll with the majority of his roster in tact next year because he thinks they're better than their start was.
-Braun wouldn't be a bad depth add.
-Risto...RISTO?!?!
-Chiarot is apparently a guy that you'll have to overpay for even though he wouldn't play top 4 on this team.
As a non-Leafs fan, I don't see the point in going for some of the higher priced guys here...many would cost a 1st(plus) to acquire, and don't raise the ceiling high enough to guarantee a trip out of the first round, especially considering it's lining up to be against either Florida or Tampa. Is there a shot? Sure. Should you sell the farm for it? Meh.</div></div>
Haha Leafs, as well as all other Canadian teams, are on every player's NTC. Didn't you know that?

I mean it happens. I am pretty sure there was a moment when Mats Sundin ever so briefly became a Hab. I just don't think the Habs and Leafs line up here, and honestly would give you much the same answer if you were proposing a Florida-Montreal for Ben Chariot. A divisional team would have to blow the Habs away with an offer.

While I do think all of the deals you've proposed makes Edmonton a better team, at least on paper, you have them underpaying on at least the Habs and Islanders deals.

Deadline
If there was ever a team to swing hard at/by this trade deadline, Vegas would be that team. I could easily see Vegas swinging for the fences and dealing with Arizona for Crouse and Chycrun OR nabbing Tomas Hertl from San Jose and then signing him to a new deal before he hits free agency this summer. Of course, they will need to shed some major cap to do any of this, but when it comes to Vegas, all bets ARE ON :D

LEAFS TRADE DEADLINE OPTIONS 2021-22
Of what you selected there, the only defenders that I think the Leafs could possibly acquire (ie the Leafs and Habs are not dealing) that would provide them with a legitimate upgrade to their top-4 would be either John Klingberg, Josh Manson or maybe Scott Mayfield. I am much more hesitant at the prospect of the Leafs adding Manson or Mayfield because both are not very quick, and the Leafs play a hella quick transition and puck-moving game. It's one of the reasons Holl and, at times, Muzzin, has looked so out of place this season. The ideal fit would be Klingberg I think, or better yet, Chycrun, though both will cost large. Two defenders you don't have on your list are Travis Sanheim (PHI) and Connor Murphy (CHI). I think both of these players would be upgrades over something like Manson or Mayfield, I just am not sure what the cost would be to obtain such players with term.

I don't get it. Why are so many Leaf fans suddenly obsessed with the prospect of the team reacquirring a very slow 6-7 defender? Luke Schenn is not an upgrade to anything the Leafs currently have on their back end.

Ultimate Rebuild
Lundell is having way too great a rookie season for Florida to bite on that deal. As much as I fear that potential blue line (as a Leafs fan meeting Florida in the playoffs), I think Florida is smarter than that. It would cost them a lot less to add rental defender and shore up their back end for this playoff run. I would if there is a deal to be had between Florida and Dallas (Klingberg) that might benefit both teams, provided Florida could sign Klingberg to an extension as part of any such trade.

Edmonton, no question. The gap between McDavid-McKinnon and Draisatl-Rantanen is way way closer than Puljujärvi-Landeskog. If you include playoff success in this equation, it's not even close.

Low Key Deadline
I would certainly not call trading a 1st rounder a low key deadline :P That said. In their own bubble, I don't mind each of these deals, but with how the forward lines are rolling (or were rolling prior to the All-Star break), I wouldn't mess with them even it meant adding toughness, because in doing that, you are taking a more skilled Kerfoot off the second line. Part of the issue the Leafs will face is finding some toughness with a player that isn't a pilon. The Leafs need to find a legit top-4 physical defender that can play the right side and log over 20 minutes. That aint easy to find and will cost a ton. Calvin De Haan is certainly not the answer there. Connor Murphy would be the much better fit if we are talking about a Leafs deal with Chicago.

Big Draft Trades Tonight
For an owner that has been strongly rumored to be ummmm...tight...with his money, I have a hard time believing any Canes GM would get the approval required to trade potentially very great ELC deals (in Jarvis, Suzuki, etc.) for big time players that are coming in hot and heavy with big-time contracts. Plus, Laine is in no way deserving of even his $7.5m qualifying offer.

Tanking
Considering the cap crunch the Leafs are in, I would consider Liljegren pretty invaluable considering his ELC deal and his potential. If the Leafs were to include him a deal, they would need to be getting more back then simply Kuemper (retaining salary or not). If the Leafs could figure out a deal that would include Kuemper, Garland, Crouse and Dvorak, that would be pretty special but I would hate to see the assets the Leafs would have to give up to do it. As far as your deal though, I would say Dermott is way more expendable plus a 2nd should do it for Kuemper.

If you will recall, the Leafs (stupidly) traded Marleau and the remaining of bad contract to Carolina for their 1st (I believe that was 13th overall), so that gives you a bit of a comp idea what the Canucks might be in for to move on from someone like Loui Erickson. If they weren't division rivals, I think such a deal with Seattle would have already happened.

The fact that Jim Benning is still a NHL GM baffles me. Unfortunately, as witty and fun as some of these moves are, I don't think Benning has the foresight to do any of that beyond resigning Pettersson and Hughes to bridge deals, something that is entirely Benning's fault by the way.

If you are giving Barclay Goodrow 6 years at $3.6 million AAV, there is no way Coleman is going to take less term than his linemate or likely take anything less than what Hyman will eventually be getting (somewhere around $5.25 million AAV).

Yikes! That would be an easy yes from Seattle but why then did they not have that deal in place already? Also, giving up Beauvillier would hurt. I'd think it would be much more up Lou's alley to keep him and sign as a pair Suter and Parise. There are other ways this Islanders team can shed some cap space.

On it's face, seems like a lot for Seth Jones plus Korpisalo if you don't have extensions in place as part of that deal (you fail to mention). However, provided the Blackhawsk did work out extensions with both players as part of this move, and those extensions were "reasonable", I'd say that deal is an easy win for the Blackhawks.

If the Leafs got Edmonton's 2021 4th round pick for Hyman's rights I'd be happy considering everything that has happened to this team under the Dubas Administration. Also, a general thought on the Rielly deal. Without an extension in place, the Leafs would likely be able to get AT LEAST that. So with an extension, I'd imagine any team would have to pony up further assets.

Coleman
I am going to assume that looking at the Goodrow and what will likely be the Hyman deal comps, Coleman should be able to fetch between 6 and 7 years at at least $5 million AAV easy. So even if adding an extra $250k means nothing to do this team at the moment, those later years on a Coleman deal, like it will with Goodrow and Hyman should look pretty awful.
