Finally in the playoff
I think Guhle’s deal is going to be atleast 6M$/season, and potentially even close to 7M$. I’d host a Kent Hughes celebration party if he gets Guhle to sign your deal. That’s extremely favourable for the Habs.

Depends if Fowler has any intention of turning pro or not. (For the record, I don’t think he will.)
But, on the off chance he would, they would need to make room for him to play 50 games, and that would make Dobeš expendable.

Although KK’s tenure has been disappointing, I’m sure he still has some value around the league. Wouldn’t CAR be a better team moving KK out and keeping Necas? Even if you “gave” him away, dumping KK’s salary would allow you to sign Necas.

rivals big trade
The Leafs, should they wish to trade Marner, are going to want some serious pieces coming back their way. Marner is an elite offensive winger. You don’t pick that kind of player up for spare parts/prospects when the team trading said winger is a perennial playoff contender.
A Marner trade is a hockey trade. Think Jones - Johansen when it was done.
Acquiring Marner would involve a player like Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher, Matheson… not draft picks, or prospects, or older veterans.

The gang is back in town
I like the idea. I’m just curious if VGK would like that deal. They would only save 1.5ish M$ on the cap. They’re always up against the cap and I would expect they would want to save even more on the cap.
Would the Habs consider retaining on Evans to “help”VGK?

Making changes
I think Evans can fetch at least a 3rd. He’s coming off a career year, a pk specialist, wins faceoffs… there’s some value there.
My guess is that Hughes hold on to him until trade deadline to see how Owen Beck develops. If Beck has a good 1st year in the AHL, Hughes might consider letting Evans go.

Next Year
Agreed that the trade for Kakko isn’t a good one.
I can see the CHI being a decent one. D-Vo would get plenty of opportunity in CHI to build up value and flip him at the deadline. I think MTL has to add value in this and retain 1M$ of his salary. Then CHI can retain on him again at the deadline, offering D-Vo at a (roughly) 1.7M$ cap hit to someone as a depth center with good faceoff abilities. Probably fetches you another 3rd rd pick.
The VAN pick being sent to MTL is likely going to be a late 2nd rd pick, so it’s almost like stepping back a few spots in the draft to get an NHL caliber dman. Works for both teams.

Totally agree with Black61. Tomassino isn’t worth a 1st. He’s worth more than Ylonen, but not that much.
I’m betting he needs waivers to get sent to our AHL affiliate next year. Why would we risk giving up an asset for a player we could simply claim on waivers if we want him?

I’m willing to ride the Monty/Primeau wagon for a while.
That’s a brutal offer for Knight anyways.
Plus, your best dman is a healthy scratch. Kinda hard to take you serious when Guhle isn’t in your lineup.

What pick does Hutson get us
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Why would Montreal consider trading Hutson? That would be horrendously stupid, we have needed an offensive D man capable of putting up 70+ points and one not only falls into our lap but has also developed, grew and excelled at the next level and here you go wanting to replace him with another lottery ticket that could just as easily turn out to be a dud? How is that even logical?</div></div>
I ask the question because I don’t share your opinion that he’s the next big thing.
FULL DISCLAIMER: I haven’t seen him play except at the WJC this year and last. He wasn’t the dominant offensive dman I wanted to see.
I hope I’m wrong and he shatters records, but I think he’s closer on the scale to Victor Mete than he is to Fox/Makar/Hughes.
So if I go with that belief, what would his value be, and what could the return be.
I think if a top10 pick was up for grabs I would do it, depending who’s available at that point. Past 10, I think I’d take my chances on Hutson.

Could Norris be 2C
I think OTT would have to see him as a liability in order to let him go… and I don’t think they do. I think they still view him as a good top6 player and won’t give up on him, especially for that package. If they move on from him, it’ll be a hockey trade, one for one kinda thing.

I wouldn’t do the Couturier trade either, but let’s not use the healthy scratch as an excuse not to do it. If we were in a playoff race and Anderson was playing like this, he’d have been a healthy scratch plenty of times by now.

Passing on the deal, I can understand that.
Wanting one of those three in return? An argument could “maybe” be made for a Necas/Caulfield trade, but for Suzuki or Slaf? What else are you adding to the deal for that to happen?

I don’t see KH making a move like this unless he deems that either he needs the cap space, or doesn’t see a future for Barron in the NHL.
I don’t think he’s ready to throw in the towel on Barron yet, but time is running out.

I’m confident predicting there is zero chance Tre makes that move</div></div>
Anyone who thinks he’s a top4 Dman on a competitive team isn’t a knowledgeable hockey person. But I'll go as far as saying having Savard on a 3rd pairing is a luxury. You have an amazing top4 if Savard is a 5/6 dman.
If he isn’t worth a 1st, he’ll be close to it. He’s an elite shot blocker, he’s elite on the PK, and he can pitch in with some offence on occasion. He’d get significant minutes in TOR’s system, and that shows how bad they are.

3Cs or 60 pts Ws don’t fetch huge packages in return unless they bring another element to their game. Zegras doesn’t have a physical element, he doesn’t PK, block shots, win faceoffs etc. He’s a point producer, not an elite one, but a decent one… and he didn’t produce points this year.
I’m not saying Zegras is getting traded, but if he is, my offer of a 5-10 pick and a sweetener is in the ballpark when you look at these. And remember, Cs are worth more than wingers… and his faceoff stats say he’s better suited for W.

Don’t worry, MTL isn’t interested in giving up that much for Zegras.
Whether you like it or not, if ANH deals Zegras, it’ll be because they feel they have 2 better options at C than him.
MTL won’t be giving up that kind of package for a 3C after a down year.
The max offer that I think could happen is almost a straight up offer of our own 1st round pick (between 5-10) at the draft, and only if the right players are drafted by the time the pick comes around.
MAYBE a little sweetener like a B prospect, or a later pick.
Dach won’t be dealt in any package for Zegras. If MTL wants to acquire Zegras, it’ll be to play him WITH Dach, not INSTEAD of Dach.

By the way, the trade isn’t the worst move in this scenario. For me, I wouldn’t buy out Dvorak with 16M$ of cap space. Waivers/minors is a better move, and absorb him in 1 season instead of stretching this over multiple seasons.

What do you think the return will be for the 7th defenceman of a team drafting 7th overall?
