Move Nylander
Slafkovsky is not NHL ready yet. He hasn't been able to make a huge impact in Finland so there's little to suggest he'd do it in NHL right away.

<strong>Most of you won't believe this story, but I still can't help myself!</strong>
I was at Harbour Sixty this Saturday (it's a restaurant in Toronto).
And I saw <strong>Giordano, Spezza and Kris Letang</strong> eating together.
And I'm pumped AF after seeing this signing!</div></div>

Regardless of any negative comments. This is a win for Toronto for the cap hit. Gio as he gets to play at home. And fans.

Sorry Leafs fans :(</div></div>
Sometimes players just dont work out. Neither Barabanov nor Marchment showed anything till 2 years after signing with us. Still have seen growth out of the guys who remained so who cares
Remember we got a 20+ goal scorer making 950k for another year and a giraffe who is gonna be making less but be able to produce the same as Barabanov so were fine lul

Plenty of examples of small player who play with grit and big ones that aren’t physical. If he plays with an edge his size is irrelevant.

(TOR/VAN) - Dermott for 3rd
Yeah that is about exactly what I expected.
Canucks fans you will mostly like Dermott. Dont fall for the hysteria around him that all Leafs depth D get, he is a good dman. His main issue is that he never grew out of the rookie mistakes phase and took his game to the next level. If he is your 3rd LD you should be very happy with it (and even if he needs to play a few games as a 2d bc of an injury). Btw he is much better on his left, but can pinch for RD.

(TOR/VAN) - Dermott for 3rd
I like this move. We clear out 1.5m, get younger, and gives a player a chance to reset their game under a different system. Bottom 4 Dmen shouldn't have to cost more than 2m, and he comes as a 1.5m cap hit for another year with rfa status. This is rare for us, its a W for us, and helps toronto so is a fair deal.

(FLA/MTL) - Smilanic, 1st, 4th for Chiarot
People tried to deny it as much as they could, but Chiarot was definitely going to fetch a 1st.
It was a heck of a three years, Big Ben, the most polarizing defenseman in Habs recent memory. Eye-test people loved him, analytics people hated him. Truth is, you will be missed in Montréal.
Florida just became even more dangerous for the playoffs.

leaf laugh learn
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>you're underestimating how much negative value Mrazek is adding to that trade. Islanders(hell, pretty much any team) don't want 2 more years of Mrazek getting $3.8M, but these trades don't work unless you get him off the team. Islanders don't *have* to move either guy, and can probably get at least a 2nd+a prospect for each player. If you don't think getting those two guys PLUS dumping Mrazek's contract is worth a mid/late 1st and Sandin, so be it, but the Islanders don't have to just settle for what they can get at this year's deadline for those 2 players.</div></div>
How on earth is dumping Mrazek worth that when you paid less to dump 2 years of a clearly worse (in the AHL) Ladd who made more?
Mrazek is having a bad year, but is a career 1b goalie. I don't deny it will cost a bit to move him, but not that much.

I really like this for the leafs, I'm shocked they only had to give up an late 2nd and a player that wasn't working for good depth options they critically need. It's not a fleece but it's clear who won the trade

Arizona leverage your assets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MadLin27</b></div><div>Arizona needs some talent.
They don't want to finish bottom 5 every year.
At some point you have to surround your young players with a supporting cast.
Thats why I would look into players like Fiala</div></div>
I would say Arizona needs to find talent through buy-low opportunities, like they did with Gostisbehere. Fiala would be more of a buy-high player. Beyond that, they need good leadership and quality veterans to teach the young guys. Fiala is a great player, but that's not his role either.
After that, I don't think they need to worry about finding the best players they can until they start hitting on some of their draft picks and they look good in the NHL. We're still several years away from that. This rebuild has only just begun.

Some creative ideas for DET
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RedWing9119</b></div><div>Is this the same Sean Monahan who's bein outscored by Pius Suter? Oh and Suter's 2 years younger on a much better contract? Picks are going the wrong way my friend...</div></div>
You do realize there is more to value than just the current season. Yeah Monahan has struggled last couple yrs and is 2 yrs older but hes also got 550 more games played, 180 more goals, and 400 more pts. All of those numbers Suter wont reach over the entirety of his nhl career and it is just half way through Monahans if hes able to keep playing til a normal retirement age and injuries dont cut his career short. Every team in the league could have gotten Suter and he ended up going to Detroit which shows there wasnt much interest especially at his price. I dont think its a good trade either way but u are definitely wrong thinking picks should go the other way.

Revisiting Miller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MadLin27</b></div><div>It's quite a bit coming back to Van in terms of quantity.
Just not sure if they are the right pieces.
The 2023 pick isn't great because plenty of other teams would get them a 2022 pick.
If I was Van I would rather get a 2022 1st and a better prospect. That might be just me</div></div>
Yeah, I know they'd rather have the pick be for this year but that's what the extra guys are for in some ways because Kaut is NHL ready and cheap while Ranta has high upside while also being young and cheap. Barron is a pretty good prospect and is NHL ready. He could become a 3-4 guy pretty readily plus he is also young and cheap. So, the Canucks get a lot of cost-controlled young players under contract plus the 1st and, in this scenario, a guy (Compher) that can play multiple positions up and down the lineup and only has one year left on his deal so they can cut him loose if they don't like him. It'll be interesting to see if he goes and, if so, what the return is.
