I went probably generous to get Lundkvist, but look at the line-up... This is what I would call DEPTH!!! The problem for Mtl is going to be the goalies.

Kulak is OK but his salary bust the cap hit. Marc Bergevin is All-In, Byron on a 4th trio brings an edge on a 4th trio, traded he only brings a 2M$ slack under the cap and makes the 4th line ordirary.

Money in my line up is important and the defence needed to get better. So Alzner gone and Ladd in a bottom 6 is better to the team. Otherwise Alzner becomes a 4.6M$ sitting duck as a 7th Def.

If you look at Subban and Galchenyuk, Bergevin never gives more then 2 years for a second contract to his top raising stars. He had a tough time with PK and Galchenyuk but at the end he extends their long term contract with 2 years at a bargain price. Many teams do that.

Bouchard is right handed and a RD for sure.
Zadina is the one I'm not sure, he is left handed and many sites say he is LW but all highlights video are hard to say. He is always well placed and scores as many goal from the left and right side. The Mooseheads have him as a RW in their roster.
Lauko could be lower I agree.
The 2 goalies are without any doughts the top two this draft.

I agree he should get 10 or 11M$, but I assure you he is going to sign for at least 12 and possibly14M$. But from what I know of him, he is going for a lot more then money, so he will chose where he wants to go and probably ask for 12M$.
Over 4 years ago, I was making lineups on the previous site like this one and every one was saying Subban was gonna sign for 6M$ and 7M$ would be outrageous. I was the only one saying he was gonna sign for 9M$.

Habs Shock the world...
There is many options to shed money here:
1. BUF are interested at Schlemko, just have to find the right pick for him and no need to retain salary;
2. Many teams would be interested at Benn like NJD or NYI and again no need to retain salary;
3. Andrew Shaw would help the bottom 6 of VGK but you need to give some picks and take one of their overflow of defensemen. They have Brad Hunt who is short but very good offensively and can play both sides. You might have to retain 15 to 20% of Shaw's salarie to close that deal but great for both teams;
4. Alzner is a tough one with his NTC 7 teams no trade list. I would try a team who tries to get rid of a bad contract like Lucic or Ladd with NYI who will possibly lose two LHD (De Haan and Hickey) through UFA on July 1st. Alzner list would have 23 teams he can be traded to, so who knows. NYI would have to retain salary to match 4.6M$ for Alzner. Get rid of Alzner and gain a bottom 6 winger with Ladd. I think it would be better then keeping Alzner.

With Marc Bergevin as the GM, anything is possible. I made this line up to show what kind of bad management Bergevin is capable of doing. The only big name transaction he's done is Weber vs Subban because NAS GM came up with it and Bergevin had nothing to do.

Why don't you trade Butcher for Pacioretty, keep your money for Hickey and trade a 3rd pick for Brad Hunt in Vegas. at 650K$ he's a bargain and can play LD and RD.
Keep severson and forget about Getzlaf. Keep your money and get a UFA #2 Center:
Stastny @ 6 or 7M$;
Bozak @ 4M$
Riley Nash @ 4M$
and the money you had for Hickey, add it to J. Carlson contract. There is a team out there who will probably give him as much as 9M$. With the parity, he's a taker.

Zacha is your 2nd line center by default. Your C1 should be Hall, C2 should be Hischier and Zacha C3. You hope to get a LW1 with Pacioretty vs a C3??? Other young players you added are too young to know what they will become but Mtl has way too many bottom 6 players. If you need a top 6 LW you need to give a top 6 or a top pair defenseman.
You have to give something to get something.

WHAT MTL NEEDS

WOW, I don't understand why you're trowing this comment. There's definatly something you mist or didn't catch / interpret.
Here a better explanation:
Margin = to get better players, you need to shed contracts of player you don't need anymore and use the new margin to hire new contracts and in this case, many expensive contracts. Hope this clarifies the margin misunderstanding.
If you did not see the move for Eriksson, I don't know if you were old enough to have seen him play in Dallas and in Boston with Claude Julien as a coach where he had a good season and earned his large contract he is on presently. The idea here is Alzner is not as fast and reliable Mtl was expecting of him and Eriksson is not the goal scoring winger Van was hoping for. On my lineup Alzner would be the 8th Def (sitting in the bleachers) but he would be in the lineup if Juoleivi plays in AHL this year or not. Alzner is from BC and would probably waive his non trade agreement or have Van in his list of team he could be traded to. In return they (Van) get rid of his (Eriksson) contract and Mtl gets a winger with potential who would probably be happy to waive his waiver and leave a team who did not appreciate him and come to Mtl with a coach he had success with.
Hope you have a better understanding now.

If we keep the 4th spot on the draft, he is gonna take the best available player regardless of the position. This year has a lot of good players but only the top 4 stands out of the others. The best natural center might be on the 20th spot and might become a 2nd line center at best. For the LHD, Dahlin is the only one who shows he's gonna be a top pair.

BERGEVIN, CHECK THIS ONE!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Can I just say one thing?
You can't just trade players for picks like that. Its a cliche on this site that so many people do and its annoying. Some of those guys have value yes, but not in a "trade for picks" type of way. Except for Benn since he's already pretty cheap. Pending UFA's at the TDL are a different thing because the contract is almost over and teams are just bulking up for the playoffs. But with players with long term contracts......rare rare rare! (just traded for picks that is)
I don't think there is one single team in the league that will take Alzner for even a 7th round pick in 2025. Why? Because they know MTL doesn't want him anymore. Therefore they will make the price to take him off MTL's hands: NEGATIVE VALUE. Alzner may very well be still a decent bottom pairing guy that could help a team but convincing anyone of that is tough due to his crappy and predictable season. Its not about what you paid for him or what you think he's worth. Its about what is the market for a player like that. I'm no expert but if im simply going on what I've gathered and seen, I wouldn't trade for him under almost any circumstance unless another bad contract of mine was going the other way.
That also goes for the other side! Petry is good dman. IF you don't like him, fine. You don't have to like him. Trade him if you want but do it knowingly that he has value and teams would love to have a guy like that. Maybe not for 1st rounder but for another player you may like who is also good! Some teams have a ton of centers that they can afford to trade one for a RHD. See Henrique for Vatanen for example.
So do the hard work of actually trying to move those players for fair value and not just wishing them away and resigning a whole new set of UFA's to big contracts. In reality, we won't be able to do all this. Its virtually impossible. Some of the trades could work but simply trading 20M of contracts away for nothing is wishful thinking.</div></div>
You might be right about ALZNER but you are so wrong about everything else. Good luck day dreaming, I have to give it you, you have a great imagination.

I went trough the PK deal. Bergevin gave him 2 years at 2M$+ instead of going for 6M$ for 12 years. 2 years later, PK got 9M$ for 8yrs.

I agree that you've probably overvalued ROR and could hold onto Drouin. You've overpayed for Nash ($1M) and probably are $1.5M high on Carlson, especially if you're giving 7 years. On Stastny, if you're willing to give $7M, then you're way long on term. Try 3 years.
I am not convinced that Hanifin is the next Bobby Orr the way that some Carolina fans do. My inclination would be to trade Pacioretty for a top 4 LD (Shea Theodore, maybe?) and keep Chucky on the LW.</div></div>
All you're saying makes perfect sense but would not be enough to convince a player to come to Mtl. Mtl is like the Bermuda triangle: Income tax, Climate, Agressive medias.
There is a team who will offer 6.5M$ or 7M$ for 5 years to Stastny, Nash will stay in Boston for 3.5M$, Carlson will be offered 8.5 or 9M$ for 7 years.
Alzner should have been signed for 3.5M$ max, but Mtl had to give him 4.6M$ to convince him.
Remember how Ladd, Ericksson and Okposo got overpaid IOT get them.
