This is why MTL has the most Toxic fanbase. Team has a young player in a slump so they become an instant trade when 6 months ago he was the next best thing for the franchise, like pick a side. Sometimes its so frustrating seeing how other fans act.

I think it’s implied, if any price trade happens, it’s because people are confident that he has already returned to form in which case there is not as much risk.
A healthy Price playing up to his standards at 5.5 is well worth that package. If price doesn’t return to form, the trade doesn’t even happen

Maybe not a 1st, but he's terrible defensively. Erik Gustafsson was capable of scoring 60 points in a season, but he's terrible defensively and has a contract of $800k. Barrie is not a good Dman and overpaid for what he provides.

I’m starting to want as well to pick a D in this draft. With the forwards not looking as strong as in other drafts, I don’t mind stacking the D prospect pool with someone like Jiricek or Nemec. One of those + Guhle, Mailloux, Romanov is a really strong core to build around.
Next year, tank again and hope to get one of Mitchkov or Bedard. In addition, hopefully get an additional 2-3 first round picks this year and next year combined. In 2 years, you start to have something that makes a lot of sense. The D prospects have had time to develop a bit more, Suzuki Caufield enter their prime, Primeau is ready to go as a number 1 or at least share the duties. With all the other prospects, and the players traded away at this years deadline and next, you can have something nice
Suzuki Caufield
Guhle Mailloux Nemec/Jiricek
Primeau
Plus 2 other first round picks and other prospects

Habs obviously overpaid by giving a first and second from him. SO my philosophy is trading him asap, saying it didn't work out in MTL, before teams realize hes actually a 3rd liner. Try and salvage that first round pick back for him.
I can't see his value going any higher than it is if he continues to play on this roster. Im sure there are a couple teams who need center depth.</div></div>
That's fair. He certainly isn't what I thought he was. Bergy got desperate and got shafted. They'd be in a much better place with an extra first rn.

Selling the team again TDL
I love when people say that the Canes messed up the offer sheet. The Canes the ride to trade for KK before going the offer sheet route, and the trade price the Canes were offering? A first round pick, a third round pick, and MTL’s choice of any one prospect that is not named Seth Jarvis. The Canes got KK for cheaper than they were willing to trade for him. So no, they didn’t mess up the offer sheet, they won it. The only bad thing about KK game so far this season, has been his offense, and it isn’t like he is not trying.
I look at KK’s transition period like I did with Markstrom. Markstrom was bad last season, but he has played incredibly this season. KK is very likely going to break out next year, in my opinion.
In terms of Trocheck, I am not quite sure if he is going to return or not. I do believe that KK will end up as the 2C next year, with Trocheck likely on another team. I would not be surprised if the Canes went and made a big splash at LW this off-season, or even at this TDL to push for the cup.

Selling the team again TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>QualityTrades1</b></div><div>That’s fair but I think that idea holds merit. What if the Hurricanes could trade KK and Gardner to a tanking team for a valuable asset. Say like Oloffson (maybe Carolina adds a little, but you get the point).
Side note: also fine keeping KK. I think he’ll do well here</div></div>
A few issues with trading JK:
1. I highly doubt we keep Tro. He will be one of the best Cs available on the free market this offseason. Teams like Seattle, Arizona, and Buffalo are in need of a real center and teams like Boston, Rangers (maybe), etc will need a good 2C. Tro, Hertl, and Kadri will be well sought after and I doubt Tro would stay at a discount.
2. Kotkaniemi is being hampered by having to play 4C. If he would have gotten comfortable at LW, his stats would look different a 2LW and averaging 3 minutes more a game. He didnt look out of place last night when we had 17 minutes. That was also the first night he had scoring wingers too.
3. JK needs one long offseason to really break his skating down that he hasnt had yet. His first off-season he had a lower body injury that prevented him from working on it and then the NHL has had 2 COVID shortened off-seasons. I would hate to "give up" on him when next season could really start his breaking out.

An error in the offer sheet? A 21 year old kid who’s played 27 games in Carolina. Why are we talking in defined terms here?
“ We are trying to help CAR money wise here, and we originally wanted to draft KK”
Why does this help Carolina with money? BTW, when you actually analyze the move, the extra cap dollars that were added by the 6.1M actually allowed the Canes to fully utilize Jake Gardiner’s LTIR move and savings. This is something very important people forget here. If they needed help with the money, they wouldn’t have made this move. We pay our bills.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Korax</b></div><div>Boyd plays better than KK and this trade will allow CAR to make TDL trades with the money saved. It okay to accept the fact that you made an error with this offer sheet</div></div>

People will gripe here because everyone over 30 with a $5M or higher hit is a cap dump, but you simply don't move Price without a significant return, especially with that much retention. If that means keeping Price, so be it.

habs realistic deadline
I don't think Holland will give up his 1st round pick for a rental. However, if he did, I'd prefer to see him unload Koekkoek and Shore on Montreal. Chiarot could help the Oilers in the playoffs, and then he'd likely enter free agency and sign somewhere else. For Edmonton, including Koekkoek and Shore opens up roster spots and cap space next season and with luck that creates opportunities for Holloway, McLeod, Broberg and Samorukov. For Montreal, Koekkoek might provide decent depth on their blue line, and both contracts can be completely buried in Laval is necessary. It seems to me that, from Edmonton's perspective, unloading depth players with term would take some of the sting out of paying a 1st round pick for a playoff rental.
