LAs return to contention
I think it takes more than that for Tarasenko....but not what Blues fans seem to think, it's not 3 years ago

It's not a bad idea, but I agree that it's doubtful. I think they liked the Muzz/Holl combo. In that scenario though I'd lean more toward Dermott being the guy for that. Not just because I'm a fan of Dermott and think there's more offence there but also because of TL. Watching Liljegren in the NHL this season (granted a small sample size), he looked to me like a guy who definitely needs more NHL time, but didn't look ready to be handed a full time NHL role. I'm not sure what TL's waiver status is, but if he's able to move freely, I could see him going back and forth between the Marlies and Leafs a lot this season

I won't say awful...but I don't think that makes Arizona pull the trigger. They'll likely get a bigger offer than that.

I think they'd definitely be interested at $1M...if they do bring him back, I think that likely signals the end of the road in Toronto for Dermott. They need to find time for Sandin this season and I'm not sure about keeping Dermott around just to be a #7.

Toronto whats your thoughts
Sorry, but Leafs decline. Far too much risk associated with Tarasenko. He's not performed and barely played for the past 2 years...and can walk for nothing in 2 years.
For the Leaf fan above (Kitch), Sammy Blais isn't really someone to target as any kind of difference maker.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Take it from a pens fan, the only time u miss draft picks is around draft time..lol.
Teams that are in the SC hunt and competitive every year, don’t have prospect development as a top priority. Although it is important. But like u said, u only have a certain window to go for it.
Once it closes, the franchise just has to tank right. Trade off every asset on the team. And get 3-4 years of top 3-5 picks. The franchise is back.
U just can’t have a top 3 pick and then next season barley miss the play-off or have a .500 record and Draft in those 8-16 spots.
That’s where all the busts and mistakes are made. You want to stay out of there. It’s not a good place to be. Either in the play-offs, or tank, thats what fans should be hoping for now.
But yes, the Leafs have to go for it with Matthews. He has to get a Cup. He’s a superstar.
I did an ACGM where the Sens should trade Stuetzle, Pinto, the 10th overall pick and Murray’s contract for Eichel. They were all so pissed. Lol.
They do want to give up Stuetzle. IMO, Stuetzle isn’t Eichel. Eichel is another one of those elite guys, 80-90 point player. And not knocking Stuetzle, he’s great, just not one of those elite guys in my opinion.
But anyways, a true 1C would stop the Sens rebuild and have them as a contending this season, Tkachuk/Eichel/Batherson,
C.Brown/J.Norris/E.Dadonov,
Formenton/Tierney/C.White,
N.Paul/sign Cizikas/A.Watson.
Plus: Chabot/Zaitsev,
Sanderson/Zub,
Brannstrom/JoshBrown.
They still would have a ton of cap room too to sign a goalie and NHL depth. That team competes right now and for the next 5-8 years. You have to make that trade.
I think the Sens fans are so enamored with their prospects and the draft. That they like the draft process and prospects more than winning and winning a SC.
You can’t fall in love with draft picks and prospects when u have a play-off team and a window. You have to go all-in. And worry about the rest as it comes.</div></div>
No one's concerned about the future if you're winning in the present.
As a Leaf fan, I know all about the uselessness of being middle of the pack. So many years of not committing to a real tear it down and suffer rebuild....just keep on barely making or barely not making the playoffs. Just drifting in nothingness when you do that.
I really like Stutzle too and the Sens do at least have the benefit of being nowhere close to the end of their window, so they don't have to do anything rash. But you're right, Eichel is a different level and players like that don't come available all that often...provided he's back to full health. I know all too much about disc issues too. Not fun at all...and you may never be quite the same again.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TooMalevolent</b></div><div>That's one, shortened year. But your overall point about him getting more does seem to be what's out there.</div></div>
I really hope Hyman does get less than RNH, increases the likelihood of him staying, and that certainly could be the case but I wouldn't count on over $1M less. Similar for Bogo, I don't think he did anything (or didn't do) to cause him to earn less this upcoming season than last season ($1M last season). Maybe he'll take a discount, I hope they all do lol, but not something I'm counting on.

Absolutely agree on Skinner. He's not going to live up to that contract, just not going to happen. But playing him with 4th liners guarantees you get absolutely nothing out of him....possibly worse than some guys you could get for league minimum. But play him with guys who have offensive talent and he'll still fall short of being a $9M player, but maybe he performs like a $4-$5M player rather than being a waste of a roster spot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>No way u get ARI to retain 1.1M for 5 seasons. And just get joey Anderson and a 1st back.
Probably gotta give them Amirov and a 1st for them to retain for 5 seasons. You get a 3C for 5 seasons at 3.3M. Atleast Niemela and a 1st.</div></div>
4 seasons, but the point remains true. Getting them to retain salary would likely be the difficult part. I do think pretty close to all picks and prospects have to be in play with the Leafs this offseason. This a make or break up the band kind of season coming up with Matthews only being under contract for 2 more if this upcoming season isn't a real success.

Galchenyuk was a fine compliment to JT & Nylander....and they will need to go the route of discount options unless they're willing to move one of those big contracts. I don't know if they do that this season.

I've liked Vince Dunn since his Junior days, but if people were unhappy with Rielly....I think Dunn would fare worse and that cap hit isn't much different
Coleman could be a great add.
Funny, when I played around with this a few weeks ago I had Gagner signing too lol....basically just the JT connection for me...and the fact that I'm sure he'd be league minimum

I'd love Hyman at $4M, but I think he's getting more than that.
RNH - 52GP - 16G - 19A - 35P - 0.67PPG - 8 years @ $5.125M per
Hyman - 43gp - 15G - 18A - 33P - 0.77PPG
