<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tupty</b></div><div>This would be a bad deal for the Bruins. If you don't follow them closely, the Bruins view Swayman as being on a trajectory similar to Oettenger, even though he admittedly is not the same player yet.

The 1st rounder is a great start, but not enough. The prospect does not fit the Bruins biggest position of need (C) and is not trending to be a top 6 NHL winger at this point (according to Dobber), so there is not much value there. Vanicek coming back the other way for next season would be a cap burden with Bussi likely ready to be a low cost backup/1B next year if one of Ullmark/Swayman leave, and so including Vanicek would likely increase the cost to NJ. The Bruins aren't giving up their most valuable goalie and around 2.5m in cap space just for a late 1st rounder.

NJ should give Schmid another year and see if he can become the 1A. Vanicek is a fine 1B. And if Schmid isn't quite ready, Ullmark for a year might make more sense given his much lower trade cost and similar current level of play. If Schmid falls apart, then I'm sure Swayman can be had, but I think the price is going to be much higher than what you proposed, and sending a goalie back to the Bruins probably won't work unless the deal is sweetened even further.</div></div>

Very fair take here. I do wonder if the relationship soured at all with the arbitration but Id imagine Bruins hope to lock Swayman down long term regardless.

I do think how the B’s look this year will be a big factor in the future. Obviously there will be some dropoff after last year but the question is how much. If they are still good/decent there is no reason to move Swayman. Even if they are mediocre and around the wild card hunt I dont see them moving him.

The real question is what do they do if they are bad. Like way out of playoffs bad. Part of being good for so long like they have is the fact that the prospect pool isnt very deep. Swayman would be one of the biggest trade chips they have available and if they can get a huge return it will have to at least be considered. Rebuilding sucks (trust us in NJ) but ripping off the bandaid and trading good players in their prime for big multi-piece returns can help expedite it.

Building off the first, it might be tricky for NJ to find the right pieces in a Swayman deal. While the Devils have great center depth at the NHL level there is really nothing in the prospect pool at that position which the Bruins certainly need.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>What’s the criteria? Got guys like Broten, Shanahan, Verbeek, who like Muller, started here and moved on. Guys like Mogilny, Fetisov, Gilmour, Jagr that were part timers. Are we counting KC and Colorado legacy guys like Lanny MacDonald, Wilf Paiement?

Some names to consider for bench
1) Petr Sykora
2) Taylor Hall
3) Dougie Hamilton
4) Coaches Lamaire and Robinson
5) Travis Zajac
6) Sean Burke (if he hadn’t been such a weenie)
7) Bill Guerin
8) Tom Kurvers
9) Jesper Bratt</div></div>

Ha sorry probably should have included a little description with what I was thinking.

Im basing off their time in NJ. So for example a guy like Jagr wouldnt be on it because his only season here was 43yo (even though he actually was pretty decent).

From there, tried to build an actual lineup as if I were making a team to compete for the Stanley Cup. So a guy like Hall is left off because I value him lower than Kovy, Elias, and Parise as a LW and I don’t think he fits a 4th line.

Couldn’t hammer down a proper 4LW, dont love Muller there.

Put some thought into combinations, went with the EGG line but A-Line could work as well. Just feel that Gomez and Gionta were more talented and had better Devils tenures than Arnott, Sykora, though it isnt a massive gap.

Felt bad leaving my man Travis off the list. He had a great Devils tenure. Just a lot of really good 4C types that might play that role better than he would.

Id go Lemaire for coach, his (almost complete) turnaround of that dreadful 10-11 team cements him for me. Love Larry too though.
