Realistic 24 Offseason NJD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MartysBetter29</b></div><div>I hope we don’t give up much as I’m not a big Markstrom guy but I feel Fitz is gonna feel pressure. I’d rather not give up Holtz, I’d like to see him under a different coach before we give up on him. Think Marky will get a 1st, anything beyond that will probably depend on the market and how many teams are bidding for him.</div></div>
If a trade goes down, it’s likely to be after July 1st, when Markstrom gets a big bonus. So any picks are likely 2025 and later.
Also, if Saros is in the running, he can extend starting July 1st too, so I doubt Nashville moves him a few days before that window opens.
If Fitz gets pressure to move the 2024 1st before the draft, it would have to be much more enticing (like Markstrom plus VAN 1st for #8-12 pick…or maybe later pick attached if retention included). Otherwise, he will wait until summer.
Just my guess.

Waaaaay too much for Markstrom.
The rumored trade during season was Holtz for Markstrom with some retention. Unlikely price would be this much in off-season, especially since he blocked a trade to LAK, but agreed to trade to NJD.

value is fine for CGY, little low but still possible. I think its more likely they want young players than picks (Siegenthaler, Bahl, Holtz etc...) but who knows.

Yeah pass on giving up all that for markstrom.
Wouldn't do that even with 50% retention

Saros
Trotz spoke a little about his conversations with Fitzy the other day and said something along lines of…”I keep telling Fitzy, he needs the goalie, not me”. (Am guessing Fitzy wants Trotz to take Vanecek back)
So at first glance, I’m guessing 2-of-5 pieces being goalies in the return may not work. But the rest would probably be enough.

How to handle the goalie situation
Comrie has played like the second coming of Carter Hutton, who may as well have been legally blind for the last two years of his Sabres contract. He’s played one decent game this season where he got a win. The rest of the time he has been a liability. I doubt he’s the answer for New Jersey anymore than he was in Buffalo.

I agree. Only unwanted goalies are available in-season. Maybe a guy like Vladar at deadline. But unlikely anyone better will be available without moving assets.
Best to save ammo for better option over the summer.

I wish all good things for Blackwood…but as long as Fitzy is here, I don’t think he would be welcome back.

All-time NJD Lineup
What’s the criteria? Got guys like Broten, Shanahan, Verbeek, who like Muller, started here and moved on. Guys like Mogilny, Fetisov, Gilmour, Jagr that were part timers. Are we counting KC and Colorado legacy guys like Lanny MacDonald, Wilf Paiement?
Some names to consider for bench
1) Petr Sykora
2) Taylor Hall
3) Dougie Hamilton
4) Coaches Lamaire and Robinson
5) Travis Zajac
6) Sean Burke (if he hadn’t been such a weenie)
7) Bill Guerin
8) Tom Kurvers
9) Jesper Bratt

Last small move
I like this move a lot. It give us flexibility and at Zach’s age, he won’t be playing 82 games so the kids will have plenty of chances to get playing time and potentially take his spot.

That top 6 is tremendously scary. I See Holtz getting consistent minutes in the middle 6, and Foote finally cracking the lineup. You'd still have Lazar to fill in if things don't work out, and you can add at the deadline.
Miller also ensures that Nemec stays in the AHL for another year, but it was a great add for a 5th.

Bottom of the roster is filled with vetw, who give some physicallity, expierence, leadership. Top 9 is all about talent, and there are plenty of good enough prospect in AHL, who just wait for roster spot and are 3 years younger than Tyce.

2024 TDL
I could see the Wild making that trade at the TDL if they are out of playoff contention. I think it would also depend on what Boqvist's next contract is to make the money work.

QOs to keep space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MartysBetter29</b></div><div>Sheesh. I dont know how I was so off on Hartman’s slotting in the Minnesota lineup. Watched a lot of his game and love what he brings (and how he owns Binnington) but for some reason thought he was playing more of a middle 6 role. Yeah probably wise to hold on and see what comes at TDL. I do think he would be a great complementary 3rd line piece on NJ so maybe theres a fit there but also a team with less depth who views him as a 2nd line player may be willing to pay more.</div></div>
Well in fairness, he shouldn't be a 1C and middle 6 is where he belongs. If it's a team that has cup aspirations, he'd be a good pickup for a 3rd line and can play up or down as needed depending on injuries.
Wild just dont' have anyone that's a real 1C. Ek is a better C, but he just doesn't work with Kaprizov very well. Hartman is a good trigger man with a sneaky good wrist shot and can play a pest role, so he'd for sure have value at his cap hit come TDL.
Keep an eye on him as the season kicks off - NJ would be an interesting landing spot.

QOs to keep space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MartysBetter29</b></div><div>Probably correct that deadline might make more sense. If Minnesota is still in it guessing they’d prefer to keep him.
Only risk is if the season goes poorly for him/the team return might take a hit. But guys like him are always in some demand around playoff time.</div></div>
Yeah I think that's a gamble they're ok with - they let Dumba walk because they wanted him for playoffs, so I dont' think Guerin gets overly concerned about maximizing trade pieces.
Hartman plays 1C for us with Kaprizov, so assuming he stays healthy, he should be pretty productive just by way of that. I think if they're clean out of a playoff spot, he'll get dealt. If not, I could see him staying and just take the L on trade value.

I don't think he's available until TDL for anything less than an overpay. He'll be a great TDL target for teams though.
Assuming he tracks for another 25-25 type of year, I would expect MN can get a 24 1st or a 2nd + good prospect. He's dirt cheap, plays wing and center, has some bite and can slot up and down the lineup.
