Mason McTavish
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Nice homer bias showing through there. You speak of Slafkovsky as if he weren't the first overall selection in his draft. Moreover, the age difference between them is 14 months, not the two years your "21 year old center" and "19 year old winger" implies, and although Slafkovsky has played in about 80% of the games McTavish has appeared in (110 to 149), he has fewer than 60% of the points.
You asked a question implying that McTavish has little value. I refuted your premise. Giving up McTavish makes sense only if we get Macklin Celebrini or Artyom Levshunov in the draft.</div></div>
I wasn't trying to say McTavish has no value, but that his value isn't a 23 year old with 55 points in 71 games and a top 7 pick.

Mason McTavish
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Well, let's see: he has as many points in 60 games as Juraj Slafkovsky has in 71, he plays center and is better defensively than Caufield or Slafkovsky despite being younger, and he has a face-off-winning percentage of 52.2, so he'd be a much better #2C than Kirby Dach. Which is why we won't be making this trade, because if we miss on both Celebrini and Levshunov, we'd much rather have our own first and McTavish than Caufield and your first.</div></div>
Wow, your 21 year old center has the same amount of points as our 19 year old winger, so impressive!
Not saying they're everything, but as someone who doesn't watch McTavish I can't say whether he's better defensively or not, but as per https://www.data-driven-hockey.com/ 's advanced stats which I subscribed for, Caufield has a -0.02 GOA/GP (goals over average per game) defensively, Slaf is -0.08, and McTavish is -0.11. Gonna say it again, those numbers aren't everything, but it's a fair outline of a players abilities. And another stat that has some say in a player's defensive ability (but more a team stat) +/-, Caufield is -6, Slaf is -18, McTavish is -24...
Not gonna argue about the faceoffs, you're most likely correct there

no, just no. What is so special about McTavish to make him worth Caufield AND a top 7 pick?

good player with a massive cap hit and a concerning injury history, that's a move that sets the team back years if it blows up in our faces.

Trade back and trade Jarry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>Habs likely consider that trade... Depends on who is available at that rank.
That Calgary pick has the chance to HIT next year or in 2026 depending on the condition. I'd hate to lose on Misa or Mckenna to get Tij Iginla.</div></div>
the conditions on that pick make it very unlikely that it's a high pick. It's the better of Calgary or Florida's 2025 1st if NEITHER are in the top 10, it's Florida's pick if Calgary's is in the top 10 and Florida's isn't a lottery pick (top 16), but if Florida's pick is a lottery pick then it's Calgary's 2025 1st unless it ends up being 1st overall. In that case, it's the better of Florida's or Calgary's 2026 1st plus Calgary's 2025 3rd.
But since Florida are good, odds are their pick isn't a lottery pick, and the pick ends up being Calgary's if it's not top 10, and Florida's if Calgary's is top 10.
There's also the <strong>option</strong> to take Calgary's 2024 1st if it's 20th or later, but that doesn't seem like it's gonna happen
Hopefully I didn't misunderstand that, the conditions on the pick are rather confusing

don't think it's bad value for Montreal, but Arber is so unique that I would find it hard to believe that they'd trade him for 2 23 year old forwards who have less than 100 nhl points combined

really like the Krebs - Barron swap, personally I've started to lose hope in Barron being anything more than a Tony DeAngelo type player (PP specialist that you can't fully trust in his own zone)
I really like the idea of Lundell too, love Xhekaj and it would suck to see him go but as you've been saying, he's likely our 5/6 dman in a few years, and Lundell could be a Danault type player with more offensive upside if it works out, and that's worth moving Arber for

ANA seems steep but i think its close but you swap out for McTavish's Junior and Team Canada Teammate Beck with Masar.
Harris to BOS for less then a 1st is a no go. We're not doing everyone a favor but ourselves sending him home to play. We can get more by waiting til summer.</div></div>
edmundson's spot will open after the season, probably make the armia trade after july 1st

Maple Leafs 2024-2025 - NO MORE LTIR
timmins is 25, barely an NHL defenseman, and makes more than league minimum, I wouldn't be surprised if he cleared waivers. I don't see Kampf getting much of a return, an idea I thought of was Kampf to Pittsburgh (Dubas connection) for Lars Eller, and then Toronto can flip Eller if they don't want him. Eller only makes 50 thousand more than Kampf but is older and has a shorter contract, I'd think he would cost less to dump than Kampf

Jarry 24-25
I think detroit would have to add to holl in that, purely because he's signed for longer and Montreal don't have a need for him. Armia has been quite good this season, maybe that brief stint in the AHL fired him up because he's been way better than he has been since signing that contract. Still not worth the salary but he's more valuable to Montreal than Holl because we need NHL forwards more than defensemen, and the shorter deal would open up money sooner, and the cap flexibility that comes with Armia a year sooner than Holl is probably the most valuable asset in the deal

I wouldn't say that all of them are ready. If they were Laval wouldn't be fighting for their lives to make the playoffs right now. Guys like Mesar, Beck, Farrell, Heineman, etc. probably could play in the NHL right now, but saying they're "ready" is a stretch imo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Except to waste an asset when you can just keep it and draft him if available. Why help another team when you don't need to?</div></div>
because if he won't be available then it's guaranteeing we get his rights, and giving a team in the other conference a 7th is harmless, sure it's "helping" but it's not something you'd do without seeing a benefit to your organization. If management thinks he's worth bringing in, then giving up a 7th for him is fine. Plus, Montreal have 3 7ths this year, so if there's players Montreal want in that range then they can use the other 2 7ths to get them

Is this fair for Zegras Be Honest Please
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Stop overvaluing draft pick just because it’s labelled as a top 10 pick. The 24’ draft is incredibly weak. The top 5 is good, 5-10 is slightly above average, and after that it falls off quite a bit. Zegras is ABSOLUTELY worth a top 10 pick in this draft, heck arguably worth a top 5 pick (outside of Celebrini).
As for this offer( it’s not enough. Not close. Moving Anderson takes at minimum the 1st and 2nd just for future considerations, so basically the offer is Barron, Ylonen and a 3rd for Zegras which isn’t even in the same city let alone ballpark for a deal.
Whether you like Zegras or not, he’s still a top 6 centre with potential to become an elite offensive 1C. Those are very hard to find and generally you draft one and keep them. So if one was available on the trade market, it’s going to cost you a premium. Think quality over quantity. Anaheim is in a bit of a weird stage where they’re not tearing it down for the rebuild but they’re acquiring assets to move the rebuild along. So best case scenario it’s a 1-for-1 swap of another guy struggling at a different position - but the more likely option is a young roster player with upside, a 1st round pick in the 15-32 range, and another prospect at a position that Anaheim would need.
From Montreal, that package is likely:
1. Either straight up Zegras for Slafkovsky
2. A package of Guhle + WPG 24’ 1st round pick + Beck (or similar prospect at different position)</div></div>
personally, I wouldn't trade Guhle for Zegras 1 for 1. Guhle is the only guarantee going forward on our blueline, for a we know every prospect in our system could bust, I wouldn't trade the only one that's proven to be a top 4 defenseman for a forward when our forward core is currently stronger than our defense

I don't hate that trade for the habs, rodrigues could be a good middle-six forward until the young guys take over, and moving 2 defensemen off the roster is a must for Montreal this offseason

the habs should do this if it's a possibility.
Lucius is point-per-game in the NCAA for the 2nd season in a row, a 2nd rounder is a good prospect or trade piece, and Eller can be traded, bought out, or a roster player for next season. I'm at the point with Barron where I don't see it working out, might as well get value for him before we can't, and this is exactly that

just because we need top end talent doesn't mean we can't take a shot on a depth piece. Odds are that 7th rounder won't become anything to begin with and if he's better then what's available in the 7th round then there's no reason no to do it
