Big yikes to the Leafs deal. Andersen for a D man that is overpaid and doesn't move the needle at all.

We're kidding with that Marner deal, right? Like there has to be a joke I'm not getting.

Don't hate it necessarily, but Dubas would have to be certain Walker is the solution to the RHD problem and that he can play top pairing for a full season. I'm not overly confident he is that guy.

A non fans attempt at the FIX
Not trading Marner for a prospect, definitely not trading Marner for a LHD prospect. Poorly thought out.
You've made the team worse and blocked the teams top prospect on the depth chart (Sandin).
Just makes no sense.

Commenting just to say that Spezza will not be leaving Toronto. He has publicly stated he wants to stay and that money doesn't matter to him.

I'm convinced he doesn't play another game for the Leafs. So either injury or trade.

Now is when we should sign Gardiner
Mirtle has been quoted saying he's received offers but there are things he's waiting to fall into place (but he wouldn't specify).
Gardiner will sign. And he'll get a multi-year deal with a solid dollar value. The proposed offer is insulting.

Priority one is absolutely to retain Marner. But IF a situation like this occured, Gusev would be a must target for the Leafs.

SJ - TOR Blockbuster Trade - Marner for Labanc Package
It's just poor value for Toronto. If Marner is moved, an impact, young, #1 D would likely be in the package. If not, then a young forward of high quality +.
Don't see a deal to be made between these two teams, but you should be including your best trade chips. If I don't see Meier/Couture it's an easy no.

Sharks trade Prospects for Kapanen and Horton as Leafs Make Room for Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>That's my point though. There's a quota for these sort of things. Some organizations are extra stingy (i.e. Sens), while others such as the Leafs are less so given their following and income, but even they look out to save whenever possible with these things.</div></div>
There has just been absolutely zero indication with any of the Leafs moves for years, that they care about the salaries of the players. And they surely have no history of losing a trade to move salary. It's 100% about the cap hit for the Leafs, and Horton has no effect on the cap. He's not a negative or positive value for us. He's just there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>1) There's 5.3 million beneficial reasons for the Sharks to take on Horton for the Leafs. Most ppl are so entirely dismissive of this reality of a business, it's mind-boggling.</div></div>
The Leafs just paid like 8 million dollars in signing bonuses to guys that won't play for the team next year (Zaitsev/Kadri/Brown). Dubas does not care about Horton, and MLSE won't even bother.

Opening Night Roster with Marner getting Matthews Money
Realistically:
Set Marner an opening day deadline on a fair 10x6ish deal. If he doesn't take it, you trade him. And make sure he knows he's gone if he doesn't take it.
Zero chance I let him sit out a day of this upcoming season.

This is just an insane line of thinking. If he won't sign for 9.25x6 in Toronto he won't suddenly lower his asking price by 2 million just because of what the Ducks have some of their guys making.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryan_meyer98</b></div><div>Leafs have just over 3 mil in cap space! They would have to move out some big contracts to keep Marner.
He will demand over $10 million a season.
I don’t see anyone willing to give up 4 1st round picks on an offer sheet.
Odds are his rights get traded for a player or prospect and a couple picks</div></div>
Horton to LTIR - 5.3
Player sent down - 700k
Current cap space - 3.77
Total = 9.77
If he gets anything more you move Ceci and find a replacement. Not overly difficult. Dubas has done more with less this offseason.

Why not Offersheet Marner
With these 10.5 offersheets, tell me why Marner would be interested in that money from another team versus 10 in Toronto? It just doesn't check out. 12+? Sure. But he won't sign 10.5 unless he's certain Toronto would match.
Marner has to sign the contract people.

Yikes. 7 million with term for Dzingel is terrible. If there was a situation in which Marner leaves, I think I'd rather test the waters on Ferland on a short term deal. Then re-sign Gardiner.
