Maybe don't post on here if you don't want to hear what other fans think? That's kind of the point of ACGM

EDM 2223 Route A - if skinner proves himself
More likely scenario:
- Smith has a down year - either way, can't be expected to play 60 games infront of a rookie goalie in 22/23 - forcing the signing of a 1A or starter and using up all remaining cap space
- Pulljujarvi has a breakout year on the best line in the league with McD and Hyman. His partly inflated stats set him up for a big raise (like Kassian, Nurse, etc)
- Holland refuses to dump Kassian and can't find a way to be creative with the salary cap. Puljujarvi is traded for very little as we can't afford him

next year lol
Holland is too stubborn to give in on a contract he signed like Kassian. What's gonna happen is Smith underperforms, making a starting/1A goalie a priority. We won't have money to keep Pulju after a breakout season with McDavid and Hyman and he's traded for an underwhelming return
I've learned to expect the worst from Ken Holland unfortunately

It's definitely not too late to salvage this offseason. I hope protecting Kassian means there's a market for him. Getting that contract off the books would open up some possibilities

Sounds like Barrie will get extended with a 5mill AAV
I didn't know it was possible for Holland to have such a bad offseason. We'll be fighting for a playoff spot this year. We should have been expecting an easy 2nd place finish in the Pacific

How do you see the 2022-23 cap situation? By my estimation this puts us right against the cap. Quite likely we can't resign Bear or Kassian gets unloaded somehow. Too much money tied up with Saad imo I can't see Holland cutting it so close
edit: Overall i think this would be a top 5 team as long as we get good goaltending. Great lineup

Saad I would like to have, but who knows if he will sign for 3M. That’s very low, as he is getting 6M in total this year. I see him getting around 5M honestly, and I wouldn’t mind being the team that pays that.</div></div>
Saad has just above half a point per game. Not worth that imo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>The problem with 'show-me' deals is that the requisite player needs to either have had a bad year / some form of glaring criticism or are asking for far too much money in free agency to the point no team is willing to accommodate them. The former being Barrie's case, the latter Hall's. There's no incentive for a player to just do teams a favour: NHL players are already notoriously underpaid, why exacerbate the problem?</div></div>
They aren't doing the team a favour, they're doing themselves a favour, that's the whole point. It's a new concept, but I think when Barrie signs for around $6mill in free agency, agents will take notice. Why not miss out on $2mill for a year to get paid an extra $2mill for the next 5 years? The logic works imo
This bottom 6 might be marginally better. I think the problem is that besides McLeod, it's a bunch of passengers. Coleman would definitely be a good addition. I think Holloway is a full time NHLer by new years. Add Coleman and Holloway to that bottom 6 and it's very solid
I figure Smith is back next season whether we like it or not

Yup I'm also thinking Coleman. You gotta think Holland uses McDavid's generational talent as leverage and fills at least one need with a bargain, 1-year deal (similar to the Barrie situation). I could see Saad signing under $3mill to boost his stats with McDavid, he's young enough to land a big contract after a career year. Holloway - McLeod - Coleman seems like a fast, strong, defensively capable 3rd line

I prefer to use contract comparables over insider guesses. I just can't see a guy taking a huge pay cut to stick around in Toronto when other guys got paid their value. I don't really care though, just my take

It's not some made up opinion. Hyman is turning into a better player than Gallagher. If Gallagher is worth $6.5m what do you honestly think Hyman is worth?

Particular Additions
So we don't upgrade defense or goaltending? Bouchard spends another year in the press box? Goodrow is a 4th liner @ $2.25mill. Besides adding Holloway into the lineup, the only upgrade here is Coleman. This would be a rather disappointing offseason
What I see happening is Nuge gets signed around $5.75 - 6.5m, Barrie is replaced by Bouchard and McLeod might even replace a bottom 6 signing like Goodrow. That's around $7mill saved right there that we can sign a 2nd pair LD with (or bring Klef back into the lineup). There may or may not be any money left after that, depends on whether Neal is dumped/bought out/retires/goes on LTIR. If so, we can bolster the bottom 6 or sign a starter

what should be done in the Oilers offseason
Besides resigning Barrie I like this. Grubauer contract seems a bit risky, maybe wait till next offseason for a shot at a slightly cheaper starter and I figure Nuge gets under $6.5mill if he stays although I do understand that a number of teams would pay him $7.5mill. If McLeod and Holloway can produce at even an average 3rd line rate this team could be extremely dangerous and those 2 are very solid defensively. Also think that we don't need Smith if we spend that much on a starter. Stalock is a serviceable, cheap backup, Grubauer probably plays 60 games

When does Lavoie make it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>Edmonton isn’t going to pay assets to move Neal. They’ve already lost a 3rd they are going to either bury him or buy him out. If they buy him out with a front loaded deal over 3 years it’s not bad.</div></div>
How does a front loaded buyout work and do you have an exact breakdown of the cap penalties each year? I would argue Holland wouldn't mind giving assets to unload him. If we buyout Neal this summer that's almost $2mill in penalties till 2025, the prime window for winning cups with McD and Drai. We would be adding extra mid round picks for salary retention, and 3rd party salary retention on deadline deals to compensate for Neal's buyout. Between now and 2025 we probably spend an extra 4 or 5 mid round picks on additional salary retention on TDL acquisitions. If we have a late 1st, and Cossa has already been selected, and Neal can't be put on LTIR next season, I'd be happy to dump him with that pick. I'd rather bury him than buy him out although I do see the concern with paying to move him, I just think it's the best decision in a bad situation
