Cant keep em all
It had been based on the earlier report that the Isles need to dump the Varlamov contract because they A) don't need him at all and B) need the cap space. But I realize, the goalie market has kind of changed since that old report that I'm thinking of. Leafs probably have to give actual value to get Varlamov back when for the other teams, he's going to be one of the best goalie options possible.

I want to comment first because I actually don't like this team. I think I may have given Domi and Aston-Reese too big of a haircut on their deals and I don't think this team is very good unless one of those goalies is ridiculous. I just think the options if they don't trade Muzzin don't look very good and this is with me dumping Mrazek, Engvall, Holl, AND Kerfoot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Pretty bad trade for Calgary</div></div>
the logic was they were disappointed with Dube last year and with the guys they need to re-sign, they need cheap NHL bodies, but you're probably right and its not enough. That was my biggest reach, I was trying to get a guy to replace Mikheyev who's gonna get the bag next month.

Overhaul v2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoachQ</b></div><div>That'll be a no from Chicago. Not going to give up assets in a rebuild. If you give up Mrazek and a first for a "C" level prospect then fine. See the trade for Fleury last year. Something like that.</div></div>
I think that's reasonable. The reason I had the picks coming back was because it didn't sound like moving Mrazek would cost a 1st, but Leafs don't have a 2nd and I was too lazy to make a trade to get one and then flip it with Mrazek to Chicago for nothing. Something more like Mrazek and the 1st for a future 3rd and like Jake Wise or something is probably more reasonable.

Overhaul v2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rvetter241908</b></div><div>yeah doubt the devils trade 2OA and Zacha for Nylander hahaha</div></div>
Zacha's been pushed out so he's a guy they'll likely trade and the reports suggest they really want a guy like Nylander (the NHL.com speculation piece suggested Pastrnak, Fiala, and Debrincat too). I could of course be wrong since this is just fun, but I bet they'd be willing to move Zacha to sweeten the pot a tiny bit to get that guy for them. The 3 million is just the QO number (I think) so someone can fact check me on that. I thought adding Duszak might help close the gap a little bit but I probably need to add more.
EDIT: this is my second attempt at this btw, last time I had the Leafs getting Wood without adding Duszak so I am inching closer haha. I also probably should have done something with Knies

Overhaul
I see the comments and I've definitely made some mistakes. Wood and Kubalik are messed up with the QO's. Definitely cheated on that Mangiapanne deal although Evolving Hockey has his contract projected at 5.1 so I didn't cheat that much on the number.
I'm gonna try again. Love the feedback. Always good to see how far off your valuations are :D

These are really hard because it's so hard to decide who gets protected. But there is absolutely no way Pierre Luc Dubois is left unprotected lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>But it’s you trading kerfoot.... and yes he’ll is. Also decent on the pk.</div></div>
do you know he's decent on the PK from all the minutes he plays there? Or how?
He averaged 16 seconds a night on the PK for the Leafs last year and 3 seconds the year before. He doesn't kill penalties. And I doubt it's some hidden skill that the Leafs are saving. It's also not like either of those teams have great penalty killers in front of him. I'm not going to sit here and tell you I know who is, and isn't a good penalty killer, but I think typically, if a guy doesn't kill penalties, he's probably not good at it...

From Feedback and Dont think they can shed salary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Buffalo, Ottawa and NJ are prime destinations for Johnsson and Kerfoot.
Buffalo will try to be active in free agency but lets face it with the reputation and culture there not many big UFA's will go. With Kahun gone i can see Johnsson being a good target as he is only owed 2.6 mill this season than 2.5 for 2 more years.
Kerfoot to me is good for teams needing defensively minded 3c. Ottawa could be interested as with Duclair gone they can use a guy like Kerfoot. Plus unlike Duclair asking for over 4mill, kerfoot is only owed 2.6 mill this year than 2.7 the next 2 seasons.
NJ can also be a destination as both would add depth to the team and help speed up the rebuild.</div></div>
If Kerfoot was a defensively minded 3C, the Leafs would be keeping him. He's not that. Edmonton is looking for a 3C and one who can jump up and play with McDavid or Draisaitl in the event of an injury makes a lot of sense I think. But again, if he was a defensively minded 3C, the Leafs would keep him and play him between Robertson and someone else on a 3rd line.
Buffalo taking Johnsson probably isn't crazy talk assuming they strike out in free agency but I don't get why they'd not qualify Kahun and then trade assets for a player who honestly isn't that much better. Johnsson is basically if they gave Kahun a shot in their top 6. And I think Jersey will have other options better and/or cheaper than Johnsson and Kerfoot. Lots of teams need to shed salary and will have guys available. The Ducks probably have to deal one of Rakell or Heinen, the Lightning still have to trade Johnson and Killorn, the Bruins may not be able to afford DeBrusk. All those guys are better than Johnsson and I think I take Kerfoot over Heinen but that's it. I don't think trading those 2 guys for picks is going to be that easy.

I believe I sent 1 year left Alex Chiasson to Minny. It was mostly a dump, I thought the Wild might take a chance on him.

I love this. Even as a Leaf fan I would love if this happened. We haven't had a good old fashioned build from free agency since the early 2000s Leafs haha.
You didn't even use Brannstrom!

Looking at it again, maybe you can waive Engvall and instead of signing Brassard and Jankowski sign Koivu or Turris? Or instead of signing Stetcher sign someone slightly better at 3.4 but that won't be enough for Brodie, Hamonic, or Tanev...

I hope Tanev goes for that little. Maybe its not the Flames who get Johnsson but something like that might be somewhat realistic if they can get Tanev at that number.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>I have to agree that the coyotes trade is way off. The LTIR isn't an issue, they wouldn't retain of the best player in this trade as he is young and worth his contract. You seem to be valuing the Leafs at or above their potential ceiling and undervaluing Dvorak. Maybe try making the package for OEL and also the higher pick would go to Arizona. Leafs needs aren't more offense, it's a RHD or 2 by the way</div></div>
I just don't think that trade is happening. And yes thank you, I know what the Leafs need lol.
I feel like we're somewhat complacent with that Leaf top 6 because its deadly. They need a good 2-way 3rd line center. I probably needed to put at least a 2nd or a conditional 1st in that deal for it to make more sense but the Coyotes are trying to cut cash and salary otherwise, why even consider trading their superstar and captain?

He’s a 3rd line center that is great at face offs and in the d zone. He’s not worth kerfoot and a first. That’s crazy
FYI he drives me nuts so who knows maybe I undervalue him.</div></div>
Barkley Goodrow and Blake Coleman both got firsts. Sometimes you have to overpay. I think its a strategic overpay to get a player you really need and that's a matchup center who can move up and down your lineup, kill penalties, and be what you need him to be. I think the Leafs need a really good 2-way 3rd line center with some grit who can kill penalties and there aren't a lot of better matches than Jenner.

Yotes need the cash and I took Hossa. It's probably not enough but I thought with Dermott in there who's a fringe top 4 guy already and only getting better it was close. I had Schmaltz in there before but that probably isnt enough either. It probably needs to be a higher pick from the Leafs but I don't think its crazy to suggest the Coyotes save that kind of money.
