He'll be traded either way and honestly the Cap works better without spending 2.5AAV on a 4c but his last name is Johnson which is important for these purposes and CHI is rebuilding so its not like the actual roster matters much. Its mostly the 'Colorado taking on players for free' more or less after the RyJo move

I have a hard time imagining San Jose doing 4m in dead cap for *seven* years. That extends well beyond our rebuild timeline. Not saying its impossible, but retaining millions on Karlsson is already looking like a hard sell and that's only 4 years.</div></div>
They still have 4 years of rebuilding left and by then the cap will go up. Like I fully get that its a massive level of retention but I don't think it matters as much as people think it will because if SJ is capped out at any point in the next 5 years then they likely did something very stupid.

2 1sts, a 25 year old top 4 dmen, Newhook who is another 1st and a top goaltending prospect for a 29 year old who's prime wont last until the rebuild is done.
Its absolutely a lot of retention but thats a legit return.

Avs really don't have the cap space for any player at that much and wing is the least important need for them atm. Like look at the crazy amount of cap commitment in the least important spot

- Once VAN locked in Miller to term any path that had them moving a win now player for futures became a lot less likely. Imo its far more likely they keep him and he walks for nothing than they trade him given where they are at (although the most likely is that they just give him a huge contract like everyone else).
- Also rentals don't get that type of return, and retention on rentals doesn't have any effect on the value, its simply a tool to make the trade compliant.
- Finally COL wouldn't have interest in trading a long term asset for a player they couldn't keep long term. If they were able to afford the next deal Bo gets then Kadri would still be on the team and all of this would be irrelevant. I could see a 1st + a smaller prospect as a pure rental if Van REALLY ****s the bed but again for the reasons above I don't think that situation is likely

Horvat Hoglander Year 1
A 1 year rental and a winger coming off of a down year where he is struggling for ice time isn't going to get you that return.
Col doesn't need wingers and they can't resign Horvat so at most here that would be a 1st and a mid level prospect at the TDL..... however
Van ALSO isn't in a position to move Bo because (ignoring that he is their C) their other moves put them on a track to win now, so even if they can't sign him they still can't really trade him as that likely costs them the season.
I think moving out players for futures became a lot less of an option after all the signings this offseason. If you are deadset on moving out Bo then there are other better teams to send him to

The fact that you need you entire bottom 6 and bottom pair to be at a replacement level salary just to fit in Horvat should tell you everything you need to know about why this isn't realistic.
If the Avs were in a position to pay a center 8m AAV (which Horvat is NOT worth btw) then Kadri would be on the team now.
This is just trying so so hard to force something that isn't there that it obliterates a team to make it happen

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Yeah COL isn’t doing that package for Girard straight up.</div></div>
I will say it is a creative deal and they are very rare on here and while I agree I think its at least thoughtful and pretty close. Poolparty is worth about a 2nd tops (per reports) and Kaut for a 4th is fair. So that gets down to Broberg for Girard which is still pretty largely one sided. I think it targets a lot of areas for both teams well however it doesn't quite do it enough. This is really just one of those times that highlights how hard it is to make trades.

Despite what fans are saying the EDM deal is pretty clever. Depends on how you feel about Broberg and opportunity cost and cap space is a small issue for EDM atm but its one of the more creative and intelligent posts on here.
Take out LOC of the Chi deal, no reason to have him in there. Also I don't think Kane gets that much but that is nit picking.
The Det deal is pretty historically accurate for that level of retention

Byfield trade
Girard makes more sense for both sides imo should LA go down this route.
Ultimately though I think Byfield isn't far enough into his development for Col for this to make sense for them and I don't think LA fans will be willing to give up on the futures dream they've been preached too for year and accept how much of a win now direction the team has went in
No from both sides.

What would you want - Rangers and Avs Fans
MTL doesn't have anything that would really make sense to get Girard. He makes all the sense for MTL but nothing they have fits what COL needs.
The NYR package though are 2 players they are actually trying to move. So they would be possible to get for futures if you really believed in them but I doublt MTL would be looking to move anything too much of value there as that is what they are trying to do atm.

Garland isn't getting more than Bjork who is a far far better player. If Van could have gotten anything in the world for him they would have moved him by now.
Also COL doesnt need wingers nor do they want to bring on his cap hit.

overall i think this could be a solid plan, although i think that a couple more guys (nutivaara, hill if they can get a goalie who can play games, maybe lorentz) might be moved too</div></div>
His biggest problem will be the nutjob owner who wants to 'win now'. This is such an impossible market to move out cap space there is no way it would be worth the cost. Plus even if he did unless there is something to use it on right away then its kind of moot.
Its just really difficult because what the owner wants to do will likely be impossible.

Tor fans need to give up the dream that anyone is giving up anything for Kerf. Half the league is trying DESPERATELY to move out cap space and the first group of players that teams cut are middle 6 forwards.
The guy has no value because the market is just insane.
