I think u could arguable get Mittlestadt on a Trocheck like deal but yea I just get a feeling Colton might be moved to bring in a cheaper 3c.

jost what do you think you're doing??
Landy really handcuffs this team but what else can you do if he comes back really.

Unless I'm missing something, you don't have a 3RD next season unless you are able to resign Walker, which is a stretch as well if Landeskog is back. Why would Helleson not be able to make the Avs as a 6-7 RHD on an ELC?</div></div>
Replied to the first part above.
For Helleson, I don’t see the fit. Avs have preferred to put vets who are able to play special teams on their bottom pairing. If Helleson had already established himself in the NHL, fit would be closer. But in that case, you probably wouldn’t be trying to trade him.
If they wanted to go with unproven youth, I would think Malinski would be higher up on the depth chart and has been a good system fit for the Avs during his call ups (23 games this season).
More creative than most ACGMs here, but I don’t quite see him working. Helleson could probably be a good change of scenery candidate in a year (becomes waiver eligible in 25-26), but I’d imagine you’d have to add considerably in a Colton trade.

Call it a cap casualty, but the return is comparable to a cap dump. Semantics here, but my point is that I think Colton would probably get more value on market than Helleson if the Avs chose to trade him.
Nevertheless, I’d focus more on the Helleson fit. I don’t see it.

If the Avs do decide to trade Colton, it's likely to be for picks; a young D won't make it onto the Avs roster at this point.

If Helleson can’t make the Duck’s roster, why would he have an easier time in Colorado? Not sure I’m following the logic of that trade.
Also, not sure I agree with Colton as a cap dump.

Nothing against Wood but I would think just unloading the contract would be welcome even if they don't really want Krebs. Would free up the space to re-sign Duhaime and another bottom-six guy.

I'll just make two points while also conceding that's it's unlikely this becomes a success. One is Drouin, who has bought in and added an element to his game that has never been there. Two is Buffalo's system/culture, in which it's a lot easier and more comfortable to coast.
Again, I'm not saying it will work. But Krebs is a guy that was the engine of his team in the WHL. He has some ability, and it's worth the flyer. He'll be easy to trade if needed, so it's not a big risk.

I don't disagree, but it's a pretty easy fix if he doesn't work out. Looking for a 4C at the tdl is not a bad place to be.
On the other hand, if he buys into Bednar's system and starts to click a little bit, then maybe the team has found a third liner for the future. Worth a shot imo, as it's really cap space and the third that are the main return.

ya i think hes going to enter the season at 8th or 9th on the depth chart, habs maybe squeeze a 3rd if the timing is perfect but i dont see them being too worried about the return, given he was a waiver claim any pick up is a solid considering.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Absolutely it's more than likely he goes at something like that (I think MacK is probably going to be a kind of 'internal cap' for the next few seasons so I don't see anyone getting more than him, even Makar when he's due) but there is also the chance he looks at it (and if the GM has any sense he'll try to steer it in the direction of the fact of his 9 mil deal vs MacK's 6 mil deal) and says he got paid well on his first deal and takes a slightly lower one to help keep the Avs competitive. I'm not sure what kind of guy Mikko is on that kind of thing but some guys (and it only really ever seems to happen in hockey) will actually do that once they've banked money as they're about winning.</div></div>
The FO said they basically pushed over a signed contract to Mac and told him to fill in the amount. He could have received a lot more. See leafs Mac said he was pushed to be the highest paid player (without elaborating) and chose to be just 100k more than macdavids current contract. I don’t think Makar will ask to break the bank and will probably take a discount like he did on his last contract. Weather that’s 12.5 instead of 13 or 13 instead of 15 we will probably never know.
Rants seems to be of the same mind. There will probably be a hometown discount but it could be 11m instead of 11.5 or 13 instead of 14m. They both know Mac took a discount to keep the team together and I would be surprised if they didn’t follow suit.

How many teams were looking for a tough, pk right shot defense man with offensive upside at the trade deadline? It’s one of the hardest positions to fill. Walker is good but part of his value is that he can complement a big bruising LD which are inherently cheaper than their RD counterparts. Walker may get 5m but Manson is probably worth 5.5m+ given the lack of similar players.

Isn't it basically impossible for the cap to reach $100M in two years due to the limit on the maximum percentage it can rise? Isn't that why it's only going up $4M+ next season and then $5M+ the following season? I guess they could amend the CBA or come up with a new one before the old one expires but I am under the apprehension that under the current CBA, they can't just make that jump even if HRR is in line with such a raise.

The Best Avs ACGM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I think the team needs Walker more than you do. If Kovacevic can be Manson lite, then I think that's enough. Basically it comes down to if Manson + Malinski > Kovacevic + Walker. Close call but I like the latter, and especially if Walker comes on a good deal.
Edit: Fair point about 3C. There are other options, one of which could be Trenin. Maybe even Kovalenko, although it's tough to say considering he hasn't played a single game yet.</div></div>
For me it's very much in the mix as to who is best to keep and who isn't. I have my favourites to keep, let go or trade but even then I can see the arguments for and against others. It's something of a headache but arguably a nice one to have for CMac & Joe. There's arguments to be made for keeping, trading or letting go any of a number of guys. I think playoff performance will be a key (and possibly determining) factor for both the various individuals and the team as much as potential returns in trades and potential internal replacements. My thinking is Manson & Kovacevic btw, a mix of the two options you give (with Malinski rotating in from the scratches). Personally if it weren't for the age factor I'd probably move Girard to keep Walker even though Walker is a righty as he can play left D as well. Girard also probably gives the best return in a trade for re-stocking. A lot of factors to consider.

The Best Avs ACGM
You've disappointed me in that Monahan wasn't re-signed by MTL and traded to the Avs for their first round pick in 2026.
Not sure whether MTL would have interest in Colton but Kovacevic is definitely a guy the Avs should be looking at imo but I'd probably pass on the Manson for Laughton deal from the Avs PoV and keep Manson if possible and maybe give Trenin a shot at the 3C job (I like Walker but I'd rather keep Manson's nastiness and physicality over 'more of the same' in Walker and not sure JK has the nastiness of JM). Trenin hasn't really actually played that much at C though even if listed as one (or at least he hasn't taken many face offs which to me means he hasn't played C much) but then the same was true for Colton prior to this year. Yakov has definitely been the most impressive of the 'deadline' additions for me so far, and has a rep for taking other young Russians under his wing and might just have Kovalenko actually on his wing too.

2024 offseason - just need to find 1m in cap room
Since you're a reasonable poster I'll ask you: what are the comps for Mitts? I feel like some people are pulling numbers out of thin air (or using rumors from when he was with Buffalo as a basis for their arguments) for his deal but, IMO, there are some pretty clear comparables (D Strome and Zacha are pretty analogous to Mitts age, production ) and they don't make $6M. I guess he could point to JTC whom he is clearly better than but if they give him the 6th year, he's making more in total compensation. I can see him wanting a bit more with the cap going up but I don't think $5.25-5.75M is at all out of line with his comps but I'm curious if you have other comparable players in mind when you arrived at $6M.
