The return should be happiness for ridding themselves of a bad contract on a mediocre player.
Keep your sights on Meier.

Siegenthaler is one of the best defensive dmen around. We have plenty of offensive dmen, and have Luke arriving in a couple of months.

Timo and Karel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MellowK</b></div><div>I don't see Muk or Holtz mentioned at all. Just that Luke Hughes is "a definite Grade-A." (no sh*t)
He mentions Brennan Othmann as a Grade-B, who is an under performing 20 year old in the OHL with 1st round pedigree. And if that's the case, you guys can go ahead and swap Holtz for Stillman.
But I don't think how the "Grade-A" or "Grade-B" tags are evaluated in the article are based on the source, I think they're just based on how Peng evaluates them. And they're done rather poorly, like as if they were done by somebody who just reports on the Sharks.</div></div>
Yeah, it's not in the article itself, but look down in the article's comments section where the author Peng responds to direct questions.

Hi Sheng, would you view Nemic as an A-prospect? I would want Hughes more than Nemic but given who Luke’s brother is on that team I don’t think they’re going to give him up. https://sanjosehockeynow.com/san-jose-sharks-timo-meier-trade-return/

I asked an NHL source about where Nemec falls, he’s an A-B tweener right now

He’s a B, along with Holtz. FWIW I actually asked three different NHL sources, about my Grade-A and B evaluations

Any GM offering a 1st for Josh Anderson should be fired ASAP, he got paid $5,500,000 for putting up one season of 47 points from Columbus. he's at least $1,000,000 overpaid and basically a 20-30 point winger.

Luke playing 2nd line minutes will be brutal...he needs to be sheltered until his defensive game catches somewhat up to the point he's not a net negative....that's too much on the shoulders of three rookies on D.

You're right it's not even close. Boeser is the better player.</div></div>
How silly of me to forget that points, height, weight, and age are all that make a hockey player.

Devils wouldn't deal Mercer for Konecny one for one, let alone add to the trade.
Easy decline.
I could see them moving Holtz as the main piece for Konecny however.

Meier comps to NJD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>i’m not sayin either of these are the actual value, but they represent a comparison to the two similar players traded last year.
and the step down from Tkatchuk to Meier is less than the step from Huberdeau and Weegar to Bratt and Marino. wouldn’t you agree?</div></div>
Problem is that Weegar and Huberdeau are older than Tkachuk and were on expiring deals, while Bratt and Marino are both younger than Meier and have more team control. That was a calculated overpay by FLR to get younger and save money and get something out of Weegar, while here there's no benefit for NJ to do this trade.
Also, Meier will probably get less than DeBrincat if he's moved in a similar move but that's a much better comp than this "Tkachuk comp" that you came up with.

Does this get it done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MellowK</b></div><div>You kinda just echoed what I said... If Holtz is struggling so bad, then why are Sharks fans still so hung up on him? The only reason Sharks fans view every other prospect not named Holtz, Nemec and Hughes as "B and C level" is because they're comparing them to Holtz, not other team's prospects.</div></div>
That last statement is spot on. To everybody else our only “A” prospects are Holtz, Hughes and Nemec when in reality those are just our A+ prospects. We have Casey and Muk who I’d say are A prospects and guys like Gritsyuk and Foote who are actually B type prospects

Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Debrincat is a horrible comparison. Timo drives play on his line better than Cat. Chicago sold off their first rounder thinking they were competitive, so they needed to trade Cat to regain their losses. Sharks by no means need to trade Timo and should be competitive at least halfway through an extension, therefore, any trade they make that includes him they should be coming out with a bigger return. Also, the Debrincat trade was awful to begin with for Chicago. They should have been able to get more for him, but they got desperate to get a top ten pick. Also a trade nearing/at the deadline costs more since the team getting the player has a good idea already of where in the standings so there's less risk in giving up (primarily picks) that may age poorly for the buyers.</div></div>
Excuse me let me get this straight. Teams at the deadline are more likely to move picks bc they have a better range of where those picks might end up than right before the draft when they know exactly where those picks are??????

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>It's not $6 million in bad cap. With retention above it's $5.5m and he probably would get ~$4.5m as a free agent for a 1 year contract so it's about $1million of bad cap for half season which you can flip for about 2nd round pick and it costs the basically nothing. You can say that teams won't do it, but your wrong and there'd be a bidding war.</div></div>
Now that's some serious copium.
