February 2025 World Cup Team Canada

Hyman makes it because of McDavid. Batherson was just for fun because he's buddies with Marchy and Sid. If Batherson gets back to his pre-injury form, he'd make it anyway.

Don't disagree - this was more to show how much flexibility they will have during their prime years. Not many contending teams can just add $9M without having to do cap gymnastics.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensarmy1234321</b></div><div>I didnt like the hamonic signing personally. we can easily have a 6 and 7th Defense of JBD lassi thomson manitpola kleven guenette I think it just a waste of money if we can keep joseph or kubalik its very good for our forward depth but now hamonic sigining blocks the foward depth. I see what u mean with Greig starting in the AHL just want him here playing at least 60 games this year</div></div>
It's not like Hamonic is making a ton of money. He only counts ~200k more against the cap than the others you mentioned, so it's not really blocking the addition of more forward depth. I think Hamonic brought a lot to the team that people don't appreciate. He throws his body in front of every shot like no other D on the team. Besides Sanderson, this team really lacks PK specialists too so that's a roll he can and will fill. And being a veteran leader in the room on a D core where everyone is 25 and under cannot be ignored. Fans don't like him because he was playing too high in the lineup last year, but you cannot tell me he's not fit for the third pair. In the worst case scenario where he is clearly a liability, they can burry him in the minors where he won't count against the cap (like they did with MDZ), so there is absolutely zero risk with this deal. Having depth on D is so important and sens fans should know that more than anyone

They didn't sign Hamonic for him to play in Belleville. He's fine on the third pair and we'll need him for the PK. Greig will most likely play most of the year in Ottawa, but he may not start on the roster if no one else is moved. They'll try to put Joseph in a good spot playing with 2 good top 9 forwards, and probably won't want Greig playing 4LW. Once they get into a few games into the season, there won't ever be a point where there isn't at least one forward injured. He'll get his time

My recommended lines and special teams if Pinto is not signed
No way Sanderson is off the peeper. He's their best option as a D man. I agree with PP1 but I have Sanderson over Chabot and then Chabot and Chych on PP2. Chych played on the PP with 2 defencemen his whole time in AZ, including his best season, so it won't be a new concept for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>You didn't read the 2nd part of what I said but I'll give you a little bit of wiggle room bc of your rage
Norris hasn't played over 70 games, has only had 1 60 games campaign and played 8 this past year, there's def. recency bias here in calling his contract an overpayment considering what you could get with that 8 mill... ADB, Stuzle, Thompson, Tkachuk, Suzuki all have similar contracts and are all so much better than Norris'...
Tarasenko also finds himself under the injury bug curse but is also 31... But he doesn't have that grit to him either than say a Max Domi, who's getting paid 3 mill or Tyler Bertuzzi, who's getting paid only .5 mill more. Though I do like that it's only a 1 year deal.
Korpisalo screams Jack Campbell 2.0. You've got a career backup who finally gets his stroke of luck by playing in front of a good defence when he gets the starting job but starts to falter near the end of his short crusade... But in FA, he signs with a team with lacklustre defence and who have a habit of overpaying goalies... Sound familiar?
Kubalik is average... reminds me of a less defensive Alex Kerfoot... If anything league average players shouldn't be getting paid 2.5 mill
While the Chychrun is a good one... it 1 doesn't out weigh the other bad contracts and 2 isn't 2-2.5 mill better... He also hasn't played 70 games in his career, isn't a number 1 defensemen and hasn't produced in the playoffs. He isn't near Morgan Rielly who's making 7.5 and is being called overpaid.</div></div>
Norris did not miss a game his rookie year (it was a shortened season) and then he missed the last season and a bit because of a shoulder injury. But he decided to get surgery so that won't be an issue anymore. People forget he was on pace for 44 goals and our best defensive forward at the same time. How much less do you want a guy like that making?
The sens don't need grit like the leafs do. Their captain lead the league in fighting majors and they had 3 guys over 100 pims whereas the leafs top guy besides bunting barely broke 50. I think we're covered in that department - we'll take the guy that had 82 points in 75 games a year ago.
With Korpisalo - last I checked columbus wasn't that good last year? idk maybe I'm wrong
How does Kubalik remind you of kerfoot at all? They are completely different players. Kubalik has more goals that Kerfoot in half the games played. Kubalik has scored 30, Kerfoot has never even broke 20? weird comparison. I'll pay guys 2.5 all day if they put up 20. You can do that when your top guys aren't greedy.
You say Chychrun isn't a number 1 defenceman but he sure produces like one. But that's okay, even if he's not, the good thing is Ottawa still has 2 other D who are even better. Keep saying Ottawa has lackluster defence though.

The rebuild definitely took longer than expected that's for sure but it was certainly done right and most sens fans are confident they have a core in place that can become a contender for the years to come, unlike a team like Detroit who's team is built through older free agents

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CCM46</b></div><div>Sens still have plenty of holes defensively. 3.29 GAA last year and not a whole lot has been done to change your defensive side of the puck because playing young guys. In the DeBrincat trade you got Kubalik in return who plays no defense (sure he may score 25 goals but if he is on the ice for 30+ against is that really worth). Korpisalo is not a good goalie and giving him 4mil per. Giroux is getting older.
Florida had injuries up until the last 10 games of the season. Not saying injury bug won't hit again, but doubt its as it was last year where like 6 of their top guys were out at once.
Tampa has Vasey which I still think is one of the top 3 goalies in the league and their offense still very good in the top 6 and their top 4 DMen still above average.
Again not saying Ottawa doesn't make playoffs just not as 2 seed looking at 3 or WC1 imo</div></div>
If we're talking injury bugs, then no one was worse than Ottawa. Norris was out the entire season, Batherson played the whole season hurt, Chabot and Zub missed big parts of the season, oh and they used SEVEN goalies. Defensively, they're adding a healthy Norris who is a very good two-way centre, a full season of Chychrun, and Korpisalo who many would say is in fact a good goalie or at the very least, can't be worse than the goalie performances we got last year. I'll take Ottawa's top 6 and top 4 D coming into next season over Florida or Tampa any day

what hole do you see with the sens? Florida and tampa also has holes. Florida was behind ottawa in the standings last year until like 10 games left in the season and they havent done much to improve. Tampa's depth also took a big hit. Ottawa is moving in the right direction on the other hand
