<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MelonVK</b></div><div>I don't think anyone assumes Bergeron will stay this good forever. But I will say he's become an even better goal scorer now than he was a few years ago, and Marchand wasn't even elite a handful of years ago - so he's for sure a late bloomer. Krejci is becoming one of the more underrated players in hockey as he's still playing a super solid two-way game, and has had nothing and nobody on his wings for a lot of his career.

Of course they'll decline. I think Studnicka is the obvious hopeful, to go from 3C this year, 2C the next and hopefully be able to play top line minutes at some point. Bergeron would have to decline a lot for Coyle to play above him in the heirarchy, but regardless, both of Bergeron's and Krejci's contrats are up in one and two years respectively. There's no financial tie if they're declining, and it's not impossible to imagine for example Barkov there in two years if no one steps up and Bergy falls off.

But while I agree with a lot of the descriptive; there's no prescription presented. What do you suggest they do about it?
Because this is how it goes for teams, right? They had a small retool 5 years back, and that extended their competative window, but it will shut at some point - it does for every team. But that's okay, that's the nature of the sport with the draft system etc.

I don't think anyone's in denial about Boston's aging situation, but 1) that decline hasn't really kicked in and 2) what do they do about it? trade the aging guys? makes little sense for one of the best and most competative teams in the league.</div></div>

I didn't offer a prescription as you put it (I love that use of language, I'm going to use it in the future) as I don't have one.

I just wondered if others were falling into the same mental trap as me which is focussing on improving in these other areas because it's just assumed/taken for granted that they have Bergeron, Krejci and Rask. But they're way older than the vast majority of NHL players are are particularly good. I guess I had a bit of a wake up call and wondered if others have seen it too
