I dont think you can drop niemala or cowan because the next prospect (except minten) is too far a drop, and wouldn;t interest PHI. (Theres a chasm between minten, cowan and niemala to the other prospects).
And dumping samsonov right now (and saving at least 2.4mil against the cap) is probably costing a 3rd and a bit more, a 5th? so in that respect its a very late in the round 1st and 2 very good prospects for long term sanheim, a 3rd and 5th, which doesn;t sound like a massive overpayment</div></div>
I agree with the Leaf prospects dropping off quick but I don't think you need to add anything for taking Samsonov. Almost every team acquiring Sanheim is gonna need to send money back & in this case Philly still saves actual dollars (& cap space) but with no long term implications.

Well Byfield is who I’d target & I added Ardvidsson because the kings would need to add money & he’s expiring. Thought about adding Robertson but I think Marner does have big value & Leafs need to hold out for it.

Maybe but then you really need your stars to carry you…I guess it could be Bunting & Murray out if Samsonovs deals about right & you think he & Woll would work.
But seems unlikely to me, without a big cap jump

I think the Sabres makes sense but I don’t know if they can do the contract. So they can be any team it’s just rough return.
Yes, Leafs either trade him at draft or after they qualify him.
The only way I can see keeping Meier would be if there’s a massive cap increase or trading Willy (cause I doubt Brodie is going anywhere)

Well he's not the 2c, he's a 2c. Tavares can still play there against tough opponents & take important faceoffs. So Hayton can grow into the role slowly (give Tavares nights/time off).

No. NJ is only retaining on PK, 4.5m.

No. NJ & SEA swap PK & Giordano each retaining 50% then make deals with Leafs. It’s so SEA can retain extra on PK

I'll give it a shot, 1st & Amirov for Severson, Holl & Abramov for PK & 3rd for taking Ritchie who needs to go to make $$$ work. I did think of making the 3rd a 2nd, & would be fine with it. But I am curious to the general value of PK because his contract is a tough fit for majority of contenders even with 50% retained.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>You traded a 70-point defenceman for a backup goalie? Not sure that's the move that the Leafs are going to want to make.
That's probably more money and term then I would want to give to Savard. It would be better to keep our current top four in tact if that's the best option. I like the Saad signing and would love him if he only cost that much. Would also love to see the Leafs acquire Jarnkrok from Seattle, I've had him as a target for a bit (assumed they would take him).</div></div>
Yeah I don’t wanna trade Rielly but I don’t see how we can keep him going forward. As for the deal Leafs do probably need a pick or prospect but Georgiev might be in demand.
Saad deal was a guess based on some of the recent extensions & Savard is a year older then Brodie when Leafs signed him so i guessed same term but a bit less.

Cause if he can catch a break health wise there’s good potential & value (also just LTIR if he can’t, Leafs can afford it). So how much do you think would be fair for two years? Trying to lock in some value for 22-23

Rather than paying to trade Johnson
Well Palat & Johnson get slightly easier to trade as no trade becomes 20 team no trades. But yeah Tampa might have to get creative because is if I'm Seattle I'm not taking any of the 3 (including Gourde) without getting something else from Tampa. Just cause they need to shed salary & it's a chance to get more.

Rielly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OutCold13</b></div><div>I get your angle/leverage on the Kerfoot/Dumba trade but if Wild can't get what they want for Dumba then they shouldn't trade him. Trades in the NHL are like a game of chicken a lot of times and if you are a flincher then you will never get full value offers.</div></div>
I'm definitley not saying this is the best Minny could do but if it's lose him for nothing or for Kerfoot who you can protect makes some sense (if you think Kerfoot has value). And I don't know how many other teams have a spot open to protect him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Also, I find it amusing that you think that two seasons of Dumba is only worth Kerfoot, but that one season of Rielly is worth a 1st and an A prospect.</div></div>
Well Leafs don't have to move Rielly at all, let alone before the expansion draft, so he has value. Admittedly might be to much but I don't know the Rangers prospects at all, so I picked the one I know the name of.
I only chose the Rangers cause they could use some help on D & have the ability to protect one (so yeah maybe the should call up Minny then).

1 for 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ansabch12</b></div><div>While that's all true, he is also our next captain. On his next big contract he'll make less than Marner, he plays all facets of the games not just regular season point totals. He can play on a shutdown line, as well as the net front presence on the powerplay that Marner outright refuses to do or try. On top of all of that he's a locker room guy, you can't trade away a guy like him for anything less than Eichel, I dont care how many points Marner scores in the regular season it makes no difference when he's an outright no show in the playoffs, and the Flames already have a guy exactly like that in Johnny Gaudreau.
The notoriety for his shenanigans only overshadows his overall play because he has that kind of reputation, you'll remember a bad hit he made over a 6 game pt streak he had for example, but we as Flames fans can look past all that and see how special and rare a player he is. So no it isn't happening in this or any other lifetime, Flames have no interest in Mitch Marner.</div></div>
Yup which is why this makes sense for the Leafs but no interest...you mean in this deal right? Cause Marner is easily better then the rest of Flames forwards.
Also Eichel on the Flames would be good but you should be aiming to add Eichel to Tkachuk, not for Tkachuk.

If you're trading for Severson, and paying a high price for him, then presumably you're going to protect him, thus four defensemen and so four forwards -- The Big Four. Bennett and Engvall would then be your two qualifying forwards.</div></div>
Engvall yes but Bennett's not under contract for next season, he's RFA, so if I remember correctly, Leafs would need another forward under contract to leave exposed to meet the draft requirements.
